Blonyx Beta Alanine Supplement Review

This is a review of Blonyx Beta Alanine supplement for increased performance and better recovery from muscle soreness.

Blonyx Beta Alanine

Overall Rating: 4-stars

About:

BETA-Alanine is a clean and simple supplement that will increase muscular endurance during short to mid-range, high intensity training. It is ideal for athletes wanting to squeeze a few extra reps out of a 10+ rep set or a few more meters / calories from their short interval sprints.

High intensity training causes a build-up of lactic acid in the muscle. This results in a burning sensation in the muscle, a loss of power and eventually fatigue.

In muscle cells, BETA-Alanine is combined with the amino acid histidine to create carnosine. Carnosine buffers lactic acid build-up slowing the onset of fatigue.

BETA-Alanine is a modified version of the amino acid alanine. It can be made in the liver and is then transported via the blood to the muscle cells for carnosine production.

We need to top up the BETA-Alanine we make by getting it in the diet. BETA-Alanine is found in foods like meat and fish.

Research shows that supplementing the diet with an additional 6g/day BETA-Alanine increases muscle carnosine levels resulting in an increase in muscular endurance from acid buffering.

Beta Alanine performance benefits:

-enhances rowing performance at shorter distances (500-2000m)

-improves cycling capacity and sprint performance

-extends time to exhaustion when training at high intensity for short bouts (up to 5 mins)

-can increase power output when doing high intensity interval training like Airdyne sprints

-when doing strength based training, BETA-Alanine increases the volume of training (number of reps), an athlete is capable of achieving

-may also be an antioxidant and have other health benefits

The Science

-When training at high intensity, we rely on anaerobic metabolism to provide energy.
A byproduct of this is lactic acid which, if intensity is high enough, will build up in the muscle cells

-It is widely thought that the pH changes caused by lactic acid build up causes muscle fatigue.
-Increased carnosine levels in the muscle through BETA-Alanine supplementation therefore slows the onset of fatigue

My Experience

Ever since I first started lifting weight and regularly doing Crossfit, I’ve found that my nutrition is ultra important in order for me to recover properly and not feeling endlessly sore through weeks + months of consistent training.

When training volume and intensity are high, I think many people assume they can afford to eat a bunch of junk because they are “burning a lot of it off,” when in reality, you’re body’s need for clean fuel is even more prevalent when you’re going hard.

For me, when I’m fueling my body up well through macro-balanced nutrition and good supplementation, I feel like I have superpowers, especially during exercise.

Regularly taking this Blonyx Beta Alanine before workouts, I can definitely tell a difference in my ability to perform. Not only do I have a surge of energy, but I feel like I can do more reps and last longer at a high level of performing. I can definitely feeling the science working. That lactic acid build up fee

I like how portable the little container is, it’s super easy to throw into my lunch or gym bag.

Something noteable to mention (while not necessarily a bad thing) is the tingly feeling on my skin that I get when I take beta-alanine. It feels like light touches all over. It’s a little strange, but it doesn’t hurt at all. It generally adds to that energetic feeling that this supplement provides.

This brand is making a big splash in the Crossfit world, as I’ve been many athletes trying it out and incorporating this product into their routine. It’s definitely worth looking into if you’re looking for a little extra edge on your workouts.

Pact Organic Athletic Apparel Experience

This is a review + my experience with Pact Organic Apparel.

5-stars

About Pact Organic:

“Conventional cotton uses about 16% of the world’s insecticides and 7% of pesticides. In addition, the World Bank estimates that around 20% of industrial water pollution in the world comes from the treatment and dyeing of textiles. Not to mention the issues around forced labor, child labor, and factory collapses… it’s a dirty business (and we’re on a mission to change it).

We’re committed to organic cotton to minimize our impact on the environment and improve the conditions and quality of life for the people who make our clothing. PACT ORGANIC unites the collective vision of organic cotton farming, responsible manufacturing, sustainable and ethical certifications, and values-based shopping. We believe organic cotton is the foundation for addressing labor and environmental challenges that surround clothing. Our mission is to change the apparel industry for good.

