Erbaviva Organic Skin Care: Shaping Products Review

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

About Erbaviva:

“Erbaviva was born to bring the world a luxurious collection of the purest organic skincare products available.

With a passion for pure ingredients and their own children as inspiration, Robin Brown and Anna Cirronis created Erbaviva, a beautiful line of authentically organic skincare products for baby, mothers-to-be and everyone else.  The exclusive, handmade collection is Certified USDA Organic and Demeter Biodynamic.

In the defining spirit of voyagers, Robin and Anna were among the very first to seek out and source the highest quality organic ingredients possible for their original organic baby skincare line in 1996.  Desiring the healthiest, safest and most natural products for their newborn, the couple developed distinctively pure products, consciously crafted with ultimately nourishing living herbs and botanicals and free from harsh detergents, chemical fragrances and other unhealthy additives. Erbaviva was born.

Dedicated to bringing equally effective and synergistic organic skincare products to more than only the babies of the world, Erbaviva soon after created a line of premium pregnancy products, a luxuriant bath and body collection and superior, organic and wild crafted essential oils.  Organic luxury for everyone.

Erbaviva remains ever true to its originating philosophy of authenticity and enduring commitment to people and the environment with its products, manufacturing and global community service.  Erbaviva is a proud financial supporter of The Blink Now Foundation and its invaluable work to sustain and care for the lives of impoverished children in Nepal.  Since the founding of the company, Erbaviva has also been an integral part of an artisan project fund that provides direct financial benefit to the Pwo Karen hill tribe of Northern Thailand and Burma.  All of Erbaviva’s products are compassionately made by hand at the company’s own renewable energy powered facility in Southern California.  A Certified B Corporation, Erbaviva consistently implements and supports sustainable and environmentally responsible principles with every practice and partnership as possible.”

My Thoughts:

Zowwweeee! I love Erbaviva. That’s the simplest way I can put it. The integrity, quality, thought and beauty that goes into these products is not lost on me. Never, ever do I have to worry about anything-distantly-related-to-junk making its way onto my skin with Erbaviva. Knowing that there’s a brand like this out there (it’s one of few that really commit to incredible, organic ingredients–not just non-toxic ingredients) is refreshing, comforting and it something I’m driven to support.

The idea of “shaping” products was a new one to me. As usual with Erbaviva, the ingredients in the shaping salts and oil are stellar.

In the winter months, I try to reel in the frequency with which I exfoliate because my skin tends to dry out quicker. That said, I still feel a need to take care of the grime and build up on my skin that accrues after lots of sweaty workouts. That’s where the salts come in. I love that they help achieve glowing and minimize skin imperfections, but I would use it for the refreshing feeling alone. I make sure to follow up every shower (when I use the salts) with the shaping oil–this helps nourish and replenish my skin’s moisture. The use of ginger and pepper in the mixture is invigorating. Plus, pure organic oil just makes your skin glow! That is my single-favorite organic skin care item: body oil. It’s just such dense nourishment & I don’t ever have to worry about my skin reacting to it. Erbaviva oil blends are excellent in that you can tell they’ve concocted their products with thought and care–and it shows–my skin LOVES these products. The salt + oil routine is a must to get your skin (head-to-toe) summer ready!

As expected, I love the lip balm as well. It’s the perfect thickness–it provides sheen and moisture to your lips but also has some great staying power. I don’t find myself needing to reapply it many times throughout the day. The vanilla + grapefruit combination is genius–it’s a decadent piece of zesty heaven. It rocks!

You need some Erbaviva in your life if you believe in taking great care of your skin. They have an incredible thing going! (They also have products specifically formulated for babies and mommies!) 🙂

TastyFace Organics Skin Care Review: Part Deux

TastyFace Organics

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

I have been supremely lucky to have gained an organic beauty sister in Kelly, the founder of TastyFace. She’s a vibrant soul and a passionate woman–infectiously so. She also just so happens to make one of my very favorite lines of skin care (in my top 2!). Here are a couple other posts I’ve written on TastyFace products:

TastyFace Organics Skin Care Review (Must Have!)

You can use the coupon code “TFO4ROO10″ at checkout to save 10% on anything TastyFace!

