Mizuno Wave Catalyst Running Shoe:

“The new women’s Wave Catalyst is a high performance running shoe with lightweight support, making it ideal for high-speed training. Light yet flexible, its perfectly sculpted fit hugs your foot while the articulated Fan Wave delivers fast, responsive cushioning.

High Speed Support

Striking the perfect balance between comfort and support, the Wave Catalyst is a support running shoe you can count on for fast, stable run. A true performer, Wave Catalyst keeps you going farther, faster.

  • Totally new Performance Support experience provides just the right amount of support without compromising its performance
  • The articulated Pebax Fan Wave provides smoother landing and heel strike transition
  • The 10mm drop and X10 midfoot landing area is ideal for heel and midfoot runners
  • Sculpted lateral forefoot gives runners a more stable platform for better feel
  • Blown rubber forefoot optimizes pressure distribution, durability and cushioning.”

Mizuno Wave Catalyst Running Shoe Review

Though I’m an avid runner, I have never regularly run in Mizuno running shoes. I do have prior experience with this brand, though–as I wore them my entire career as a collegiate volleyball player. Mizuno volleyball shoes are unparalleled. Naturally, I had high expectations for these running shoes.

They did not disappoint! By looking at the shoe at first, I was guessing that the drop would be a little much for my preference, as I typically go for zero drop running shoes (I like to feel the ground a little bit under my foot). However, they feel really good on.

I’m pretty apprehensive about trying a completely new running shoe, because so many pairs just completely screw up my natural gait–theres nothing worse than that. I really like the feel that this pair provides, though. Mizuno has struck a nice balance of keeping this shoe low profile, yet substantial enough to provide just enough cushion for significant mileage.

It doesn’t feel as thick on the bottom as it looks. I was very impressed by how much I enjoyed the stable and lightweight feeling. You can definitely tell that a lot of thought + trial + error + testing went into creating these Wave Catalysts. They are pretty sublime.

It certainly doesn’t hurt that the colors are totally rad. The electric pink + blue combination is fun & just my style. I plan to wear them both during runs and in my cross-training (lifting + olympic lifting type workouts).
