Blissoma Organic Skincare Review + Coupon Code: The Products I’ve Tried

blissoma natural deodorant spray

Juniper Natural Deodorant Aromatic Spray

-For Skin Type: All
-Totally revamped recipe as of September 2019
-Safe and effective natural deodorant with all day odor protection
-Juniper spray with herbs, zinc, and silver citrate
-Non aluminum, no antiperspirant ingredients, no baking soda
-Approximately 400 sprays per bottle

-2.5 oz portable aluminum bottle for purse, gym bag or travel

My Experience:

Huge fan of this deodorant. When thinking about why I love it so much, here’s what I came up with:
-It performs (and I’m a sweaty, lots of working out human)
-It’s super easy to apply (I use 2 sprays pet pit)
-It’s the ideal size for traveling
-It lasts way longer than you think as far as the bottle running out
-The juniper scent has a nice, floral, grounding, unique smell to it
I’ve also tried their citrus scent and really enjoyed that natural fragrance as well. If I had to pick, the citrus is my favorite because it packs an invigorating punch, which I like.
blissoma scentless stick natural deodorant

Scentless Stick Solid Strong Natural Deodorant

-For Skin Type: All
-Extra strong deodorant in stick format
-Unscented deodorant recipe with mango butter, organic oils, clay, zinc and baking soda
-No antiperspirant ingredients
-Approximately 2 months of daily use per stick

-2 oz dial up stick for no mess, no fingers application

My Experience:

When I’m looking at this product compared to the spray, I prefer the spray. However, I do think it largely depends on application preference. Both formulas work very well and of course, the ingredients are incredibly clean.

Since generic deodorants typically contain aluminum and other ingredients that you do not want to absorb thru your pits, both of these are an excellent choice for a non-toxic, pit nourishing deodorant that actually keeps the stink away.

Also worth mentioning; I am a heavy sweater, a frequent exerciser and a stinky human due to the constant workouts. This makes me the ideal person to really put these deodorants to the test! I would recommend both the sprays and the sticks.
blissoma photonic light shifting solution spf 25 facial sunscreen

Photonic Broad Spectrum Facial Sunscreen

-For Skin Type: All skin types and ages
-SPF 25 Broad Spectrum UVA/UVB natural mineral sunscreen
-Transparent, non nano Zinc Oxide recipe
-Made with a base of organic herb infusions and vitamin rich seed oils

-Features antioxidant-rich Astaxanthin red algae extract

My Experience:

I’m not always good about wearing sunscreen (thought I do often wear non-toxic makeup),  but this is the perfect way to add sunscreen into your routine; here’s why. This suncreen forms a thin, tinted layer on the skin. This makes it ideal as a primer for underneath makeup (acts as a tinted moisturizer if you want to wear it by itself).

Other sunscreens, in my opinion, tend to form a goopy layer on the skin that’s not suitable to apply makeup afterwards. This product allows me to get a bit more sun protection in addition to any shielding I’m getting by wearing foundation/powder.

As far as coverage goes, I love that it’s tinted and I would say the coverage is light. To me, that makes this product very versatile; good for makeup wearers to layer their foundation on top of (to build up to their desired coverage) and then good for those who don’t want much coverage but still want sun protection.
blissoma pomegranate supreme facial cleansing bar

Pomegranate Supreme Facial Cleansing Bar

-For Skin Type: Dry, Sensitive, Mature
-7 naturally saponified, rich oils
-100% natural, botanical recipe with antioxidant rich rooibos and rhodiola
-3.75 oz bar
-Anti-aging pomegranate oil with Omega 5 fatty acids
-Can be used for shaving or washing the whole body
blissoma oatmilk facial bar

Oatmilk Mellow Facial Cleansing Bar

-For Skin Type: All, Sensitive, Children
-6 naturally saponified, rich oils
-For normal, sensitive, and all skin type and ages
-100% natural, botanical recipe with calming oatmilk and lavender
-3.75 oz bar
-Superfatted recipe provides lipids to nourish skin

-Can be used for shaving or washing the whole body

My Experience with the Facial Bars:

I’m so glad to have started using more bar soaps in my life since becoming a clean beauty product user (since around 2012). Not only do these bars last so much longer than typical liquid cleansers, but they are so effective.

The difference in these two bars for me is subtle; I love both of them. If you are trying to decide which one is for you, I would say it seems like the Pomegranate is more geared towards anti-aging and addressing mature skin. I’m in my early 30’s and beginning to think about that, so it appeals to me.

