My Thoughts:

When it comes to lip balm, I’ve tried some really awesome, organic and simple products. That’s how lip balm should be–not a complicated list of unrecognizable ingredients.

Waxelene was a unique lip balm product for me to try in that it is a spin on petroleum jelly, which I used as a teen for chapped lips and such. I love that waxelene’s ingredient list is clean, containing only: organic soy oil, beeswax, non-gmo vitamin e oil and organic rosemary oil. That’s a pretty great-looking set of ingredients.

Perhaps one of the best things about Waxlene (besides the organic ingredients) is the fact that it can be seen as a unisex product. Many lip balms have fantastic ingredients, but only appeal to women because of their fruity, sweet or tinted nature. Waxelene provides a great option for men, women, boys and girls alike.

I value Waxelene for being a portable, go-to lip balm that can even be used under lip color to keep lips moist and help the lip color apply evenly. It’s hard to beat a product that’s highly versatile, will please the whole family and has excellent, organic ingredients. I’m happy to have tried Waxelene and see more of it in my future.

Chia Derm Review

Chia Derm

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

About Chia Derm:

THE EVOLUTION OF THE CHIA PEOPLE, LLC

CHIA DERM+ SKIN AND HAIR CARE

Steven Jefferies discovered the miraculous health benefits of chia seeds while looking for a ‘superfood’ ingredient that would sustain him through long nights in law school studies and intense jujitsu training. At the dinner table one evening, Steven explained his findings to his aunt, Kelley Walker, as he poured chia seeds in water. Kelley listened to Steven talk about the endless benefits of the seeds as they formed a caviar type orb of hydration. As Kelley listened to the benefits, including extensive amounts of antioxidants, Omega-3 fatty acids, protein and dietary fiber, she thought, “Why wouldn’t this be beneficial for our skin and hair?”

She began experimenting in her kitchen and researching online when she discovered the unlimited benefits of chia seeds – for both ingesting and skin application. She came across a study conducted by The Korean University of Dermatology, which concluded that chia seed oil can be used as an adjuvant moisturizing agent for pruritic (itching) skin, including that of End-stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients. Chia seeds can be used for anti-aging, scars, hydration, healing and skin protection. With additional research, she found that the little seed contained Biotin, which strengthens hair and nails.

Kelley and Steven traveled to areas around the world known for growing chia seeds and uncovered additional medicinal uses for chia seed oil used for centuries. After spending time deep in the Amazon with medicine men and women and learning the healing benefits of botanicals, they returned home with a new purpose: to formulate products using natural ingredients with clinical results.

Once back home in Houston, Kelley and Steven sought out and partnered with a highly respected and experienced formulator. They spent three years tirelessly researching and testing different formulas featuring chia seeds as a main ingredient, until they created the perfect formula.
The family business began with the CHIA DERM+ Serum and Balm. After listening to the demand from our customers for more ways to incorporate chia seeds into their skin and hair care routines, future products are already on the way including a line of men’s products!”

My Thoughts:

I love the idea of a skin care brand that harnesses the nature-given healing benefits of the chia seed. I know chia seeds to be a healthy source of fiber, fat and plant based protein (when ingested). I am a big fan of putting superfoods on your face (in facial masks, etc.). If it’s good to eat, it’s likely good for your skin.

So, as most of my readers are well aware (I’m sure), I hone in on ingredients when it comes to skin care. That is of the utmost importance to me when forming my opinion about skin care products–not effectiveness, not packing. Ingredients. I really appreciate the junk-free ingredient lists of the balm and serum. The serum is the ultimate in simplicity, with one ingredient. Non-gmo, paraben free and “no harsh chemicals” is a good thing to see, and after inquiring with Chia Derm, I’ve learned that:

“the Chia Seeds are absolutely grown organically. The chia seed plant has no know pests and no chemicals are used. Also the facility that manufactures Chia-Derm products will only accept certified organic ingredients Into their facility.”

Organic is awesome. Organic chia skin care? Even more awesome.