These are the products that were new for me to try: (I have previously reviewed the Coconut Cream Cleanser–you can read my thoughts here!)

Blood Orange Vanilla Body Butter

“This is a a powerful butter.  Thick, rich, dense with moisture.  We combine organic shea, cocoa butter, coconut and sweet almond combine to create a powerfully moisturizing and nourishing all over body treat.  Finished with vanilla and blood orange essential oil to create a scent that’s quite simply a combo of creamiscle and chocolate.  Delicious. Your skin will soak it up!

(Please note:  Product consistency can vary depending on temperature.  Colder temps will lend to a hardened consistency – will soften at room temp.  Likewise, try to keep below 78 degrees to avoid melting!  *Just like butter.)

Ingredients:  Shea butter*, cocoa butter*, coconut oil*, sweet almond oil*, blood orange essential oil, jojoba oil*, vanilla extract*, essential oils*

*organic/high quality source

Directions for Use:  Slather on as you see fit – this is one that is completely up to personal preference.  It might seem oily/rich at first but it will absorb quickly, don’t fret.”

Tamanu + Grapefruit: Healing Serum

“Our serums are wildly popular for a reason.  They pack a powerful punch!  Designed specifically to address redness, acne, eczema, and other skin issues. Lighter in texture than moisturizer, but filled with nothing but the highest quality organic oils and essentials.  The healing serum is specifically formulated with tamanu oil – which is known for its ability to quickly heal cuts, abrasions, acne, and help reduce the appearance of redness and scarring. This is a lovely light moisturizing serum and can also be layered with other TastyFace products. (We recommend cleanser, toner, serum, then moisturizer!)

Ingredients:  jojoba oil*, tamanu oil*, sunflower oil*, evening primrose oil*, sea buckthorn oil*, calendula essential oil*, grapefruit essential oil*, essential oils*

*organic, high quality source

*Please note:  citrus essentials oils can increase photosensitivity, so be cautious in the sunlight (and use sunscreen!).”

Argan + Sweet Orange: Nourishing Serum

“The TASTYFACE nourishing serum:  Designed to soothe, moisturize, and smooth skin.  This is the serum to choose if you have especially dry skin or if you are concerned with the appearance of lines and tiredness.  Ultra high quality, organic argan oil combines with sea buckthorn, jojoba, and rosehip (to name a few) to deliver awesome and intense nourishment for your skin. Use alone or layered with moisturizer. Leaves skin refreshed, dewy, and happier!

Ingredients:  Jojoba oil*, argan oil*, rosehip oil*, sunflower oil*, evening primrose oil*, sea buckthorn oil*, sweet orange essential oil*, essential oils*

*organic, high quality sourced

*Please note:  citrus essentials oils can increase photosensitivity, so be cautious in the sunlight (and use sunscreen!).”

Sweet Orange Cream Lip Balm

“Our newest!  HUGE tin of lip love right here. Sweet orange combined with warm, comforting vanilla scent our classic balm recipe… coconut oil, cocoa and shea butters, sweet almond oil and beeswax.  Simple yet so awesomely effective on stubborn chapped lips!  And it just plain tastes amazing.  Having a hard time not licking my lips off over here.  Remember, our lip balms are a giant 1 ounce.  That’s about 4 times the size of normal balms!

Ingredients: coconut oil*, cocoa butter*, shea butter*, sweet almond oil*, beeswax, vitamin e* (from sunflower seed oil), sweet orange essential oil*, vanilla oleoresin, essential oils*

*organic/high quality source

Directions for use:  Apply liberally to lips.  Can also be used as a healing salve for various cuts and scrapes, or a cuticle softener. Replace lid tightly after using.  Balm is temperature dependent.  In cold temps, warm by rubbing a very clean finger on product.  In warmer temps, throw in fridge to re-solidify.  Do not leave out in the hot sun and please take caution when opening product on a warm day to avoid spills!”

My Thoughts:

I truly began to laugh to myself in beginning to write another piece on Tastyface. Why am I laughing? Because this could be a 4 word review: “Tastyface Organics freaking rocks!”

