Discount Code + Ambassadorship for Palm Beach Athletic Wear

i tend to live like i won’t be around tomorrow. i overdo things. i exhaust myself. but it’s me.

and while thinking about the end of the road, i think about the beginning. my beginning was in a town called Jupiter, Florida. Years after living there and being in the thick of creating content + blogging, i learned about Kristen of Palm Beach Athletic Wear & Yoga and all of her awesomeness. she’s a toooootal babe + badass woman.

this outfit if from her shop! they’re 3 pieces from JIVA Active : Aspen Flex Capri, Jiva Scoop Tank, and the Power Fit Bra.

the Capri has a HIGH rise (if it’s high on my torso, then it’s high, bc i am all legs—i wear a 36” jean inseam), the Power Fit Bra is low/medium support on my frame (best for yoga, walking, mobility practice) and the tank will definitely be a staple during the summer.

Pact Organic Athletic Apparel Experience

This is a review + my experience with Pact Organic Apparel.

5-stars

About Pact Organic:

“Conventional cotton uses about 16% of the world’s insecticides and 7% of pesticides. In addition, the World Bank estimates that around 20% of industrial water pollution in the world comes from the treatment and dyeing of textiles. Not to mention the issues around forced labor, child labor, and factory collapses… it’s a dirty business (and we’re on a mission to change it).

We’re committed to organic cotton to minimize our impact on the environment and improve the conditions and quality of life for the people who make our clothing. PACT ORGANIC unites the collective vision of organic cotton farming, responsible manufacturing, sustainable and ethical certifications, and values-based shopping. We believe organic cotton is the foundation for addressing labor and environmental challenges that surround clothing. Our mission is to change the apparel industry for good.

No toxic chemicals are used in the growing of organic cotton. It doesn’t damage the soil, has less impact on the air, and uses 71% less water and 62% less energy than conventional cotton. Organic certification in manufacturing requires dyes to meet biodegradability/eliminability standards, the proper treatment of water, and prohibits the use of toxic heavy metals.

Growing organic cotton keeps farmers and their families safe. They are not exposed to toxic chemicals in the field or through their food and water supply. It also means farmers grow more than one crop which supplements their food and income. In India, farmers have the added benefit of earning the Fair Trade premium.

Our organic cotton is certified by The Global Organic Textile Standard. One of the key pillars of GOTS is the protection of workers’ rights. Employment is freely chosen, working conditions are safe and hygienic, living wages are paid, no discrimination is practiced, and no child labor is used.

We believe shoppers can change industries with the simple, everyday choices of our purchasing decisions. By choosing organic over conventional cotton you have the power to influence people and planet in a big way. Organic cotton makes up less than 1% of the world’s global cotton supply – that’s a big opportunity for change!”

My Experience:

Supersupersuper excited is a good way to describe my feelings when learning that I’d be collaborating with Pact Organic for this run down.

Even if you just skimmed through the information above that Pact shares on their website, so get a good idea that this is very much a “bigger picture” kind of brand. Not only are they thinking about sustainability and the impact of what they are creating, but they are generating beautiful apparel + underwear that feel better and look better.

Not pictured above are the socks Pact sent (crew + dressy style socks) that I’ve been wearing regularly to work underneath my high top sneakers. They provide a comfortable + breathable layer and I’m digging the feel. Also, Pact sent me two pairs of men’s boxer briefs. When my boyfriend first put them on, he smiled and said, “Yeah, they feel good!” That’s a win in my mind!

Having organic underwear is awesome because: you want the highest quality + clean materials next to your most importantest parts, right?

Even if it’s not top priority for you to buy organic + sustainably made clothing, you’d be hyped on this brand SIMPLY because of the feel and fit of the pieces. The underwear and cami are particularly comfy + cozy and the hoodie is already a staple in my gym bag.

The leggings I see as being more of a layering piece, as I’d categorize them as low rise tights on me. I prefer to work out in high rise leggings, so these will be my layering + lounging + around the house leggings. I’m excited that this brand is getting their name out there (and I get to be a part of helping do that–soooo cool).

K guys, you’re about to be HOOKED, so save a little while you’re shopping over at:

YogaSmoga Twistie Tank Review

This is a review of the YogaSmoga Twistie Tank.