No toxic chemicals are used in the growing of organic cotton. It doesn’t damage the soil, has less impact on the air, and uses 71% less water and 62% less energy than conventional cotton. Organic certification in manufacturing requires dyes to meet biodegradability/eliminability standards, the proper treatment of water, and prohibits the use of toxic heavy metals.

Growing organic cotton keeps farmers and their families safe. They are not exposed to toxic chemicals in the field or through their food and water supply. It also means farmers grow more than one crop which supplements their food and income. In India, farmers have the added benefit of earning the Fair Trade premium.

Our organic cotton is certified by The Global Organic Textile Standard. One of the key pillars of GOTS is the protection of workers’ rights. Employment is freely chosen, working conditions are safe and hygienic, living wages are paid, no discrimination is practiced, and no child labor is used.

We believe shoppers can change industries with the simple, everyday choices of our purchasing decisions. By choosing organic over conventional cotton you have the power to influence people and planet in a big way. Organic cotton makes up less than 1% of the world’s global cotton supply – that’s a big opportunity for change!”

My Experience:

Supersupersuper excited is a good way to describe my feelings when learning that I’d be collaborating with Pact Organic for this run down.

Even if you just skimmed through the information above that Pact shares on their website, so get a good idea that this is very much a “bigger picture” kind of brand. Not only are they thinking about sustainability and the impact of what they are creating, but they are generating beautiful apparel + underwear that feel better and look better.

Not pictured above are the socks Pact sent (crew + dressy style socks) that I’ve been wearing regularly to work underneath my high top sneakers. They provide a comfortable + breathable layer and I’m digging the feel. Also, Pact sent me two pairs of men’s boxer briefs. When my boyfriend first put them on, he smiled and said, “Yeah, they feel good!” That’s a win in my mind!

Having organic underwear is awesome because: you want the highest quality + clean materials next to your most importantest parts, right?

Even if it’s not top priority for you to buy organic + sustainably made clothing, you’d be hyped on this brand SIMPLY because of the feel and fit of the pieces. The underwear and cami are particularly comfy + cozy and the hoodie is already a staple in my gym bag.

The leggings I see as being more of a layering piece, as I’d categorize them as low rise tights on me. I prefer to work out in high rise leggings, so these will be my layering + lounging + around the house leggings. I’m excited that this brand is getting their name out there (and I get to be a part of helping do that–soooo cool).

K guys, you’re about to be HOOKED, so save a little while you’re shopping over at:

Janji Running Shirt & Crops Review

IMG_0302.JPG

Janji

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

About Janji:

“On the way to the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Mike and Dave had an idea: what if they could connect runners around the country to solve one of the world’s most serious problems?  By the time they came home from the track meet, Janji was born.

Mike and Dave knew runners like themselves were charitable.  But they saw that philanthropic running only begins — and unfortunately ends — on race day.  They want Janji to change that.  Through Janji’s high performance apparel, runners can fund solutions and raise awareness for the global food and water crisis in a meaningful and lasting way.  Now, rather than racing just one day for a cause, runners can give back through everyday training.

Janji’s goal is to create a community dedicated to running for another.  That was Mike and Dave’s goal on that bus, and that’s what Janji will always be about.”

My Thoughts:

This is a really neat running apparel brand that I have been lucky enough to try once before. I’ve also tried out their gray running capris. You can read that review here.

During the colder months, having a stash of comfortable long sleeve shirts in my closet is a necessity. The material composition of this shirt is nice because the cotton makes it cozy and the polyester provides the moisture wicking quality. It breathes and performs like an activewear shirt, yet it is cozy enough to wear to be or to lounge around. I also love the unique giraffe traffic on this shirt–it’s little things like that that set one running apparel brand apart from another. My daughter also digs it, as she loves animals!

When I want to wear a pair of capris for a long run, volleyball practice with my team, or a tough workout, I grab my Janjis. The fit is unparelled, they stay put, they are comfortable, they look cool, they are figure flattering. I couldn’t ask for more in a capri. These capris hit me right below the knee, not below the calf like many capris do. I like having pants of varying lengths in my closet–and when I want a knee-length capri, Janji gets my vote every time. Having these pants in gray and black hanging in my closet is absolute gold for my running wardrobe.