Let me just say, I have tried many brands of organic skin care (most of them not actually containing entirely organic ingredients–which in my opinion is an abuse of the word “organic”) and it is rare to find product lines:

1. Made in small batches.

2. Headed by an engaged, warm founder that is eager to help.

3. Is comprised of 100% organic ingredients.

No bull honkey. No tomfoolery. No bogus promises. TastyFace is the REAL deal.

As the name suggests, these products are incredible aromatic, intoxicating and the ingredients are good enough to eat. Kelly truly abides by the idea of “if you wouldn’t eat it, don’t put it onto your skin.”

Now for the these new products I got to try! These two serums are like summer dreams in a bottle. Not only are the ingredients organic and pure (as always, with Tastyface) but they soak into my skin perfectly. If you’re new to facial serums, don’t be afraid! Even if you have oily skin, nature’s oils are and should be your friend. Damaged skin needs moisture; it shouldn’t be deprived of it. Investing in a bottle of Tastyface serum will do so much more good for your skin than ANY bottle of chemical-filled acne-fighting cream. Chemicals don’t solve imbalances, organic skin care & a healthy diet do.

If I had to pick one of the two serums, I’d say the Tamanu + Grapefruit is my favorite. When I was in college a few years ago, Tamanu oil was one of the very first natural remedies I began to use on my blemished skin. I noticed the health of skin improving almost immediately. It felt better, I was more evenly complected and my skin just stopped freaking the bleep out. Tamanu oil might sound foreign, but your skin will love it.

The sweet orange lip balm was a product that our 6 year old was eyeing. She said “Ohhh orange cream!” It gives me so much peace of mind knowing that we have an organic lip balm for her that she loves. So many sticks of lip balm are riddled with junk. No junk here, just pure, sweet orange goodness. I was lucky that she was willing to share it with me so I could try it 🙂 This balm, along with the lemon rosemary balm by Tastyface is a balm recipe perfected. It’s the ideal consistency–soaks into your lips just enough but keeps them moist. It seems like so many lip balms with a cheap base ingredient don’t hang around on your skin for long (same for cheap, junky lotion), you apply it and then your skin is dry again in 10 minutes. I don’t have that problem with these lip balms. They rock!

It’s a good thing that my husband doesn’t regularly use body butter, because blood orange is his favorite! Blood orange kombucha, blood orange sparkling drinks–blood orange everything. This body butter is such a treat. These scent combinations that Kelly has come up with are simply brilliant. Blood Orange + Vanilla is a sublime coupling. Like in using body oils, I like to use this body butter right after showering, when my skin is still a bit damp. The water droplets help the body butter spread onto skin more easily (it also allows you to use less–so it will last longer!). It gives skin the perfect quench and such a pleasant smell. It’s SO redundant, but seriously, with every TastyFace product I try, I think: “Yep, Kelly has done it again–perfectly.”

If you haven’t read any of this review until right now, what I want you to leave with is the notion that you need to check out Tastyface!

Also, at any time you can use the coupon code “TFO4ROO10″ at checkout to save 10% on anything TastyFace!

Erbaviva Organic Skin Care Review

Erbaviva Organic Skin Care

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

About Erbaviva:

“Robin Brown and his wife Anna Cirronis, started Erbaviva in 1996 as a way to offer mommies-to-be and babies upscale products completely free from all harsh detergents, chemical fragrances, and other unhealthy additives.

Erbaviva’s first product was our unique, soap-less Baby Washbag – an unbleached cotton sachet, filled with organic oatmeal, organic milk and organic lavender flowers. Shortly after, we added a complete line of baby care products including an extra mild Baby Soap and Organic Baby Oil to create a complete authentically herbal and organic baby care collection.

Line Additions
Following the success of our baby care line, Erbaviva created an organic pregnancy collection that included everything a mommy-to-be could wish for during the nine months of pre-natal body care. Today we offer a wide range of products for the entire family with bath, body and true aromatherapy. Using the highest quality organic and wildcrafted essential oils, our products are freshly made with loving care through all stages of production at our own facility in Southern California.