As far as how these two products perform, they’re both very dense–a little goes a long way. I only use a few drops of the serum on my finger tips and a tiny amount of the balm. You can use them in combination (serum before balm) if your skin needs a hefty dose of hydration. My skin only needs one or the other, as I have combination/oily skin. It leaves my skin completely quenched, glowing and fresh. I like them best when used after a clarifying cleanser like facial soap.

My Thoughts:

My experience with herbal face food has been interesting. The first time I tried this serum (after cleansing), I distributed about a dime size of the serum onto my face and……WHOA. Major stinging and irritation. I was so confused. Well, I quickly learned a few things:

-I hadn’t read the FAQ section of their site to realize that this stoning sensation can occur.

-The ingredients contain clove oil (which I assume is similar to cinnamon–which leaves the same stinging sensation on the face, due to the fact that it brings blood to the surface of skin and rejuvenates it.)

-You do, indeed, need to shake up the mixture before using it. This will help equally distribute the oils.

So, the initial use was my own fault. I was ill-equipped (information wise) and I think I used too much. Synergies for Health also states that the stinging will be more intense for skin that needs the boost. I didn’t realize my skin needed it that bad–but I’m willing to accept that 🙂

The next few times I used this serum, I shook the bottle, only rubbed a few drops into my fingertips and then applied to my wet facial skin. This time, MUCH better. There is still a slight zing from this serum, but not painful at all. It feels nice and refreshing, actually.

The best part about this serum is the awesomely, entirely organic ingredients list. This stuff is truly pure. Ingredient-wise, this is a dream serum. Performance wise, it’s a dream serum as well. It feels like it helps balance the oil on my skin, and soothes blemishes if I have them. It feels like this serum does a whole lot of good to my skin, sans chemicals and junky ingredients.

I’d recommend this to someone looking for the real deal facial serum. This stuff is potent (and should be used as they suggest), but it performs wonderfully when done right. My skin feels boosted and glowy every time after using this herbal face food.

Estroblock Pro Triple Strength Pro Review + My Acne Journey

Estroblock Hormone Balancing Supplement

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

I love having this platform as an opportunity to share products that have literally changed my life. Estroblock has been the game changer for my hormonal, cystic acne that has plagued my face for years.

About Estroblock:

“Fight Acne

Estro Block clears toxic estrogens, while restoring good estrogens. Most acne is caused by toxic estrogen buildup. These synthetic estrogens also cause cancer.

Detoxify Hormones

Pesticides, pollution, high fat foods, and plastics of all types convert into these toxic cancer causing estrogens. Defend yourself with Estro Block

Reduce Fat

One of the most common symptoms of toxic estrogens is stubborn fat that just won’t go away. These synthetic estrogens cause fat to build up in a synthetic way that does not respond to natural methods for weight loss.

Estro Block Pro

Is 3x more potent than the original Estro Block!”

estrochart

estroblockpro

My Description & Thoughts on Estroblock:

I have tried MANY supplements in hopes that they would target and eliminate my acne (that I believed to be hormone related–and potentially caused by prior synthetic birth control use). There are so many products similar to Estroblock out there (as they depict in the above diagram) that are not as high of a dosage, are in a form that is not readily digested, or are not as high quality as Estroblock. Let me just cut to the chase and say this:

I believe that Estroblock (a non-gmo, plant derived supplement) is the single most effective supplement I’ve ever taken for my acne.

I have written a more in depth diary of my struggle with acne in an earlier post, which you can read here.

I did not document my skin progress month by month, but I did take a picture when first starting Estroblock–which shows the areas of my face that I struggled with most. (As embarrassing as it is to share, it’s worth it knowing that I might be helping someone progress on their own skin journey).

November 2013/Approx. May 2014

photo-1

Side Note: I was eating very sensibly and healthily and still struggled with these blemishes.

I realize that the lighting is different in each of these photos, and they are not the best side-by-side comparison. However, I can assure you that there’s a big difference. All I deal with now are acne scars and the occasional pimple or two from my menstrual cycle (which are few and far between).

Like I’ve suggested here, it has taken my skin (and hormones) several months to get back on track. It was not an immediate fix. It’s important to note, though, that most natural remedies that involve balancing hormones are never going to be a quick fix. Your body needs time to rebalance itself. This route is better than taking a prescription acne solution because it truly gets to the root of the problem and addresses it in a natural manner, rather than using chemicals to solve the problem in the short run.

