Welcome to this post: Beet & Berry Smoothie Recipe.

This smoothie is awesomely hearty and perfect before a run or workout. A fellow instagrammer shared with me that to ultra-marathoners, beet juice is “nature’s gatorade.” How cool is that!? So I thought, add some delicious mixed frozen berries (blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries) and voila!

What makes this smoothie special is its antioxidant & trace mineral content. Berries are known for their natural antioxidant capacity, while beets (in the root vegetable family contain nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a powerhouse ingredients for active folks & athletes alike. This plant compound ramps up blood flow in the body; thus promoting circulation, increased performance and oxygen delivery to muscles. In addition, the nitric oxide in beets helps enhance recovery from strenuous workouts.

In addition to the unique characteristic of berries & beets, this smoothie is easy to digest. Thus, it’s not energy expensive for your body for assimilate & utilize the carbohydrates found in this smoothie. Also, it’s inexpensive to make! Most grocery stores will have all of the ingredients to make.

Smoothie Ingredients

*exact measurements are not important

-3 or 4 beets chopped up (use the greens too)

-1 handful of frozen mixed berries (fresh are better if you have them, but frozen adds a nice chill to the smoothie, so no ice is needed)

-Splash of almond milk (coconut, cashew or hemp works, too)

-Splash of water

There you have some “natural gatorade”! Enjoy! (doesn’t hurt that it has a pretty color to it, also!)