Organic Ingredients
For us, being organic should be the conscious consumer’s expectation and the conscientious manufacturer’s doctrine. We only label our products “organic” on the front label if they contain more than 99% certified organic ingredients. Please look at our back labels where we list all of the ingredients and state which ones are organic. When we use botanical extracts we do so in therapeutic proportions. So much so that you will see that they affect the product color as their inclusion increases product efficacy. We are very proud of our ingredients labels; we encourage you to read them! more about organic or more about our ingredients.”

Lemon Sage Organic Deodorant Spray

Erbaviva’s Description:

“If you’re one who loves to feel fresh but recoils after a quick scan of the content label on most conventional deodorants, then our award winning Organic Deodorant is just the product for you. By blending organic extracts of Sage, Lemon, Patchouli, and Tea Tree Oils with organic grain alcohol, we’ve created a sweet smelling product that counteracts the growth of bacteria but doesn’t clog pores. *denotes certified organic ingredient. **denotes component of certified organic ingredient.”

My Description & Thoughts:

When products are this good, I feel that I do not need to write much, because I basically only have applause and no scrutiny. This deodorant smells wonderful–I wouldn’t think to put jasmine & grapefruit together, but they make for a flowery and zesty scent.

The spray feature is convenient prevent application from being messy. I find that two sprays under each arm is sufficient for all-day long. To maintain a pungent fresh smell, I would reapply once later in the day if I was a bit sweatier that day.

My husband uses the lemon & sage version of this product and has been very happy with it–and that it rare, as a lot of natural and/or organic deodorants I have asked him to try have not been sufficient in regards to longevity and effectiveness. I see us restocking these products when we are out! I recommend the “Jasmine & Grapefruit” to active gals and the “Lemon & Sage” for active guys. I believe even heavy sweaters will be pleased.

Breathe Body Lotion

Erbaviva’s Description:

“Use this wonderful potion throughout the day on hands and arms for a charge of fresh air. Used in conjunction with our Breathe Room & Body Spray the combination of pines, herbs, and leaves is the perfect antidote to indoor air conditioning, pollen season, and colds.

Water, *aloe barbadensis leaf juice, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, glyceryl stearate, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, glycerin, *beeswax, xanthan gum, algin, *rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, *theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, glyceryl stearate citrate, *simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, tocopherol, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, *picea excelsa (spruce) leaf oil, *cedrus deodara (cedar) wood oil, *eucalyptus globulus (eucalyptus) leaf oil, *thymus vulgaris (thyme) oil , *melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) leaf oil, *citrus medica limonum (lemon) peel oil.

*denotes certified organic ingredient.”

My Description & Thoughts:

Exceptional ingredients and nourishing components make this lotion awesome. What makes it even more awesome is the fact that I would describe the scent as unisex–making it perfect to put in a family bathroom for everyone to use.

One application on fresh, clean after showering keeps my skin hydrated all day long–with no goopy-ness or oiliness. I would recommend this to any lotion-seeking individual who wants a product that will suit the whole family.

Refreshing Organic Foot Balm

Erbaviva’s Description:

“NEW – Our new Refreshing Foot Balm doesn’t just smell great and warm the skin, it has essential oils of grapefruit and cypress to help stimulate circulation while relieving swollen feet with Ginger, Cypress and Lavender. Petroleum free and almost 100% organic, Mommy can rub in this Foot Balm several times a day.

Organic shea butter, organic sunflower seed oil, organic beeswax, organic grapefruit peel oil, organic cypress oil, organic lavander flower oil, organic sandalwood, organic ginger root extract, organic geranium flower oil, organic rosemary leaf extract.”

My Description & Thoughts:

This was the one product that was a new idea to me. I typically neglect my feet–which is a bit ironic as much as I run. My feet certainly needed some tender love. I started applying this in the evenings before bed (putting on socks after applying, so my feet could absorb it and I would make the carpet messy).

It moisturizes my dry, calloused feet, but it also feels to affect my whole body. Feet, just like the rest of our skin, absorbs what is on it. I’m sure the powerful essential oils in this balm benefit the rest of my body as well.

The scent of this balm is soothing, relaxing, and perfect for pre-bedtime. I see myself continuing this routine in the future.

I would recommend this product to anyone like me who neglects their feet and would benefit from some pampering.

*These complimentary products have been generously provided to me for the purpose of trying them in order to write a review on my experience.