The Oatmilk bar seems to be best suited for someone with easily (or currently) irritated, reactive skin. It’s gentle, yet effective. If you’re new to a bar soap like those that Blissoma makes, you’ve got to get rid of the idea that bar soaps are stripping. Yes, many of the generic bar soaps you find in stores have ingredients that strip skin and are worrisome as far as toxic load.

However, these bar soaps are completely different. Since the ingredients are mindfully curated, the formulations insure that your skin is left quenched, nourished, restored (all the things that you want for your skin).

If you are using these to remove a face of makeup, I’d recommend cleansing twice. I like doing this in general to make sure the skin is completely clean with no residual makeup left on the skin. The first cleanse does the majority of the deep cleaning, while the second cleanse allows the restorative ingredients in the bar to interact directly with the skin. It’s just the most optimal way (I’ve found) to use these bars when taking off makeup.
blissoma smooth a correcting serum

Smooth A+ Correcting Serum

-For Skin Type: Oily and blemish prone skin suffering from
clogged pores, inflammation, redness, and irritation
-20 active ingredients
-100% natural, botanical recipe with 4% niacinamide, herbs, and vitamin A
-1.3 oz (38 g) quantity provides enough to use product once daily for approx 6 weeks

-Organic herbs freshly extracted at potent concentrations

My Experience:

This serum came highly recommended, as the owner of Blissoma mentioned it’s one of the their best selling products. So, I wanted to give this one a good, honest try to see if the product helped my skin. In the last few years, I’ve noticed wrinkles on my face for the first time (I know that they didn’t just pop up over night), and that my skin is aging. I’m not trying to be dramatic; just mentioning that I’ve noticed a change.

Thus, this serum appealed to me because I know Vitamin A can help with aging, pore size, and maturing skin. Also, the niacinamide (a form of Vitamin B3) ingredient works to combat hyperpigmentation issues. At this point, I’ve been using it for almost 2 months and I have definitely noticed a difference in my skin.

The first thing I noticed is that my complexion started appearing more even–both in terms of pigmentation & as far as pores. In other words, my sunspot and pores were both less visible. The redness on my cheeks has gone down, and my face overall just looks more refreshed. I would definitely recommend this Smooth A+ product to someone in my position who is noticing some signs of aging on their face and are looking for a natural (obviously not invasive) solution.

blissoma organic holistic skincare review

Blissoma Organic Skincare Review + Coupon Code: Concluding Thoughts

Since this company is based in St. Louis, it’s neat to be sharing about a brand out of the Midwest–as we live in Kansas City, MO. I’ve always admired the thoughtfulness and quality of the ingredients, as well as the passion that goes into making them.

As a believer in clean/nontoxic beauty products, I think it’s important to support a brand like Blissoma that has integrity as a foundational part of their ethos. It’s better for your health to use organic skincare, and I’ve found that they perform better, too! Synthetic, chemically-laden ingredients often times irritate the skin the cause more skin issues/imbalance down the road. Clean beauty is for sure the way to go!

Be Natural Organics Skin Care Review

B Natural Organics

Overall Rating: 4 Stars

About B Natural Organics:

“What We Choose to Use, Avoid, and Why

As the dangers caused from toxins in personal care products become more evident, it is important that we educate ourselves on the toxicity levels in every product we use. This will enable us to make informed decisions about what we apply to our skin, and introduce into our bodies.

At Be Natural Organics, we want our customers to be armed with the necessary information to ensure that you make the right choices for your skin.  That is why we have each of our products rated for toxicity levels by an independent environmental organization.

Along with knowledge on the overall toxicity levels in skin care products, we think it is important to understand the various types of toxins.  For this reason, we have included a list below of the two main types of toxins and their effects on our bodies:

Synthetic toxins – Most tend to accumulate in our bodies and attribute to our “Chemical Body Burden”. Numerous studies have shown that synthetic toxins accumulate in our organs and fatty tissues and eventually lower the body’s resistance to fight disease. Two of the main synthetic toxins used in skin care products are parabens and sulfates.  Parabens, found in over 90% of skin care products, collect in the fatty tissues in breasts and have been connected with breast tumors.  Sulfates accumulate in the brain, heart, liver and lungs and have shown similar detrimental effects. At Be Natural Organics, we ensure our products are free of all harmful synthetic toxins.  For more information, please see our “Articles” link.

