About Chia Derm:

THE EVOLUTION OF THE CHIA PEOPLE, LLC

CHIA DERM+ SKIN AND HAIR CARE

Steven Jefferies discovered the miraculous health benefits of chia seeds while looking for a ‘superfood’ ingredient that would sustain him through long nights in law school studies and intense jujitsu training. At the dinner table one evening, Steven explained his findings to his aunt, Kelley Walker, as he poured chia seeds in water. Kelley listened to Steven talk about the endless benefits of the seeds as they formed a caviar type orb of hydration. As Kelley listened to the benefits, including extensive amounts of antioxidants, Omega-3 fatty acids, protein and dietary fiber, she thought, “Why wouldn’t this be beneficial for our skin and hair?”

She began experimenting in her kitchen and researching online when she discovered the unlimited benefits of chia seeds – for both ingesting and skin application. She came across a study conducted by The Korean University of Dermatology, which concluded that chia seed oil can be used as an adjuvant moisturizing agent for pruritic (itching) skin, including that of End-stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients. Chia seeds can be used for anti-aging, scars, hydration, healing and skin protection. With additional research, she found that the little seed contained Biotin, which strengthens hair and nails.

Kelley and Steven traveled to areas around the world known for growing chia seeds and uncovered additional medicinal uses for chia seed oil used for centuries. After spending time deep in the Amazon with medicine men and women and learning the healing benefits of botanicals, they returned home with a new purpose: to formulate products using natural ingredients with clinical results.

Once back home in Houston, Kelley and Steven sought out and partnered with a highly respected and experienced formulator. They spent three years tirelessly researching and testing different formulas featuring chia seeds as a main ingredient, until they created the perfect formula.
The family business began with the CHIA DERM+ Serum and Balm. After listening to the demand from our customers for more ways to incorporate chia seeds into their skin and hair care routines, future products are already on the way including a line of men’s products!”

My Thoughts:

I love the idea of a skin care brand that harnesses the nature-given healing benefits of the chia seed. I know chia seeds to be a healthy source of fiber, fat and plant based protein (when ingested). I am a big fan of putting superfoods on your face (in facial masks, etc.). If it’s good to eat, it’s likely good for your skin.

So, as most of my readers are well aware (I’m sure), I hone in on ingredients when it comes to skin care. That is of the utmost importance to me when forming my opinion about skin care products–not effectiveness, not packing. Ingredients. I really appreciate the junk-free ingredient lists of the balm and serum. The serum is the ultimate in simplicity, with one ingredient. Non-gmo, paraben free and “no harsh chemicals” is a good thing to see, and after inquiring with Chia Derm, I’ve learned that:

“the Chia Seeds are absolutely grown organically. The chia seed plant has no know pests and no chemicals are used. Also the facility that manufactures Chia-Derm products will only accept certified organic ingredients Into their facility.”

Organic is awesome. Organic chia skin care? Even more awesome.

As far as how these two products perform, they’re both very dense–a little goes a long way. I only use a few drops of the serum on my finger tips and a tiny amount of the balm. You can use them in combination (serum before balm) if your skin needs a hefty dose of hydration. My skin only needs one or the other, as I have combination/oily skin. It leaves my skin completely quenched, glowing and fresh. I like them best when used after a clarifying cleanser like facial soap.

Green Pasture Butter Oil/Fermented Cod Liver Oil Blend Review

Green Pasture

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

About Green Pasture:

“Green Pasture Products™ is a family owned business started by Dave and Barb Wetzel in 2000. Our business focus is to provide high-quality sacred-food oils just as they were made prior to the industrialized food and farming revolution.

High-Vitamin Butter Oil is our foundation product that all our work has blossomed through. Dr. Weston Price discovered High-Vitamin Butter Oil back in the 1930’s but the pinnacle of his discovery was when he combined Cod Liver Oil with High-Vitamin Butter Oil.

Today we produce the High-Vitamin Butter Oil, and we ferment the historically sacred cod and skate liver oils.
Fermenting the livers of fish to extract the oil is an old world practice that may go back as far as biblical times. During the 1850s was the beginning of the industrial food revolution and the first time cod liver oil manufacturing changed from it’s historical sacred roots to an industrialized food.

We’ve turned back the clock and restored these sacred foods to their roots. We Are proud to offer these historical sacred foods prepared with the same great care and concern for our generational health just as our ancestors.

Dr. Price traveled the world studying the traditional diets of many cultures. In every culture he discovered sacred foods that were carefully collected and prepared to ensure the strong mind, body, and spirit of its people.

Certifications:

OMRI Organic Certification: OMRI lists several of our fish by-products as suitable for use on organic land and farms. Some of the products they certify include Liquid Fish Soil Rescue and Feed Grade Cod Liver Oil.

Raw Milk Farming: There has been a great deal of attention drawn to our family’s use of raw milk on the land, pastures and crops. By working with the University of Nebraska Extension we have completed one replicated study. Some of the observations include: substantial plant growth with a single application of raw skim milk, improved plant health, insecticide effects, soil porosity increased, possible fungus and mold control, and happy cows. For more information on this work, please read various blogs on our website, search out publications, or call either our office or the University of Nebraska Knox county extension office.

Butter Oil/Fermented Cod Liver Oil Blend Non-Gelatin Capsules

“Dr. Weston A. Price discovered High Vitamin Butter Oil in the 1930’s. The pinnacle of his X-Factor discovery was the extreme synergistic effect between High Vitamin Butter Oil and traditional cod liver oil. “One without the other did not do his patients justice, but the two together worked like magic”.