Sequoia Beauty Organic Skin Care Review

Sequoia Beauty Organic Skin Care

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

Sequoia Beauty is a brand that came to my attention in a search for high quality, unique and effective facial serums. Upon further exploration of their website, I quickly learned that they make way more than serums, and those products stack up nicely. On a most pertinent note, these ingredient lists are top notch! All sequoia products are entirely comprised of organic and locally grown ingredients. As Laurel mentions below, this is rare.

There are a plethora of brands available even with “organic” in the name that are not entirely organic. While containing organic ingredients in a certain percentage is commendable and is a step in the right direction, brands like Sequoia are in the upper echelon of the organic beauty world. I am wildly impressed with your mission and products, Laurel!

I always enjoy reading about the beginnings of organic beauty brands, because they seem to have passionate roots. This brand is no exception, and was especially enjoyable for me to read. So, I thought it best that I share. Here is a little background about Sequoia:

“Sequoia Beauty is an organic flower and herb based skin care line with an emphasis on local ingredients. The products cater to the needs of your skin, as well as your own physical and spiritual well-being. Sequoia Beauty started as a result of seeing how mainstream beauty products can affect people’s health. They drastically affect hormone levels (including estrogen, thyroid, cortisol, and many others), liver toxicity, digestion, lymph and immune systems, stress levels, and so much more. I realized that if skin care can do that much damage; imagine what it can do for wellness!

No chemicals, parabens, or artificial fragrances are ever used, and nothing is synthetic – just organic locally grown flowers, herbs, hydrosols, and cold-pressed organic oils all formulated together with your well-being and beautiful skin in mind. Some plants are grown organically in my own garden; most are from bay area certified organic farmers, and others wild-harvested throughout the beautiful California hillsides. Your energy and well-being are thought of throughout the entire process; from the garden, to the SB studio, to your skin.

What most people don’t know is that putting toxins and carcinogens on their face everyday for years is actually AGING them! Most ‘anti-aging‘ solutions are based on antioxidants. However, when these antioxidants are present in formulas with chemical toxins and carcinogens, it is doing a lot more harm than good. In addition to being sustainable, organic, and holistic; ALL Sequoia Beauty products contain herbs that stimulate collagen production, promote cell regeneration and reproduction, tighten and firm pores and cell structure, are loaded with antioxidants, promote anti-inflammatory pathways, encourage detoxing and waste elimination on a cellular level, heal and repair damaged tissue, and so much more!

As we are awakening and learning where our food comes from, this is the time to also be present to where our skin care comes from. Skin care, like food, can and should also be raw, organic, vegan, local, handcrafted, and made with love. Using Sequoia Beauty is making a statement that you support your own health, your own beautiful skin, and a local community that is committed to a greener healthier future.

Light and Love,

About the Founder: Laurel
“Herbalist and skin care specialist Laurel Shaffer has been in awe of the world of Holistic Healing since she first found it existed. Always seeking out new forms of healing, she is inspired by how even the energy of healing from one person to another can result in miracles.

While studying physiology and how it interconnects with the world of Western herbs at California School of Herbal Studies, she developed her unknown gift and love for chemistry and science. In her move to Northern California, she also discovered her passion for farming, organics, and good old fashioned dirt.

So how does skin care tie in to all this holistic and organic stuff??? Well, as Laurel got more into what we put into our bodies, she started to consider what we put on our bodies as well. The skin is the largest organ in the body, and the amount of toxins it’s exposed to just by living how we do can be overwhelming. So why would we be giving it more toxins when we could be doing the opposite? All these plants are filled with vitamins, nutrients, antioxidants, essential fatty acids – and all sorts of other goodies that are crucial building blocks to healthy skin and a healthy body.

Laurel believes that not only can your skin care heal your skin, but it can heal YOU. Your liver, your immune system, keep your hormones balanced…and the light and love put into her lines and formulations makes for a healthy spirit, too.”