Natural toxins – These are very different than their synthetic counterparts. Fruit and vegetable enzymes, some essential oils and other botanical actives may have a toxicity rating.  However, these natural enzymes dissipate into the skin, fulfill their purpose (for example, to exfoliate or stimulate collagen), and become neutralized by the body.  They do not carry with them any long-term negative effects. Be Natural Organics will use various natural enzymes to achieve specific results.

Why Be Natural Organics Oils are Superior:

Be Natural Organics ingredients are produced from premium-grade botanicals using a proprietary cold press manufacturing technology. This special process gently extracts oils from natural bio-masses (botanicals) using nominal pressure, resulting in cooler processing temperatures than extrusion processes and without any distillation, harsh chemicals or synthetic ‘stripping.’ In fact, this process is certified organic.

Be Natural Organics botanical oils are exceptionally pure, potent and nutritionally rich.

Other manufacturing processes use solvents or high-heat expeller presses. Worse, some claim to have a “cold” process but sill generate damaging temperatures. The nutritional content of oils vary greatly based upon the manufacturing process.

Be Natural Organics oils are processed under very low temperatures in an inert atmosphere during extraction and bottling to ensure that our all-natural and certified organic products retain their full spectrum of concentrated antioxidants and other valuable phytochemicals (naturally occurring plant constituents) for optimal nutritional benefits.

The result is botanical ingredients exhibiting unprecedented nutritional concentrations, purity and functionality.

At Be Natural Organics we are committed to providing a luxurious product line that surpasses the competition by omitting dangerous synthetic toxins and maintaining high-performing results. We are extremely proud to have achieved our goal and continue to develop new, clean products.

We are also committed to educating consumers on the importance of healthy skin care, and to be a driving force in the removal of all dangerous toxins used in skin care products today.  Towards that end, we have developed a toxin reference card for you to take with you when you go shopping.   Please print this card and put it in your wallet as our gift to you.”

Here is a bit more info about Be Natural Organics that touches on these products in regards to the word “organic”:

“Most of our ingredients are certified organic. We have just now started marking our certified organic ingredients with an askerisk. We have our products rated on skindeep.com and are now in the process of becoming NOP certified.”

Elderberry Balancing Mist

B Natural Organics’ Description:

“Our Elderberry Balancing Mist is created to heal, nourish, and bring oily and acne-prone skin into ph balance. This prepares the skin for optimal absorption of serums and moisturizers. Peppermint and tea tree hydrosol work to control oil production in the skin. Elderberry, pomegranate, and comfrey soothe and heal acne-prone skin. Niacin provides tremendous anti-acne benefits.

Peppermint and tea hydrosol, populous tremoloides (aspen bark) extract, aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice, hyaluronic acid, elderberry, pomegranate and comfrey extracts, niacin, apple pectin, mangosteen, rose hip and bamboo extract.”

My Description & Thoughts:

As suggested, I spray this mist onto my face before applying a serum. You can instantly feel a bit of a tingle, or light zing. It feels like it helps the serum to target acne and blemishes while moisturizing. It works well after application in keeping facial oil at bay.

I’ve also been using this more like a toner, one that I use in the middle of the day to control the oil on my face. It works well for that use also. I like how the ingredients are a long list of plants, most of which are organic (as I discussed above in the intro).

For skin like mine, I like having a product like this around for days when my skin is problematic. It makes me feel like I have something to combat those problems with. I’d recommend this to individuals who are searching for a good product to help balance their oily and problematic skin. You can use this in combination with your current moisturizer to target and heal acne.

Daily Botanical Enzyme Peel

B Natural Organics’ Description:

“Botanical Enzymes have been called the most important skin care agents of the decade. The active enzyme used in our Daily Botanical Enzyme Peel loosens dead cells from the skin’s surface by dissolving stubborn glue-like substances that refuse to release dead skin cells through normal cleansing. These cells create a barrier for proper absorption of moisturizers and serums, so getting rid of these dead cells means that fresher cells are exposed resulting in optimal absorption of products.

Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) juice *, lactic acid (plant-based), populous tremoloides (aspen bark) extract, cucumis sativus (cucumber) extract, panthenol (pro-vitamin B5), bambusa arundinacea (bamboo) extract, zingiber officinale (ginger) extract, calendula officinalis (calendula) extract.”

My Description & Thoughts:

This is one of the few peels I have ever tried in my journey with organic products–so I was extra intrigued about this one!