I can’t recommend this product enough to those that struggle with hormonal acne–I’m so glad I discovered this product and I’m happy to share it with all of you. I would say that Estroblock Pro is the best bet for those that have acne that looks similar to mine (around the chin and jawline). You are likely to see more thorough results by taking the Pro version. Cost-wise, Estroblock is not cheap. It’s $39 dollars a bottle and that lasts you a month. HOWEVER, at the risk of sounding like I’m preaching–I have to say…This is an investment in your health (and for many, your confidence). To me, it is well worth the money. Many other cheaper brands that you will see are cheaper for a reason–they are not non-gmo. Also, once you get your hormones back on track, you are able to wean yourself back down to small dosage of Estroblock (especially if you are eating a clean, plant-rich diet).

My Description & Thoughts:

I have really looked forward to writing this post because these products have triggered me to have some pretty profound thoughts (profound for my mind).

Let me just say this. Obviously, I advocate organic skin care products and believe that they are, more often than not, the best route to take when trying to improve the health of skin. The tiny loophole I encountered throughout this entire process is that organic skin care products have not “cured” my acne. Even the priciest, most simple, organic products have not been the “cure-all.”

I believe that is because acne is not only effected by the outside of our body. Acne is a result of what is going on inside of our bodies. Diet, hormone imbalance and digestive issues seem to be common contributing factors to the presence of acne.

I digress a bit, but I wanted to share those thoughts (briefly) because Veronica Malibu products have triggered me to go down a path of truth finding when it comes to acne.

Ingredients aside, I found that using these products together on a daily basis (besides the microdermabrasion, which I used once a week) tackled the inflammation and redness that I was experiencing with my current blemishes. My skin appeared and felt smoother after doing this routine for about 2 weeks. I did find the blemish drying lotion to be unpleasantly fragrant, likely because of its sulfur content. My routine consisted of washing with the mint wash, dabbed the toner onto my entire face (focusing on the “T” zone), applying the Azulene cream all of my face, then applying the blemish drying lotion to problem areas. Each product had a nice consistency and did it’s job well.

But, not all of the ingredients are “perfect” and organic…. That really threw me for a loop. I truly felt torn. I thought, “here are products that are a result of Veronica’s many years in skin care—they are working in minimizing my acne—but they don’t have the cleanest ingredient list.” She does use several organic ingredients, but like I included earlier in this post, Veronica says,

“I do use some organic ingredients, but not all.  I come from a acne background and organic products don’t work on all types of acne.”

This made me scratch my head and really challenged me to have an open mind. 9 times out of 10 I would vehemently refuse to use pharmaceutical products, or products with “active” ingredients. I generally choose to seek the natural route to skin health.
Since I believe part of my acne problem has been a result of years on birth control, I’ve deemed my acne to be primarily caused by a hormonal imbalance. It’s almost like: because a drug could have caused or exasperated my acne, it might take something “stronger” to help break the cycle that my skin is in.
I have felt the need to recognize that pharmaceuticals just might have a place in skin care. I do not think that they truly cure the problem, but they seem that they can be a short term fix. I don’t see them as a great long term fix since they don’t tackle the underlying issue inside of your body.
Essentially, I couldn’t deny that the products were reducing the inflammation on my face, but I concluded that I, myself, would not be likely to establish a long term routine with these products.
If you are searching for a line of products that simply get the job done and are effective in minimizing the appearance of acne, then I would recommend these products. If you scrutinize ingredients lists and are weary about using anything less than completely pure, then I would say find another line of products that suites your requirements.
I had my eye on Veronica Malibu product for a few years and genuinely felt excited to try them. I REALLY wanted to love them in a whole way (effectiveness & ingredients). I do find them effective, and have opened my mind to understand that sometimes acne can be effectively treated by active ingredients that are not necessarily organic.
I hope that this post will help shed a bit more light on acne. I believe that Veronica is top-notch, was a joy to work and communicate with, was incredibly generous, and is extremely passionate about skin care.

*These complimentary products have been generously provided to me for the purpose of trying them in order to write a review on my experience.
