This is a review of the Camelbak Chute water bottle.
About the Forge:
“Forge ahead without spills on your way to the trailhead in the morning. Sometimes water just isn’t enough—that’s why we reinvented the travel mug for a better on-the-go coffee and tea experience. The double-walled, vacuum-insulated steel vessel keeps 16 oz. of coffee or tea piping hot for over 4 hours, with an impact cap that prevents dents or cracks if you drop it. The Forge is designed to fit in most cup holders, but the leak-proof cap means you can also toss it into your pack without soaking your gear.
When you need to keep your eyes on the road, the self-sealing cap lets you drink one-handed, then snaps back into place to prevent leaks or spills. For frequent sipping, just press the top button to lock the cap open. The lid won’t collect grime, either—just pop up the arms for easy cleaning in the sink or dishwasher.”
I have been crazy fortunate to work with this radical brand, Camelback, on several occasions on several reviews. You can give those a read here:
My first experience with the Camelbak Forge was a bit comical. I thought that I had received a defective bottle because I could not get the sip slide feature to come off completely while I had the lid screwed on tightly. Turns out, this bottle was smarter than me! It was designed that way to make leaks and spills less likely.
When the lid is screwed on, you take a drink by engaging a button on the side of the lid–it opens just enough to allow you to drink. When you release the button, the bottle is completely sealed. I’d imagine I could shake it, toss it upside down across the car and have no mess at it. It’s truly and awesome design.
The 16 ounce size is perfect for me–a great size for commuting with coffee or tea. The Forge also keeps my coffee warm for a longggggggg time, to boot. I know many containers claim that–but it’s truly the case with the Camelback Forge. I brought a Forge-full (hehe) of coffee with me to an all-day volleyball tournament and my coffee was warmer than room temperature by the end of the day. I was very impressed with that.
I’m so happy with the Camelback Forge. I can see myself purchasing many to give as gifts in the future. It’s the perfect gift for the winter months or just for your favorite coffee/tea drinker. As always with Camelbak products, the Forge is BPA-Free. It’s another fabulous product from Camelback. Kudos!!

“NATURAL INGREDIENTS: No artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners.