On the bottle, they recommend that this peel is applied using a cotton ball. Even though that method might be less messy, I prefer to use clean fingertips. That way, you don’t waste any product on the cotton ball. As I applied it bit by bit to my face, I noticed a bit of a tingly, very tolerable stinging sensation. It was a good, clarifying feeling. The packaging even suggests that if, for some reason, you don’t find that tolerable, wash off soon after. Whereas if you’re like me, and find it to be a rejuvenating feeling, you can keep it on for several times.

It feels and looks like this product works well. It helps revive the top layer of skin and leaves it looking fresh and glowing. I find it unique enough of a product that I would consider buying it again to have a product on hand that can tackle my top layer of dead skin. I’d recommend this enzyme peel to anyone who has skin that requires bi-daily washes to keep skin clean and fresh feeling.

AHA Facial Wash

B Natural Organics’ Description:

“This highly effective foaming cleanser contains 10% glycolic acid to help destroy acne-causing bacteria. Removes skin’s outer layer, allowing easier release of clogged pores, excess sebum and debris. Helps reduce skin discoloration from previous acne and encourages pore refinement for a flawless complexion. Your skin will be left clean with a more renewed and even skin tone.

Aqua (distilled water), olea europaea (olive oil) castile, glycolic acid, vegetable glycerin, rosa rubiginosa (rose hip) seed oil, ascophyllum nodosum (seaweed) extract, fortunella swingle (kumquat) oil.”

My Description & Thoughts:

I found this cleanser to be gentle and thorough at the same time. The consistency of the mixture is a liquidy-gelly mixture and lathers up a little bit, but not a ton, like you’d imagine a liquid soap to do. I think, though, that it is gentle because it does not suds up a lot. To get a better clean, I use this product with a plant-fiber facial exfoliating buff or round (I use a Dew Puff).

I think this is a facial wash that would be suitable for a wide range of skin types, as it gentle enough for sensitive skin and can be thorough enough to clean well on an oily face as well. I’d recommend it!

BHA Serum

B Natural Organics’ Description:

“This serum contains the active ingredient beta-hydroxy acid, providing powerful anti-bacterial properties and anti-oxidants to stimulate new cell production while protecting your face in an oil-free base. Deeply penetrates skin to lift debris from clogged pores. Dissolves facial oil all day long as it rejuvenates your skin. Keeps a professional matte finish for oily skin.”

Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) juice, purified water (and) camellia sinensis (green tea) extract, ethanol (natural grain alcohol), salicylic acid, sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid), populous tremoloides (aspen bark) extract, xanthan gum, citrus paradisi (grapefruit) extract, bambusa arundinacea (bamboo) extract, zingiber officinale (ginger) extract, vitamin C-ester.”

My Description & Thoughts:

I’m used to serums that are pure and comprised or organic, hydrating oils. “Oil free” is something I DO NOT look for in a facial product. The myth that oily skin shouldn’t be treated with oil is one that I’d like to squash. Just like our bodies, which need fats to thrive, our skin needs organic, pure oils in moderation as well. High quality, plant based oils are some of the best healers for skin.

All of that said, I DO like this product a lot. I would classify it as more of a skin elixir instead of a serum (simply because in my mind, serum often means a rich combo of oils). I think this product is good at healing skin, but not adding a ton of moisture and hydration to it. That said, I have used it in combination with an organic oil serum and found that it heals and adds moisture well.

I’d recommend this product to be used in combination with an organic oil serum. Together, I think they would help skin and keep it moist.

Purple Prairie Botanicals Lotion, Bug Spray, Deodorant Review

Purple Prairie Botanicals

Overall Rating: 4 Stars

About Purple Prairie Botanicals:

“Our Story:
Once upon a time there was a mother of three who was tired of her dry, irritated skin and acne problems.  She wondered what happened to the skin she was born with. One day while reading her organic gardening magazine, she found an article about old fashioned soap. She knew this was the answer she had been searching for. Soon after her first batch of soap, her skin was reborn! The instinctual desire to create took over and Purple Prairie was founded in 2000.  We are a Minnesota home grown company started with the belief that our skin needs products made with nature’s ingredients to stay healthy & beautiful. Our products contain the finest nurturing, safe & organic ingredients combined with herbal infusions & pure essential oils which restore the balance of both physical and mental well being. We cater to all skin types including the most sensitive skin. All products are 100% natural unless noted otherwise, environmentally safe, petroleum free & paraben free. We are proud to qualify for the National Green Pages directory.