Not the least important of which is the fact that Janji is a brand on a mission. As you can see above in the product descriptions, they donate proceeds from their sales to fund folks in Tanzania getting access to clean water. Awesome apparel and awesome mission–I’m so into it!

Palm Beach Athletic Wear Apparel Review

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

If you have read the story under my “About the Author” tab, you might know that I was born in West Palm Beach, FL and lived there until about age 10. I stumbled upon Palm Beach Athletic Wear’s site while on a mission to discover new fitness blogs. Two other fellow healthy lifestyle bloggers, Lisa and Lindsay had written review about PB Athletic Wear’s apparel and I was instantly interested and intrigued by the products because of their vibrant colors and unique patterns. You can read Lisa’s post here and Lindsay’s post here. I thought it was the neatest thing that there were two other bloggers raving about a brand based in the Palm Beach area. This brand has been on my radar ever since!

Palm Beach Athletic Wear

Palm Beach Athletic Wear has quickly grown to become one of the top fitness fashion boutiques online, offering women of all shapes and sizes quality made and unique athletic wear with high style.

Kristen researched and found several top fitness brands and workout clothing that held jiggle in, smoothed out the lumps and bumps and was colorful and gorgeous. Many of the athletic wear brands she discovered were hard to find, Colombian designers that understood the importance of looking good and feeling great when working out.

Bluefish Tweety Top

PB Athletic Wear’s Description:

Like silk against your skin this beautiful flowy top from Bluefish Sport is made to be worn during your workout, as a cover up and to and from the gym for everyday wear.  This fitness tank top is made of lightweight, flowy yoga soft material perfect for practicing yoga or pilates.  The front pleating creates a very flattering fit and the drawstring tie that cinches at the hem allows for a more custom fit. Silver rings at straps add a design element only found in the highest quality athleticwear.  We love to pair this top with the Basic Capri Pants or Basic Shorts but can be worn will all your fashion fitness pants.

My Description & Thoughts:

Since I am such an avid wearer of spandex pants when I workout, I tend to lean towards looser fitting tops so that I don’t feel that I’m in one big spandex outfit. This tank top is the perfect mix of breathability, comfort, sass, and ability to stay put while running.

The adjustable tie feature at the bottom hem of the top is a great idea and allows me to secure the shirt more around my torso, when I prefer to wear it that way. This piece is a great example of an item that can be worn around running errands after a workout because the mid section is forgiving, so you don’t feel like you’re showing too much.

The vibrant color reminds me of south Florida. Anything that reminds me of where I was born is an instant-favorite of mine. 🙂

Chill Capri Pant Tie Dye Blue

PB Athletic Wear’s Description:

“This fitness fashion artfully designed printed activewear capri pant by Bluefish Sport is the hottest item to arrive at Palm Beach Athletic Wear.  The print lycra blend not only looks amazing it feels amazing and is so comfortable on you can wear them anywhere. From the gym to the street the Chill Fitness Capris have the potential to mix and match with just about any top for any occassion. We love to wear them with the Tweety Top or T Back Top and the Balance Bra.

Product features:

  • Lycra blend keeps you dry
  • Soft to the hand
  • Smooth flattering fit
  • Wide comfort waistband – no muffin top
  • Machine Washable
  • Odor reducing technology.”

My Description & Thoughts:

One item in my closet that I would deem indispensable is the ever-so-useful running tight, otherwise known as spandex. They have been my go-to for working out because I’m a gal who has always had muscular legs. I’ve found that shorts ride up and don’t stay put on me, especially while running.

I was intrigued to try these tights by Bluefish Sport (and sold by Palm Beach Athletic Wear) and see if they worked well for me during my workouts.

These tights are excellent. They wear like a dream–they don’t bunch up, they don’t move around and the waistband stays put & isn’t too tight. They are also figure flattering, especially with the way the waistband doesn’t cut in dramatically on the hip area–they are snug enough to stay put, yet forgiving enough to be comfortable.

The capri feature of this pants makes them versatile and suitable for summer and cooler temps.

I’m excited and grateful to add these two pieces to my daily workout apparel rotation.

Thank you, Kristen for your help and generosity in this process!

*These complimentary products have been generously provided to me for the purpose of trying them in order to write a review on my experience.