FULL INGREDIENT LIST for Blueberry Pomegranate (for example): Monopotassium Phosphate, Calcium Lactate, Sodium Citrate, Magnesium Lactate, Citric Acid, Stevia Leaf Extract, Fruit and Vegetable Juice for Color, Natural Flavor, Ascorbic Acid, Niacinamide, Retinol Acetate, Alpha-Tocopheryl Acetate, Calcium Pantothenate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Folic Acid, Biotin, and Cyanocobalamin.”
The Camelbak brand is invaluable to my family’s vigor for nature and being outdoors. We love all of our Camelbak backpacks as well as the water bottles–of course, I’m a big fan of the fact that they are all BPA-free. This large purple Eddy bottle is perfect for our little girl her fluid capacity gradually increases. It’s a bit bigger than the kid’s Eddy and is great for long days or trips away from our home water filter.
As far as electrolyte replacement and hydration goes, I’m very easily to please. Water does it for me. I drink only water before and after activity, with the occasional squeeze of fresh lemon juice or lemon essential oil into my water bottle. I don’t naturally gravitate towards sports drinks or mixes. If I try them, my standards are pretty high. I want the ingredient list to be chock full of recognizable, whole food ingredients.
In the case of Mantra, it’s tough for me to stand behind a product that does not use organic ingredients. I do believe it to be a large step in the right direction (and better than the big lines of sports drinks–not naming names) for these Camelbak Mantra powder mixes to be free of artificial ingredients, colors and sweeteners– & I like the choice to use stevia in these mixes. However, to make it into my daily routine, these ingredient lists would have to look much more appealing and recognizable.
I appreciate the idea of this product, but in actuality–the ingredients are not up to par for this running girl.
About Camelbak Relay:
“CamelBak® Relay™ reinvents home water filtration with a unique Double Filter Technology that allows you to filter at the speed of your faucet. The innovative double-filter design removes chlorine, taste, and odors twice—every time you fill and every time you pour. Made with plant based activated carbon, each Fresh™ Filter lasts twice as long as the leading competitor—up to four months. With its spill-proof locking lid and space-saving design, Relay goes from your faucet to your fridge in a snap. It’s so fast and easy, you’ll discover all kinds of new uses for filtered water, from making your morning coffee to washing fruits and vegetables. Learn more at relay.camelbak.com. 10-cup (80oz) capacity. Dishwasher safe (top rack). ”
DOUBLE FILTER TECHNOLOGY
Filter as you fill and again as you pour for great tasting water. This dual filter system is the secret to delivering freshly filtered water, fast.
The Relay Fresh Filter is pleated, which increases the amount of water that comes into contact with the filter at a time. This design allows Relay to filter water 10X faster than the leading competitor.
The Relay Fresh Filter is packed with plant-based activated carbon that is embedded into a non-woven material. Independent test data shows Relay removes 97% of chlorine, taste and odor (see test data here).
LOCKING LID STAYS IN PLACE
No more super slo-mo trips from the faucet to the fridge. The Relay lid snaps on and locks tight, ensuring that you won’t slosh water all over the kitchen floor.
NO SPILLS WHEN YOU POUR
CamelBak Relay filters at the speed of your faucet. This eliminates the need for a filling reservoir (located at the top of most pitchers), making Relay easy to balance and virtually impossible to spill.”
When Camelbak contacted me to share their newest product, the Camelbak relay Pitcher, I was very excited to incorporate this product into my family’s daily routine. Between filling up glasses of drinking water, filling up a blender, filling up the coffee maker, filling up the dog bowl and other kitchen necessities, we require quite a bit of filtered water in a day’s time! Though we have a large filter jug that we keep in the kitchen, this Camelbak pitcher fits into our routine nicely, as it:
-Fits on a refridgerator shelf (our other, larger filter does not)
-(Seriously) filters water as fast as it comes out of the faucet–it’s amazing to watch.
-Holds enough water to fill up several glasses of water-
-Doesn’t leak as you pour (most filters, from my experience, leak and make a mess!)
-Is BPA free, like other Camelbak products
My scrutiny is that with the convenience of quick, filtered water, comes a compromise in how many impurities can be filtered out (understandably so). For a quick way to minimize chlorine and bad taste, this pitcher gets the job done!
About Purple Prairie Botanicals:
Once upon a time there was a mother of three who was tired of her dry, irritated skin and acne problems. She wondered what happened to the skin she was born with. One day while reading her organic gardening magazine, she found an article about old fashioned soap. She knew this was the answer she had been searching for. Soon after her first batch of soap, her skin was reborn! The instinctual desire to create took over and Purple Prairie was founded in 2000. We are a Minnesota home grown company started with the belief that our skin needs products made with nature’s ingredients to stay healthy & beautiful. Our products contain the finest nurturing, safe & organic ingredients combined with herbal infusions & pure essential oils which restore the balance of both physical and mental well being. We cater to all skin types including the most sensitive skin. All products are 100% natural unless noted otherwise, environmentally safe, petroleum free & paraben free. We are proud to qualify for the National Green Pages directory.
Our Green Philosophy:
All Purple Prairie Botanicals products are inspired and made with a back-to-basics approach. Our products are made in small batches using nature’s ingredients. Many of our products meet and exceed organic standards. All products must meet the following requirements:

When purchasing our raw materials, we only work with American companies that lead the industry in environmental stewardship and adhere to strict principles and protocols that ensure fair treatment and compensation for the people involved with the production of our ingredients. This includes organic farming and fair trade practices.