Our Green Philosophy:

All Purple Prairie Botanicals products are inspired and made with a back-to-basics approach. Our products are made in small batches using nature’s ingredients. Many of our products meet and exceed organic standards. All products must meet the following requirements:

NO Petroleum
NO Parabens
NO Synthetic Dyes
NO Artificial Preservatives
No Animal Ingredients
NO Detergents
NO Sulfates

Purple Prairie Botanicals has always believed in the protection and sustainability of our natural world and the delicate systems which balance all life as we know it. This planet produces all of the products we share with you, and it is simply a matter of appreciation and respect that must be given. When purchasing our raw materials, we only work with American companies that lead the industry in environmental stewardship and adhere to strict principles and protocols that ensure fair treatment and compensation for the people involved with the production of our ingredients. This includes organic farming and fair trade practices.

Zero Waste:
Purple Prairie Botanicals is a “Zero Waste” company where any materials which might be regarded as waste are either recycled, re-used, composted, reclaimed, or brought back into the production cycle. All invoices, brochures and other paper materials printed for our customers by Purple Prairie Botanicals is a minimum 35% post consumer waste material. We use minimal/recyclable packaging and recycle/reuse everything possible during the production process. We re-use all shipping material(boxes/packing peanuts, etc.) that arrive with our ingredient purchases. All of the office supplies we use are repurposed, reused or recycled. The packaging material we use to cushion your order is 100% repurposed/reused bubble wrap, peanuts and newsprint salvaged and cleaned from other companies and individuals.

Reusing is better than recycling!!

No Animal Testing:
We are in compliance with the PETA statement of assurance. We do not test on animals and do not purchase materials from any company who tests on animals.”

One of the many things this brand description shows is that a company, even without “organic” or “organics” in their name might perhaps use organic ingredients, and visa versa. Checking out their mission and ingredient lists will help give you a better understanding about it.

Great job, Purple Prairie! 🙂

Patchouli Vanilla Lotion

Purple Prairie Botanicals’ Description:

“Rejuvenate the free spirit- This rich, warming aroma taps into your sensual side of life. Its regeneration properties benefit many skin conditions. The hydrating properties of organic olive oil & shea butter will leave your skin nourished, soft and glowing.

WARNING: Might evoke sensual freedom.

99% Natural Ingredients: aqua(water),organic cold pressed olea europaea(olive)fruit oil, hamamelis virginiana(witch hazel),kosher vegetable glycerin, organic helianthus annuus(sunflower) oil, organic cocos nucifera (coconut), cetearyl alcohol, organic butyrospermum parki (shea butter)fruit, pogostemen(Patchouli)oil, vanilla oil, rosmarinus officinalis(rosemary) leaf extract, salix nigra (black willow)extract.”

My Description & Thoughts:

My first thought when receiving this product: My husband, Paul. I remember when I first met Paul we were discussing soap scents as we were contemplating starting a soap business down the road at some point. He told me how much he liked Patchouli in a soap. I agreed with him–it’s rich earthiness is pleasant and masculine smelling.

This lotion has the earthiness of Patchouli and the decadence of Vanilla–it’s an intoxicating combination. My new daughter and I like to give Paul foot rubs some times after he comes home from work–and that is how I first used this lotion. He appeared to enjoy the scent and feel of the lotion. I could tell in rubbing it in that it is rich and comprised of dense, nourishing ingredients.

A lot of lotions can contain a large amount of water and junk, leaving your skin needing more moisture just minutes later. This one does a great job of keeping skin hydrated. Many organic ingredients make up this lotion, which I love. It’s a lotion I’d recommend to Patchouli lovers and those looking for an earthy scented body moisturizer.

Natural Deodorant

Purple Prairie Botanicals’ Description:

“Our deodorant is a safe alternative to the mainstream aluminum laden versions. This is not an antiperspirant but an effective odor neutralizing solid. Lavender, tea tree and palmarosa oil are proven odor eliminators.

  • 100% natural
  • Non-irritating
  • Aluminum Free
  • Paraben Free

Why choose Purple Prairie deodorant over an antiperspirant?

Antiperspirants and deodorants are not the same thing. Antiperspirants work by clogging, closing, and blocking the pores with powerful astringents such as aluminum salts so that they can’t release sweat. (Note that aluminum can accumulate in the brain.) Sweating is a natural cooling and detoxifying process. Sweating is healthy! Deodorants work by neutralizing the smell of the sweat and by antiseptic action against bacteria.

Directions: Use daily to stay fresh and odor free.

100% Natural Ingredients: Apis mellifera (beeswax), organic cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, organic cold pressed olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, theobroma cacao (cocoa butter), cymbopogan martini (palmarosa oil), pimpinella anisum (anise) oil, lavendula angustifolia (lavender) oil, cupressus sempervirens (cypress oil), melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) oil, zinc oxide and cymbopogon schoenanthus (lemongrass) oil.”