Nourish Serum

Sequoia’s Description:

“For all skin types, use our antioxidant serum, Nourish, in the place of a regular cream moisturizer, or in addition to one for drier skin types. Nourish has over 30 organic plants all working for your skin in different ways… plants to stimulate collagen production like Gotu Kola, to reduce sun damage like Sea Buckthorn, to encourage healthy cell reproduction like Comfrey, Calendula for damaged cellular structure and dna damage, and many lipid rich oils filing in fine lines. Nourish Serum contains plants linked to sun protection like Red Raspberry Seed oil, Cranberry Seed oil, and Jojoba. You’ll find plants loaded with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and EFAs; like Nettle, Borage, and Rosehip.  SB’s Nourish is plants that contain the building blocks to healthy skin – the perfect blend of nature and science. Every plant in Nourish is in its purest possible form. Nourish is hands down Mother Nature at her best, and is a favorite amongst Sequoia Beauty lovers! 1oz.

My Description & Thoughts:

I am very happy with this serum. I can see myself keeping this around for daily use morning and night. It does not leave my skin goopy at all, rather, hydrated and healthy. The ingredients in this serum are a delight to read. They are clean, recognizable and are all components that I have come to know are great at nourishing and healing skin. All of these oils in combination make for an earthy and zesty scent. Scents like this are fantastic because the men in your home can use it too without fearing that his skin will smell girly. 🙂

Eye Dream

Sequoia’s Description:

Rosehip seed oil and Sea Buckthorn oil, both containing high amounts of vit C, have been linked to collagen stimulation and prolonged life of collagen. Bilberry, Fennel and Nettle, which are very specific to the delicate eye area, reduce puffiness, fluid retention and dark circles. Licorice is also helping to reduce inflammation. The plants in this cream have an abundance of vitamins and minerals, such as vitamins A,C,E, and K, and are also high in carotenes ideal for the eye area. My Description & Thoughts:

If there is one thing I neglect on my face, it is my eyes. I have never regularly used an eye cream of any sort. I was excited to get my hands on this product and do some pampering of the skin around my eyes.

I apply Eye Dream to all of the skin surrounding my eye socket prior to bedtime. I provide nourishment and moisture to the rest of my facial skin, so why neglect my eyes? This product has made me see that perhaps an eye product is a great thing.

In the morning after applying this, it seems as though the puffiness below my eyes is reduced and my eyes look more awake. Great ingredients seem to be synonymous with Sequoia’s skin care, as this product is comprised of a whole lot of goodness.

Purify & Release Cream Cleanser

Sequoia’s Description:

*These ingredients are raw/cold processed/unrefined, certified organic or biodynamic, and non-gmo. **These ingredients are the safest available natural ingredients, and are Ecocert approved for organic skin care.”

My Description & Thoughts:

This cleanser does a great job of cleaning my skin without stripping it of all moisture. Certain cleansers/soaps I reach for after a sweaty run or workout, but this cleanser is a product that I would use when my skin just needs a moderate cleaning job.

Like the serum, this cleanser has a “unisex” type of scent to it. It is earthy and not too pungent. You can tell after smelling it that these ingredients are hearty and from natural sources. Another great Sequoia product.

Antioxidant Renewal Mask

Sequoia’s Description:

“The Antioxidant mask is suitable for all skin types.  It uses mineral rich Rhassoul clay, which is nutritive and gently detoxifying, but it will not dry out the skin. This mask focuses on the rejuvenating power of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants from flowers, plants, and fruits.  Since most people have no idea what sorts of vitamins and mineral their bodies are lacking, this malnourishment shows up on the skin, and eventually leads to inflammation, breakouts, and accelerated aging. The nutrients, trace minerals, and antioxidants found in Nettle, Acai, Noni, and Melissa can truly give anyone’s skin a healthy beaming glow.  The luxurious scent of Jasmine and Ylang Ylang only takes a backseat to its ability to rejuvenate the skin. Like other SB masks, this mask is dry and powdered to best preserve its pure and fresh ingredients. Simply mix with water each use and apply. For easiest application use a brush; and use a couple drops of serum to prevent the mask from drying fully. 2oz

Ingredients:  Rhassoul Clay**, Noni Fruit*, Acai Berry*, Nettle*, Dandelion Leaf*, Echinacea*, Red Clover*, Fennel*, Melissa*, and Essential Oils of Jasmine* and Ylang Ylang* *Each ingredient is organic or biodynamic, and the clay is wild crafted.”

