A healthy complexion and a healthy inside are mostly a result of your diet and lifestyle choices, BUT, there is a way to ramp that up and take your skin game to the next level with a small daily health hack.

Enter: DRY BRUSHING.

If you’re in the health and wellness world, you’ve likely heard of this trend and have been curious: is it all hype or is it legit?

Well, folks, get excited because there are some real benefits (besides the fact that it feels like a full body back scratch!). It’s so invigorating.

Benefits of Dry Brushing

Enhanced detoxification through the skin

Improved + dewy complexion, as dry brushing takes away the top layer of dead skin cells

Better lymphatic function (one of the systems + pathways utilized to rid the body of waste).

Reduced appearance of cellulite. This is tied in with the lymphatic benefits; dry brushing stimulates blood flow and encourages the build up in your tissue to get flushed out with other toxins. It also can activate adipose tissue beneath the skin and spread out fat deposits, thus reducing the appearance of cellulite.

Improved circulation and heart health. You can optimize this by starting at your extremities and working your way towards your heart.

It’s so rad that the benefits are both health related and also address overall good body feeling + appearance. This brush is super affordable and I love the dry brushing part of my daily routine.

I brush my body in the shower before I start running the water to be sure that I catch all of the little skin particles that the brush takes off.

Jump back here and let me know what you think of dry brushing after you try it. Happy brushing!

xoxo

Organic, Homemade, DIY Toothpaste Recipe

Organic, Homemade, DIY Toothpaste

It’s simple to whip up your own toothpaste. The best part is that you can have peace of mind knowing you aren’t putting garbage into your mouth (just take a look at the ingredient list on your typical store-bought toothpaste).

Ingredients:

Equal parts of organic coconut oil and baking soda

10 drops of peppermint essential oil per 1/2 cup of mixture

Instructions:

When I make this, I wing it. No measurements–I just eyeball it. However, I realize some people take to recipes. ūüôā I just make a paste of the coconut oil and baking soda, then add several drops of the peppermint essential oil. Enjoy a mouthful of minty, organic freshness!

It’s even okay if you swallow a little of it (unlike most toothpastes–who instruct you to call poison control if ingested). No worries here!

My Description & Thoughts:

I get really excited when I find a product that has SO many uses. It really makes me feel like it increases the value of the product ten-fold. As More Than Alive mentions, diatomaceous earth has many health benefits (regulates blood pressure and cholesterol, detoxes the colon, relieves joint pain, strengthens hair and toughens nails) which would benefit everyone. As far as using this powder, there are several ways to do it:

-Combine with water and make a paste. Use as a facial mask.

-Blend with water and ingest as a supplement. This aids in detoxification and digestion.

-Sprinkle around house as a natural pest eliminator. (how interesting that you can drink it and use as a pest-repeller!)

-Apply to wet toothbrush and brush your teeth. This helps with removing plaque and naturally whitening teeth.

-Sprinkle over dog food to deworm.

-Use in pet shampoo to fight fleas.

-Apply paste to scalp to help promote hair growth.