My Description & Thoughts:

Man, I was super bummer that this deodorant smells like licorice! I am not a fan of licorice–the smell nor the taste. It must be the anise oil in this deodorant that exudes the licorice smell.

However, my personal preference in smell is no reason to not recommend this deodorant. If you happen to like licorice, I believe you will really take to this deodorant. If you compared this ingredient lists to a stick of deodorant from a big box grocery store, you’d buy this one in a heartbeat. All of these ingredients are familiar and plant based–and a lot of them are organic. What a refreshing thing to see another deodorant (I’ve only come across a handful of good ones that are also effective) that is aluminum free, paraben free and comprised of all natural ingredients.

Despite my distaste for anise, I tried out this deodorant and tested it out on a run outdoors. Funny enough, I knew this deodorant was working well because I continued to smell licorice throughout my run! 🙂 Again, I realize that A LOT of people love this scent. I would recommend this deodorant to THOSE people. It performed well for me, and I perspire profusely when I run in the heat, so that says something.

Deet Free Bug Spray (for pets, too!)

Purple Prairie Botanicals’ Description:

“A natural, safe way to to keep gnats, biting flies and mosquitoes away. A special blend of essential oils and plant extracts in a clean witch hazel and water base. Deet free. Try it on itchy bites, poison ivy, chicken pox and other itchies too. Safe for all ages.

Frolicking outside will be fun again!

Directions: Spray on exposed skin to keep away biting flies, gnats and mosquitoes. Repeat as necessary.  Feel the relief. Avoid eyes. Store in a cool, dark place.

External Use Only

96% Natural Ingredients: aqua (water), hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel), polysorbate 20, eucalyptus citriadora (lemon eucalyptus), azadirachta indica (neem) seed oil, nepeta cataria (catnip) oil, cymbopogon schoenanthus (lemongrass) oil, eucalyptus globulus (eucalyptus) leaf oil, melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) oil, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) oil, mentha piperita (peppermint) oil and salix nigra (black willow) extract.”

My Description & Thoughts:

I loved getting a sample of this product. My family does a lot of outdoor walking and hiking in addition to my daily runs. This bug spray has been much needed at times. An outing is just that much more enjoyable when you don’t have bugs buzzing around your face, biting you, etc. The bottle I received fit perfectly and conveniently into a pocket of my Camelbak. The larger bottle looks just as portable and would certainly fit easily into any pocket or pouch that would normally carry a water bottle.

I found this spray to be very effective! I didn’t have one worry about bugs biting me when I had it applied. I’m sure this is because Purple Prairie uses several potent essential oils, many of which are natural bug repellers. They get the job done and also leave a nice herbaceous, earthy scent on your skin and clothes. It doesn’t smell of chemicals at all, like many bug sprays do.

In addition to this awesome bug spray, Purple Prairie Botanicals makes several products specifically geared towards gardening (My Mom is a Master Gardener and I see these gardening lotions, salves and sprays to be perfect for her).

I think everyone needs some of this bug spray around. It’s a great for a family to have on hand to spray themselves, the kids and the pets before going outdoors. It will allow you to be worry-free about bugs and bug bites.

Essence of Vali Essential Oil Healing Blends Review

Essence of Vali Healing Blends

Overall Rating: 3 Stars

About Essence of Vali:

“I am Valerie Bennis, founder and president of Essence of Vali.  The name of the company is very fitting as my nickname is Vali.  Creating blends that smell beautiful and are used in a sensual and healing way are a creative expression of who I am.  From an early age, I have loved self care and taking care of others.

In my thirties, I became interested in holistic healing and studied therapeutic touch, Reiki, nutrition, herbs, detox programs, homeopathy, Bach flower remedies, juicing, fasting, and aromatherapy.  I loved tinkering at home, making therapeutic formulas as well as creating recipes for my beauty regime.  It was always a source of pleasure and fascination for me.

I continued my career in the corporate world and evenings and weekends, continued my other life as an alchemist of sorts.  Then I went through some soul searching about my life and my future and decided to follow my heart and focus on an area of holistic healing.  That was when I decided to focus on “essential oils” also known as “aromatherapy”.  I loved all the ways the essences could be used – therapeutic, medicinal, beauty, and addressing all levels of mind, body, spirit.