One of the many things this brand description shows is that a company, even without “organic” or “organics” in their name might perhaps use organic ingredients, and visa versa. Checking out their mission and ingredient lists will help give you a better understanding about it.
Great job, Purple Prairie! 🙂

My Description & Thoughts:
My first thought when receiving this product: My husband, Paul. I remember when I first met Paul we were discussing soap scents as we were contemplating starting a soap business down the road at some point. He told me how much he liked Patchouli in a soap. I agreed with him–it’s rich earthiness is pleasant and masculine smelling.
This lotion has the earthiness of Patchouli and the decadence of Vanilla–it’s an intoxicating combination. My new daughter and I like to give Paul foot rubs some times after he comes home from work–and that is how I first used this lotion. He appeared to enjoy the scent and feel of the lotion. I could tell in rubbing it in that it is rich and comprised of dense, nourishing ingredients.
A lot of lotions can contain a large amount of water and junk, leaving your skin needing more moisture just minutes later. This one does a great job of keeping skin hydrated. Many organic ingredients make up this lotion, which I love. It’s a lotion I’d recommend to Patchouli lovers and those looking for an earthy scented body moisturizer.
Purple Prairie Botanicals’ Description:
“Our deodorant is a safe alternative to the mainstream aluminum laden versions. This is not an antiperspirant but an effective odor neutralizing solid. Lavender, tea tree and palmarosa oil are proven odor eliminators.
- 100% natural
- Aluminum Free
- Paraben Free
Why choose Purple Prairie deodorant over an antiperspirant?
Antiperspirants and deodorants are not the same thing. Antiperspirants work by clogging, closing, and blocking the pores with powerful astringents such as aluminum salts so that they can’t release sweat. (Note that aluminum can accumulate in the brain.) Sweating is a natural cooling and detoxifying process. Sweating is healthy! Deodorants work by neutralizing the smell of the sweat and by antiseptic action against bacteria.
Directions: Use daily to stay fresh and odor free.
100% Natural Ingredients: Apis mellifera (beeswax), organic cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, organic cold pressed olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, theobroma cacao (cocoa butter), cymbopogan martini (palmarosa oil), pimpinella anisum (anise) oil, lavendula angustifolia (lavender) oil, cupressus sempervirens (cypress oil), melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) oil, zinc oxide and cymbopogon schoenanthus (lemongrass) oil.”
My Description & Thoughts:
Man, I was super bummer that this deodorant smells like licorice! I am not a fan of licorice–the smell nor the taste. It must be the anise oil in this deodorant that exudes the licorice smell.
However, my personal preference in smell is no reason to not recommend this deodorant. If you happen to like licorice, I believe you will really take to this deodorant. If you compared this ingredient lists to a stick of deodorant from a big box grocery store, you’d buy this one in a heartbeat. All of these ingredients are familiar and plant based–and a lot of them are organic. What a refreshing thing to see another deodorant (I’ve only come across a handful of good ones that are also effective) that is aluminum free, paraben free and comprised of all natural ingredients.
Despite my distaste for anise, I tried out this deodorant and tested it out on a run outdoors. Funny enough, I knew this deodorant was working well because I continued to smell licorice throughout my run! 🙂 Again, I realize that A LOT of people love this scent. I would recommend this deodorant to THOSE people. It performed well for me, and I perspire profusely when I run in the heat, so that says something.

My Description & Thoughts:
I loved getting a sample of this product. My family does a lot of outdoor walking and hiking in addition to my daily runs. This bug spray has been much needed at times. An outing is just that much more enjoyable when you don’t have bugs buzzing around your face, biting you, etc. The bottle I received fit perfectly and conveniently into a pocket of my Camelbak. The larger bottle looks just as portable and would certainly fit easily into any pocket or pouch that would normally carry a water bottle.
I found this spray to be very effective! I didn’t have one worry about bugs biting me when I had it applied. I’m sure this is because Purple Prairie uses several potent essential oils, many of which are natural bug repellers. They get the job done and also leave a nice herbaceous, earthy scent on your skin and clothes. It doesn’t smell of chemicals at all, like many bug sprays do.
In addition to this awesome bug spray, Purple Prairie Botanicals makes several products specifically geared towards gardening (My Mom is a Master Gardener and I see these gardening lotions, salves and sprays to be perfect for her).
I think everyone needs some of this bug spray around. It’s a great for a family to have on hand to spray themselves, the kids and the pets before going outdoors. It will allow you to be worry-free about bugs and bug bites.