YogaSmoga

Overall Rating: 4 Stars

I’ve checked out & reviewed a pair of workout capris and a headband from YogaSmoga once before and found the quality & comfort of their pieces is sublime. The Run Jump ‘n’ Play Capris are still one of my favorite pairs hanging in my closet and they get a ton of use. You can check out that whole review & the photos with it here.

So, with this tank, I’ll get the teensy bit of bad news out of out the way first: tanks with a flowy/loose bottom seem to be the only ones that work for me. Tighter fitting ones (like this one) always ride up on my waist (likely because of my shape–it’s not a product flaw) and are not suitable for me to run in because they don’t stay put.

However, judging this tank just as it is designed to fit, it’s pretty freaking awesome. (Is this making sense?) Basically, I will live in this tank around the house and for things not exercise related. I just won’t work out in it often because of how it moves on my torso.

I was very impressed by the feel of the material and how the built-in shelf provides enough support that I can wear this tank comfortable out of the house without a bra–love that! The color combination is pretty & vibrant & I love the design of the straps in the back. It’s an excellent staple piece to have in your closet to wear even as a cami. If this tank would work for around-the-house AND for running, it would get my highest rating.

As expected, excellent-quality product from YogaSmoga & I’m sure many gals who are tight tank fans will adore this one.

My Thoughts:

When I first saw these pants on the Ellie website, I thought “Oooooo!” There is something about the stripes, the fact that they’re navy instead of black. I just love the pattern of them. They’re very comfortable and I see them as great pants for lifting, doing some light running and during other fitness ventures. I don’t see them as being high performance enough and having a fabric substantial enough to last several years of heavy mileage via running. They tend to wiggle down a tiny bit, gradually during strenuous exercise for me.

The look of this sports bra is likely my favorite that I’ve ever owned. I love pieces that are set apart by their unique detailing. This bra is best suited for lifting, yoga, hiking and lighter forms of exercise that aren’t high impact. It’s not highly supportive (I am a 34 DD bra size). However, I still see it getting tons of wear during the summer on walks, hikes, gardening, etc.

The quality of Ellie apparel is pretty good, but not as high performance as it gets. I enjoy having these fun pieces in my wardrobe and they get a lot of use as my everyday casual wear more than my long runs or sweaty workouts.

Janji Running Shirt & Crops Review

IMG_0302.JPG

Janji

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

About Janji:

“On the way to the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Mike and Dave had an idea: what if they could connect runners around the country to solve one of the world’s most serious problems?  By the time they came home from the track meet, Janji was born.

Mike and Dave knew runners like themselves were charitable.  But they saw that philanthropic running only begins — and unfortunately ends — on race day.  They want Janji to change that.  Through Janji’s high performance apparel, runners can fund solutions and raise awareness for the global food and water crisis in a meaningful and lasting way.  Now, rather than racing just one day for a cause, runners can give back through everyday training.

Janji’s goal is to create a community dedicated to running for another.  That was Mike and Dave’s goal on that bus, and that’s what Janji will always be about.”

My Thoughts:

This is a really neat running apparel brand that I have been lucky enough to try once before. I’ve also tried out their gray running capris. You can read that review here.

During the colder months, having a stash of comfortable long sleeve shirts in my closet is a necessity. The material composition of this shirt is nice because the cotton makes it cozy and the polyester provides the moisture wicking quality. It breathes and performs like an activewear shirt, yet it is cozy enough to wear to be or to lounge around. I also love the unique giraffe traffic on this shirt–it’s little things like that that set one running apparel brand apart from another. My daughter also digs it, as she loves animals!

When I want to wear a pair of capris for a long run, volleyball practice with my team, or a tough workout, I grab my Janjis. The fit is unparelled, they stay put, they are comfortable, they look cool, they are figure flattering. I couldn’t ask for more in a capri. These capris hit me right below the knee, not below the calf like many capris do. I like having pants of varying lengths in my closet–and when I want a knee-length capri, Janji gets my vote every time. Having these pants in gray and black hanging in my closet is absolute gold for my running wardrobe.

Not the least important of which is the fact that Janji is a brand on a mission. As you can see above in the product descriptions, they donate proceeds from their sales to fund folks in Tanzania getting access to clean water. Awesome apparel and awesome mission–I’m so into it!