Once I made my decision, I found the perfect teacher and studied as an apprentice for an intense six month period.  This was followed by a certification program and a diploma program.  I became a certified aromatherapist four years after I started my studies.  All this time, I was still at my day job, happily making customized blends for individual clients, evenings and weekends.  I lived a bit of a double life and people at work used to sneak into my office for advice and for their customized blends.

My recipe book was quickly being filled up with healing formulas.  To this day, I still have my original book with the person’s name for whom the formula was created.  In the year 2000 I left my corporate life and launched the Essence of Vali line of products. It has been an exciting journey that I am still on as I continue to focus on getting our products out there in the world.

Beyond the products, we love inspiring people to love themselves, age gracefully and experience a whole new way of life.  We believe in challenging your mind, honoring your body and celebrating your spirit.

May you always take impeccable care of your self,

Vali has been a joy to coordinate with and she was extremely generous and allowing me access to a wide selection of samples to try. Thank you, Vali!

Analgesic Relief Balm

Botanical Mists

Uplift Mood Mist

Essence of Vali’s Description:

“Uplift is our “cheer up” blend and my personal favorite! It is wonderful when you are feeling down in the dumps with bergamot and litsea cubeba both providing fantastic “anti blues” properties. Gently shake bottle. Mist around room to freshen air or use as a body spray, avoiding contact with face and eyes. You can also mist sheets and corners of pillowcase.

Essential oils (from plants) of lavender, spruce, bergamot & litsea cubeba in a base of distilled water.”

My Description & Thoughts:

I spray this mist onto the front of my shirt as I’m drinking coffee in the morning. There is a coffee blend that I love and it is called “Uplifting,” so I found this mist to compliment the coffee drinking well. 🙂

It smells like fresh plants and flowers and is, indeed, uplifting!

Passion Love Mist

Essence of Vali’s Description:

“Enhancing romantic moments, you and your partner can use this aphrodisiac and sensual blend for misting sheets, pillowcases and body. Gently shake bottle. Spray on sheets and corners of pillowcase. You can also mist the room to create a romantic mood or freshen the air. It can also be used as a body mist.

Essential oils (from plants) of orange, ylang/ylang, patchouli & ginger in a base of distilled water.”

My Description & Thoughts:

This is a great mist to have in your bedroom, as the ylang ylang is relaxing and soothing. The patchouli & ginger add a nice earthy zest, too! Very unique and lovely scent.

Mini Vials

Sleep Mini Vial

Essence of Vali’s Description:

“Sleep is our most popular blend as it eases people into a peaceful sleep and comforts them during times of stress. The concentrate is the most potent of the sleep collection. A drop is all it takes. Tip bottle to release a drop onto the corner of the pillowcase. You can also put a drop on a tissue or cotton ball and tuck into the corner of the pillowcase.

Essential oils (from plants) of lavender, marjoram, cedarwood & ylang/ylang.”

My Description & Thoughts:

The two main scents I smell from this are the lavender and ylang yang. I find both of those scents to be relaxing–making them perfect for a sleep blend.

I love Essence of Vali’s line of “sleep” products, as I have trouble waking up feeling rested and refreshed on most mornings. These I see why they are some of the best sellers.

EOV Eau De Parfum Mini Vial

Essence of Vali’s Description:

“I consider EOV my masterpiece blend! It was created over 10 years ago for a private client and I have always loved the aroma of this complex and enticing formula. It is personally my favorite perfume and I wear it year round. Where ever I go, people ask –“what is that perfume you are wearing?” If you would like to try a sample, please call or e-mail and we will send one to you free of charge.

Men and women can both enjoy the benefits of aromatherapy and the pleasure of wearing a beautiful fragrance. Use as you would perfume, misting on pulse points. Some people also like to use it as a room spray.

Essential oils (from plants) of lavender, rosewood, cedarwood, patchouli, palmarosa, geranium, litsea cubeba and clove in a base of corn alcohol and water.”

My Description & Thoughts:

All of these essential oils together make such a unique, interesting, and even unisex fragrance. It is very wearable for during the day but can be worn heavier for a “night time” scent.

Love the convenience of carrying this little bottle in my purse for quick and easy application.

Massage & Bath Oils

EOV Body Oil

Sleep Oil

Essence of Vali’s Description:

“Sleep is our most popular blend as it eases people into a peaceful sleep and comforts them during times of stress. Before bedtime, massage well into the skin all over your body. My Description & Thoughts:

Like the mist, this oil is perfect to have in your bedroom. The essential oils are conducive to a relaxed and loving mood.

