Hoo Rag: The Better Bandana Review

This is a review of the Hoo Rag, the better bandana.

Hoo Rag

About Hoo Rag:

“Hoo-rags are revolutionary headwear that are worn by hundreds and thousands of male and female outdoor enthusiasts and athletes all over the world. If you’re just seeing the Hoo-rag, click the “Watch Video” button below for a quick run through of the most popular ways to Rock the Rag. Below we also have a few of the most popular ways you can wear yours, but in reality you can use your Hoo however you want. We have seen and heard of some pretty crazy ways people have used their Hoo-rags out in the real world. The Hoo-rag is made of 100 percent polyester microfiber that wicks away moisture and protects you from the suns harmful rays! Rated to 30 UPF.”

My Thoughts:

I’m always stoked to link up with brands that support getting outside & breaking a sweat. The Hoo Rag is awesome for whatever outdoor activity you partake in. The material itself is a bit thin & moisture wicking, making it the perfect warmer-temp headband for me to wear while running outside.

I don’t see it as a replacement for a gaiter or ear warmer since the material is not suitable for super cold temps. I love that theres plenty of material there, with which I can make a nice, wide headband. It keeps all of my baby hairs out of my face + it can slide down onto your neck seamlessly for easy versatility, though I don’t imagine needing to use it as a face cover.

I find that it seems to stay put pretty well, but I would like it a tiny bit snugger if I had to pinpoint one critique.

The vibrant pattern and color is so fun–I love this shade of blue. I’d recommend the Hoo Rag to all of my crazy running freak friends!

My Thoughts:

YogiToes, a line under the Manduka Yoga umbrella, is a unique, vibrant, fun set of yoga gear and accessories that are made thoughtfully and with recycled, high-performing materials.

I love a great, wide, everyday headband that will stay on after vigorous activity. The headbands I’ve worn in the past that perform the best have a grippy strip on the underneath side, helping it resist movement. Though this headband does not have a grippy strip, it is wide enough to pretty much compensate for that. The material is very comfortable (94% cotton) and can truly make the perfect headband for wearing around the house, during yoga or for a run outdoors, alike. If I had to make one change to the design of the band, I’d make the circumference a little bit smaller so that the headband fits a little snugger (I would only want it snugger for workouts; not for wearing around the house). I didn’t have a problem with it wiggly back and off my head while running, but that was primarily because I wear large over-the-head headphones when I run that help keep my headband in place. While wearing this headband to volleyball practice with the team I coach, I noticed that I had to reposition the band a few times as it had slid backwards.

A good BPA-free, durable, portable water bottle is something that is very much a part of my daily commutes to work and practice. I always have filtered water around–it’s an absolute necessity. This stainless steel water bottle is a good size (holds 25 fluid oz.), fits all of my car cup holders and backpack bottle pockets and is substantial enough that I can drop it without fearing that it will be damaged. I like that you can drink out of the nozzle or unscrew the lid and drink out of the open bottle. Sometimes I like the lid-off approach when I am amidst a hard workout and feel the need to guzzle water.

I’d recommend both of these products (as well as Manduka’s yoga mats! I use mine for indoor workouts–so don’t think its use is limited to yoga). The quality is there, the sustainability is there and so it the personality behind the products.

About Yoga Smoga:

“Honoring the tenets of Yoga, we aspire to create world-class products.
Growing up in the Himalayas, the birthplace & capital of Yoga, our founders instinctively
infuse the timeless principles, spirit and practice of Yoga into everything we do. From our
cosmopolitan aesthetic, to our product technology, right down to creating our very own way
to give back, we’ve meticulously designed every part of the whole, one breath at a time.

IMAGINE IT AS A PRACTICE, A WAY OF BEING: BUILDING A PATHWAY TO GREATER GOOD

We take the stand that physically, mentally, and emotionally Karma works in harmony with innovation, so that technology becomes a pathway to greater good. In the act of balancing science with spirituality you cause a chemical reaction that can promote something as great as change. Connecting, interacting and creating a positive impact beyond the Yoga mat.

We engineer, design, and manufacture fabrics that do more than cover someone up. They open them up to greater good. While we work with the most technically advanced fabric and manufacturing technologies, we also pursue a relentless focus on the deep traditions of Yoga. We embody the soul of Yoga and instinctively embed this into everything we create, including investing much time into creating the NAMASKÁR FOUNDATION.

WE MAKE THINGS FROM THE HEART AND WITH LOVEFOR WHEREVER LIFE TAKES YOU

A lot of people think of themselves as clothing companies who sell Yoga apparel. We think of ourselves differently. We are a Yoga and wellness company that makes things for life. Our focus is not on building a brand; our goal is to have a love affair with our consumers. We create our products from the heart and with love and we want everyone to feel that. We are building YOGASMOGA from the ground up with a purpose and passion and our products reflect this love and care.

We strive to become your partner in the pursuit of wellness–wherever you are today and wherever you are going tomorrow. From Yoga class, to the gym, to life. Whether you’re on the go, or simply being, we’re happy to be with you. We hope to bring a little more Yoga into your journey, Everyday.

A BIT MORE ABOUT USJOY, ENERGY AND BALANCE

Staying true to the spirit of Yoga, everything we create intends to balance the joy of life with the energy required to live it. Take our name as an example, in Hindi, it’s traditional to rhyme words and similar items-so our name is a jubilant nod of respect to our culture.

To combine that joy with energy, our iconic logo is based on traditional symbology that conveys a balanced and powerful energy center. We see this as a beautiful metaphor for our human experience.”

Run Jump n Play Crop

About:

“Run Faster. Jump Higher. Play harder. Whatever your game is, this cropped pant instantly transforms you into a stunning vision of curves and strength. So no matter what you’re getting into you’ll look good getting there.”

My Thoughts:

Seriously. Love. Yoga Smoga. The amazing thing is that I’ve only had to try to different Yoga Smoga pieces to delineate this brand from the rest. You can truly feel and see the quality in these products–they are designed and meant to endure vigorous exercise.

Specifically, the fabric of the Run Jump n Play crops is substantial enough to keep everything in the right place, so to speak. It is flattering on the bum and the waistline stays put, which I’ve had issues with in the past with workout pants.

Simply put, I could just very quickly tell that Yoga Smoga doesn’t mess around. Yoga Smoga knows workout apparel and they do it right. I would purchase their entire line if my bank account would allow it. I also love how unique their designs are. They have unique detailing on some of their workout pants and I like how they make themselves different from every other workout pant that looks the same. These black crops that I’ve been lucky enough to try may look simple–and perhaps the idea of them is–but I love that they have their detailing on the back of the pant, while also still allowing these pants to be so versatile; as they can match and go with anything. What sets them apart, too, from every other black pant is the fit. They are snug, flattering and stay put. I can’t ask for a whole lot more in a pant than that.

I love the vibrant color of the Verdi headband and the width of it. I rarely workout without a headband, and this one has quickly made its way into the regular headband rotation. It’s snug enough to stay put (thus far) during my runs, workouts and volleyball practice, but it will inch back on my head a little bit over time. I think this could be helped by having a grippy strip on the under head of the headband. Fortunately, though, it’s not a huge issue since it’s designed well (is tight and wide).

I’d tell anyone who normally goes to Lululemon or similar high end fitness apparel stores to take break from those all-too-common looks and explore a brand that has a beautiful, unique thing going. Yoga Smoga leaves so many other nice fitness apparel brands in the dust on looks, quality and fit. Ohh! AND they make men’s apparel! Woop!
