This is a review of the Camelbak Chute water bottle.
Alkaline water has been all the rage lately, with benefits like bringing your body‘s pH to a healthier level, improving detox pathways and aiding overall wellness.
About Essentia Water:
“It takes hydration to the next level.
We created Essentia to help you get the most out of the water you drink. Proper hydration is essential to good health. When your body is dehydrated, your joints get stiff, your muscles get sore, your concentration and performance fade – just to name a few. Drinking sufficient water every day will keep you hydrated and give your body energy to function at its best. Essentia’s hydrating qualities come from our proprietary electrolyte formula, ionization process resulting in a alkaline pH of 9.5.
It gives you more of what you need.
Electrolytes facilitate communication within and between your body’s cells and are critical to maintaining normal blood pressure, restful sleep, concentration and focus, proper cardiac rhythm, muscle strength, endocrine balance, intestinal function and more. Essentia is infused with trace amounts of essential minerals which emulate the naturally occurring minerals in your body.
Make Every Ounce Count
Most bottled waters offer purity but no additional benefits. Essentia’s proprietary process adds the perfect blend of electrolytes to purified water and then is ionized, creating a distinctive alkaline 9.5pH water to help your body stay properly hydrated.
And, it tastes great.
With Essentia, you get a clean & smooth tasting water without the added sugar, artificial flavoring and calories found in many sports drinks. Plus, it tastes pure, natural and delicious!”
I’ll start by saying this, I am and having always been very apprehensive about bottled water. Ultimately, I think that the best way to consume water everyday (with a conscious, mindful effort to conserve) is to invest in a high quality filter at home and fill up a glass, stainless steel, or BPA-free plastic bottle for consumption thoughout the day.
That said, I’m in touch with reality enough to realize that on-the-go options are sometimes needed. That’s where Essentia comes in. Their bottles are BPA-free, recyclable and come in a few different sizes depending on how much hydration you wish to take with you.
We all know that hydration is important. But how we hydrate is something we should tune into. Is our water full of contaminants? Is it in a safe bottle? Is the water improving or hindering our health?
Alongside the fact that hydration is vital to health is the concept of alkalinity. An alkaline body is more able to ward off illness disease, maintain a balanced state (hormones, energy levels, etc.) as well as keep excess weight off. I love that Essentia’s water has a high pH (9.5). I actually make my own high pH drink every day and take a shot of it at night (you can achieve this by adding sodium bicarbonate–or baking soda–along with pink Himalayan sea salt with water). Essentia essentially gives me the ability to bring this type of alkalizing boost on the road with me, on my commute or to the gym when I’m in a pinch.
All in all, this bottled water brand stands high and firmly above most others. It’s not just water. It’s healthy, alkalizing, super powered water. Not all bottled waters are created equal!
I had the pleasure of meeting part of Team Essentia at Natural Products Expo West this year and was so impressed by their knowledge and generosity. Matthew from Essentia has been especially helpful & inspiring with his enthusiasm for health & fitness! My experience with Essentia has been nothing short of excellent.

YogiToes, a line under the Manduka Yoga umbrella, is a unique, vibrant, fun set of yoga gear and accessories that are made thoughtfully and with recycled, high-performing materials.
I love a great, wide, everyday headband that will stay on after vigorous activity. The headbands I’ve worn in the past that perform the best have a grippy strip on the underneath side, helping it resist movement. Though this headband does not have a grippy strip, it is wide enough to pretty much compensate for that. The material is very comfortable (94% cotton) and can truly make the perfect headband for wearing around the house, during yoga or for a run outdoors, alike. If I had to make one change to the design of the band, I’d make the circumference a little bit smaller so that the headband fits a little snugger (I would only want it snugger for workouts; not for wearing around the house). I didn’t have a problem with it wiggly back and off my head while running, but that was primarily because I wear large over-the-head headphones when I run that help keep my headband in place. While wearing this headband to volleyball practice with the team I coach, I noticed that I had to reposition the band a few times as it had slid backwards.