Fortify Oil

Essence of Vali’s Description:

“A grounding, comforting and restorative blend, it is very helpful when you are feeling emotionally fragile. Massage well into the skin all over your body, or apply to specific areas. Use after bath or shower while skin is still moist to moisturize and scent the skin.

Essential oils (from plants) of cedarwood, rosewood & spruce in a base of 100% pesticide free golden jojoba.”

My Thoughts & Suggestions for Improvement:

This blend smells like walking through a thickly wooden forest. I gets me in the mood to be outdoors!

I’d say this blend can be used to inspire yourself to get outdoors and get connected to nature, thus destressing yourself. I look forward to sharing some with my fiancee, as he loves the outdoors like I do and I’m sure would appreciate the scent.

All in all, Essence of Vali has a wide ranging, impressive line of essential oil blends that I have thoroughly enjoyed using. It is such an experience to use and smell these scents. I trust that Vali makes her blends from high quality oils. It would give me an added boost of confidence in the product ingredients, though, knowing that the plants were grown organically.

I would recommend these products to someone looking for good quality essential oils to “tackle” their daily health issues. These are not the best quality I’ve come across, though they are above average.

After all, that’s what the writer of Run On Organic strives for! 😉

Forager Botanicals Natural Perfumes Review

Forager Botanicals Natural Perfumes

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

Perfume that you can readily find at the drug store or big department stores might smell good, but they are full of synthetic fragrance and chemicals that make them smell that way. I love finding companies whose mission is to make wonderful smelling perfumes that are comprised of ingredients that are not harmful to skin. Forager is one of these companies.

Here is a bit of background information about Forager Botanicals:

“Forager Botanicals is a natural fragrance and beauty company focused on creating beautiful products using all natural ingredients. Proprietor, Casey Coyle, a Brooklyn graphic designer and art director has been working in the beauty industry for many years. When pregnant with her daughter Casey became turned off  by the overpowering scents and harmful ingredients in many mainstream beauty products. When she was a little girl Casey used to make her own perfumes out of water and flower petals from her grandmothers garden. Casey longed for simpler more natural scents like these and developed the products for Forager for women seeking the same.

Why Natural?

Many of todays mainstream fragrances and beauty products are scented with synthetic chemical compounds. There is little known about what effects these chemicals may have on your body. That’s why all of Forager Botanical perfumes are 100% natural. We use only natural, organic and wildcrafted essential oils in all of our products. Our beautifully crafted fragrances are designed to closely embody the scents that mother nature has bestowed on us. We use only the finest ingredients and oils to create fragrances that are completely natural yet truly luxurious.”

Forager natural perfumes come in four unique scents:

Bloom – Eau De Parfum

Forager’s Description:

“This beautifully scented all natural eau de parfum is light and feminine and has notes of Spring blossoms and green twig.

We use all natural (organic when possible) botanical essential oils and our products are:

• Free From Harmful Synthetics
• Color, Paraben, Sulfate and Preservative Free

All of our products are handcrafted in Brooklyn. Our wooden tops are handmade by a local artisan so please allow for slight variation from the item pictured.”

My Description & Thoughts:

This fragrance smells like walking through a garden of fresh, blooming flowers. It can be as subtle, or potent, depending on how much you apply. I typically do not lean towards flowery fragrances, however, this scent smells so real and pleasant that it appeals to me.

Island Lei – Eau De Parfum

Forager’s Description:

“This beautifully scented all natural eau de parfum has notes of tropical night blooming flowers, vanilla and sandalwood.

My favorite scent of the three because I am crazy about sandalwood and vanilla. Those two scents combined with the floral notes make for an unexpected, rich, fresh scent. Very wearable for day & night–as it is not too “heavy.”

Nectar – Eau De Parfum

Forager’s Description:

“This beautifully scented all natural eau de parfum has notes of succulent florals, citrus and honey.

Nectar has such a nice smell to it. I would rank it as my second favorite of the four perfume scents. The honey and citrus make it even more appealing to me than “Bloom” because they add a little extra sweetness & zest.

Woodland – Eau De Parfum

Forager’s Description:

“This beautifully scented all natural eau de parfum is a unisex fragrance with notes of cedarwood, high alps lavender and sweet, rich herbs.

My Description & Thoughts

Although I have been wearing this scent, I thought of my fiancee Paul when applying it. It is definitely the most masculine smelling of the four. The woodsy notes remind me of being in a forest, surrounded by fragrant greenery. I would classify “Woodland” as a unisex scent, very wearable for both.
