Ancient Nutrition Supplements Review

With ALL the buzz going around about both collagen and the ketogenic diet, this brand came to me at the perfect time. While I don’t love raving about DIETS (as that word can often mean deprivation) I am a big time advocate for each person to find an approach to eating that is sustainable and ultimately works in sync with your body’s unique needs and goals.

Ever since starting Crossfit workouts back in 2015, I’ve found that supplementing once a day with a protein shake helps me to recover, put on lean muscle mass and get rid of excess fat. Dream scenario right? Well, since many protein powders are high processed and contain all sorts of additives, it’s not as easy as walking into any sports nutrition store and picking up a canister of protein. Not all proteins are created equal.

My Focus on Protein & Collagen

Collagen is a focus of mine in my diet because it’s the most abundant protein in your body; vital for gut health, recovery and the strength of your hair + skin + nails. There are so many benefits that cover your bases, regardless of what your goals are. Who doesn’t want to recover better and have better hair? Wew, yes please.

I got to try these three products and they are each very different from one another, despite seeming interchangeable. I see the keto protein (11g fat, 2g carbs, 13g protein) as more of a meal replacement, as it’s pretty dense and filling with the fat content in addition to the protein content. The flavor took a little bit of getting used to; I prefer it mixed with vanilla hemp milk (or any other plant based milk you like) versus just water.

The bone broth collagen (1g fat, 2g carbs, 13g protein) to me is more of an addition to a shake I’m making or a bulletproof coffee I’m blending. It’s unique in that the collagen is sources from multiple foods like chicken, beef, turkey and eggshell. It provides the restorative power of collagen, but not the added fuel from the fat.

Lastly, the bone broth protein (1g fat, 2g carbs, 20g protein) is more protein dense with protein per serving compared to the bone broth collagen. I look to this product when I haven’t reached by protein goal for the day.

Eating Your Bodyweight in Protein Grams

I loosely follow a protein-focused way of eating. Through lots of experimentation and limiting certain foods, I’ve found this works well for my lifestyle and goals. The bone broth protein really comes in handy when I need more calories from protein. The flavor is pleasant when mixed with water; but like the keto protein I also prefer it mixed with a plant based milk.

I like that each of these products is suitable for different needs on different days. The mind being Ancient Nutrition, Dr. Josh Axe, is putting out super admirable content that’s helping educate the world on hot topics and clearing up misconceptions. What he’s doing is having a big impact on how people fuel themselves and that shows in his products. I’m happy to have these in my routine and I’d encourage you to try them if you’re looking for different protein supplementation options.