My Description & Thoughts:

I have an affinity for masks, often times. I love gooping up my face with a concoction chock full of ingredients that feed and heal my skin. Because of that, I was most excited about trying Sequoia masks.

I love the tip of adding serum to prevent the mask from drying–I hadn’t thought of that. Sometimes, masks can get dry and flake off. Adding the serum would prevent that from happening.

Thought this mask has a ton of great ingredients besides clay, I find that the clay is the main thing you smell and feel. It really feels like the mask is doing a great job of anti oxidizing and detoxifying my skin. It feels renewed after I wash it off of my face. Wonderful mask concoction Sequoia has here!

Honey Berry Enzyme Mask

Sequoia’s Description:

“For most skin types; ranging from mildly sensitive to mature to combination skin. This mask is a true favorite amongst Sequoia Beauty fans. One of its primary ingredients is Raw Royal Jelly.  Royal Jelly is a bee secretion, that is well known for its anti-aging abilities. It is high in Vit B and is considered a super antioxidant!  The enzymes found in raw fruits and raw honey are exfoliating, without manual exfoliation. Organic Strawberries and Blueberries are used for their enzyme and cleansing actions as well as their antioxidant content. Raw honey is nutritive, hydrating and plumping, is antimicrobial to help control breakouts, and the list goes on!  Essential oil of Grapefruit adds a light citrus scent to this already fruity blend. 2oz

Ingredients:  Raw Honey*, Raw Royal Jelly*, Raw Strawberries*, Raw Blueberries*, and White Grapefruit Essential Oil* *Each ingredient is organic, raw, and local to the bay area.”

My Description & Thoughts:

This mask had me at HONEY! I am a huge proponent of the benefits and healing abilities of raw honey. The honey in this mask, along with the other fruity goodies makes for quite a sweet experience! It smells delicious–I had to resist the urge to eat it with a spoon! It smells like honey mixed with fruity jelly.
For my skin, this mask does great things. The honey is hydrating, which prevents me from needing to finish with a serum/moisturizer. Honey has a wonderful way of holding a mask together, thus, the mask stays on great and is easy to wash off after you break the honey barrier. 🙂
I use this mask most on days when my skin needs a moisture boost, whereas I use the antioxidant mask on days when perhaps my pores feel clogged. Both phenomenal products with impressive ingredient lists. I’ve discovered such a remarkable brand in Sequoia! I look forward to being a customer for a long time to come.

Homemade Natural Deodorant Using Organic Ingredients

I’ve been hearing so much lately about essential oils but I’m a novice when it comes to using them.

Homemade, Natural, Organic Deodorant

My mom shared with me that a friend of hers started making her own, natural, homemade deodorant–something I have considered in the past.

She was using essential oils and coconut oil (the single most useful item in my beauty cabinet/pantry) as two of the ingredients in her recipe.

I wanted to finally make my own!

There’s probably no cute way to say it:

When I run, I sweat. A lot.

It seems like I sweat more than most. Especially outside in the heat, there is no avoiding it. I welcome the sweat and wear it as a badge and proof of my hard work. However, I have no desire to get super stinky and offend others with my stench.

I have been using organic and natural deodorant for a while now (a few years), but It’s neat to know that I can also make my own at home.

As I have aforementioned in past posts, I am 0% a fan of recipes. Maybe even more like -10% a fan of recipes. I just don’t like them. Planning, for me, takes away the fun. I want to wing it. So I wung it. (Wung?) 🙂

If you like to wing it, too, then read this, store it in your mind, but then set it aside when you make your first batch. You might enjoy it more that way.

The deodorant I’ve created contains 4 ingredients:

1. Essential oil

-I used grapefruit here. You can choose any scent you like. For men’s deodorant, try a sandalwood/patchouli combination.

2. Coconut Oil

3. Baking Soda

4. Arrowroot Powder

-In one bowl, stir together the baking soda and arrowroot powder.

-In a separate bowl, combine the coconut oil (might have to melt it first depending on your room temperature) and desired essential oil(s).

-Mix the wet mixture into the dry mixture and stir (and adjust wet/dry comob if needed to achieve desired consistency)

-Store in a jar or recycled deodorant stick in your beauty cabinet.