A good BPA-free, durable, portable water bottle is something that is very much a part of my daily commutes to work and practice. I always have filtered water around–it’s an absolute necessity. This stainless steel water bottle is a good size (holds 25 fluid oz.), fits all of my car cup holders and backpack bottle pockets and is substantial enough that I can drop it without fearing that it will be damaged. I like that you can drink out of the nozzle or unscrew the lid and drink out of the open bottle. Sometimes I like the lid-off approach when I am amidst a hard workout and feel the need to guzzle water.
I’d recommend both of these products (as well as Manduka’s yoga mats! I use mine for indoor workouts–so don’t think its use is limited to yoga). The quality is there, the sustainability is there and so it the personality behind the products.
About the Forge:
“Forge ahead without spills on your way to the trailhead in the morning. Sometimes water just isn’t enough—that’s why we reinvented the travel mug for a better on-the-go coffee and tea experience. The double-walled, vacuum-insulated steel vessel keeps 16 oz. of coffee or tea piping hot for over 4 hours, with an impact cap that prevents dents or cracks if you drop it. The Forge is designed to fit in most cup holders, but the leak-proof cap means you can also toss it into your pack without soaking your gear.
When you need to keep your eyes on the road, the self-sealing cap lets you drink one-handed, then snaps back into place to prevent leaks or spills. For frequent sipping, just press the top button to lock the cap open. The lid won’t collect grime, either—just pop up the arms for easy cleaning in the sink or dishwasher.”
I have been crazy fortunate to work with this radical brand, Camelback, on several occasions on several reviews. You can give those a read here:
My first experience with the Camelbak Forge was a bit comical. I thought that I had received a defective bottle because I could not get the sip slide feature to come off completely while I had the lid screwed on tightly. Turns out, this bottle was smarter than me! It was designed that way to make leaks and spills less likely.
When the lid is screwed on, you take a drink by engaging a button on the side of the lid–it opens just enough to allow you to drink. When you release the button, the bottle is completely sealed. I’d imagine I could shake it, toss it upside down across the car and have no mess at it. It’s truly and awesome design.
The 16 ounce size is perfect for me–a great size for commuting with coffee or tea. The Forge also keeps my coffee warm for a longggggggg time, to boot. I know many containers claim that–but it’s truly the case with the Camelback Forge. I brought a Forge-full (hehe) of coffee with me to an all-day volleyball tournament and my coffee was warmer than room temperature by the end of the day. I was very impressed with that.
I’m so happy with the Camelback Forge. I can see myself purchasing many to give as gifts in the future. It’s the perfect gift for the winter months or just for your favorite coffee/tea drinker. As always with Camelbak products, the Forge is BPA-Free. It’s another fabulous product from Camelback. Kudos!!

The Camelbak brand is invaluable to my family’s vigor for nature and being outdoors. We love all of our Camelbak backpacks as well as the water bottles–of course, I’m a big fan of the fact that they are all BPA-free. This large purple Eddy bottle is perfect for our little girl her fluid capacity gradually increases. It’s a bit bigger than the kid’s Eddy and is great for long days or trips away from our home water filter.
As far as electrolyte replacement and hydration goes, I’m very easily to please. Water does it for me. I drink only water before and after activity, with the occasional squeeze of fresh lemon juice or lemon essential oil into my water bottle. I don’t naturally gravitate towards sports drinks or mixes. If I try them, my standards are pretty high. I want the ingredient list to be chock full of recognizable, whole food ingredients.
In the case of Mantra, it’s tough for me to stand behind a product that does not use organic ingredients. I do believe it to be a large step in the right direction (and better than the big lines of sports drinks–not naming names) for these Camelbak Mantra powder mixes to be free of artificial ingredients, colors and sweeteners– & I like the choice to use stevia in these mixes. However, to make it into my daily routine, these ingredient lists would have to look much more appealing and recognizable.
I appreciate the idea of this product, but in actuality–the ingredients are not up to par for this running girl.