X-Factor Gold™ High Vitamin Butter Oil is made from dairy oil extracted without heat from cows that eat 100% rapidly growing grass. The speed of the grass growth, timing of the grazing of this grass, species of grass, climate and extraction method are all important to make real X-Factor Gold™ High Vitamin Butter Oil.

The Blue Ice™ Fermented Cod Liver Oil brings us back in time, when cod liver oil was truly a sacred food. The Blue Ice™ Fermented Cod Liver Oil is lacto-fermented and extracted without heat. The fish are wild caught in the Arctic region.

The combination of these attributes provides our community with a pure, clean and nutrient rich sacred food.

Blue Ice™ Royal offers our community a nutrient dense sacred food blend of 1/3 X-Factor Gold™ High Vitamin Butter Oil and 2/3 Blue Ice™ Fermented Cod Liver Oil.”

My Thoughts:

I sought out to get my hands on this butter oil/fermented cod oil blend after reading in several online health sources that cod liver oil might be a helpful supplement for those that suffer with acne and skin imperfections. The butter oil was appealing to me because I have always had an interest in the benefits of raw butter (how nutrient dense it is & how good of a source of good fats it is). I have recently had a peaked interest in butter oil for the specific purpose of maintaining optimum oral health and helping keep my teeth healthy through my diet.

After researching many brands or fermented cod liver oil that you can find at your local health food store, I’m deemed this combo the ultimate, high quality supplement for someone looking for the benefits of butter oil and fermented cod liver oil. I’m not sure that you can find many (if any) other brands that offer this combination in capsule form.

This supplement has been a part of a low-gluten, low-dairy, organic skin care regimen and my skin has never looked or felt healthier. The same goes for my teeth. I feel confident that is because of the healthy diet I consume and the added help of this supplement to really cement my results,

I believe that high quality supplements like this one can help fill the gaps in your diet (if any). If you truly eat a well balanced diet, I would still deem it beneficial to you. I’d say anyone can benefit from getting a regular dose of healthy, healing fats such at those found in Green Pasture’s Butter Oil/Fermented Cod Oil blend.

Estroblock Pro Triple Strength Pro Review + My Acne Journey

Estroblock Hormone Balancing Supplement

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

I love having this platform as an opportunity to share products that have literally changed my life. Estroblock has been the game changer for my hormonal, cystic acne that has plagued my face for years.

About Estroblock:

“Fight Acne

Estro Block clears toxic estrogens, while restoring good estrogens. Most acne is caused by toxic estrogen buildup. These synthetic estrogens also cause cancer.

Detoxify Hormones

Pesticides, pollution, high fat foods, and plastics of all types convert into these toxic cancer causing estrogens. Defend yourself with Estro Block

Reduce Fat

One of the most common symptoms of toxic estrogens is stubborn fat that just won’t go away. These synthetic estrogens cause fat to build up in a synthetic way that does not respond to natural methods for weight loss.

Estro Block Pro

Is 3x more potent than the original Estro Block!”

My Description & Thoughts on Estroblock:

I have tried MANY supplements in hopes that they would target and eliminate my acne (that I believed to be hormone related–and potentially caused by prior synthetic birth control use). There are so many products similar to Estroblock out there (as they depict in the above diagram) that are not as high of a dosage, are in a form that is not readily digested, or are not as high quality as Estroblock. Let me just cut to the chase and say this:

I believe that Estroblock (a non-gmo, plant derived supplement) is the single most effective supplement I’ve ever taken for my acne.

I have written a more in depth diary of my struggle with acne in an earlier post, which you can read here.

I did not document my skin progress month by month, but I did take a picture when first starting Estroblock–which shows the areas of my face that I struggled with most. (As embarrassing as it is to share, it’s worth it knowing that I might be helping someone progress on their own skin journey).

Side Note: I was eating very sensibly and healthily and still struggled with these blemishes.

I realize that the lighting is different in each of these photos, and they are not the best side-by-side comparison. However, I can assure you that there’s a big difference. All I deal with now are acne scars and the occasional pimple or two from my menstrual cycle (which are few and far between).

Like I’ve suggested here, it has taken my skin (and hormones) several months to get back on track. It was not an immediate fix. It’s important to note, though, that most natural remedies that involve balancing hormones are never going to be a quick fix. Your body needs time to rebalance itself. This route is better than taking a prescription acne solution because it truly gets to the root of the problem and addresses it in a natural manner, rather than using chemicals to solve the problem in the short run.

I can’t recommend this product enough to those that struggle with hormonal acne–I’m so glad I discovered this product and I’m happy to share it with all of you. I would say that Estroblock Pro is the best bet for those that have acne that looks similar to mine (around the chin and jawline). You are likely to see more thorough results by taking the Pro version. Cost-wise, Estroblock is not cheap. It’s $39 dollars a bottle and that lasts you a month. HOWEVER, at the risk of sounding like I’m preaching–I have to say…This is an investment in your health (and for many, your confidence). To me, it is well worth the money. Many other cheaper brands that you will see are cheaper for a reason–they are not non-gmo. Also, once you get your hormones back on track, you are able to wean yourself back down to small dosage of Estroblock (especially if you are eating a clean, plant-rich diet).

How Taking a Break from Coffee (and all Caffeine) Can Help You

coffee caffeine java drink

I can earnestly say I never thought I would take a break from drinking coffee. I would deem myself an absolute coffee connoisseur. I come from a family who drinks it daily, and in many ways it is a favorite past time of mine. I love grinding the beans, how it smells, the sound of it brewing…..all of it.

That said, I am never above tweaking my diet (or at least trying it for a while) if I believe it could improve my health in a significant way. I have had issues with what I call “sleep eating” for several years. As silly as it sounds, I am notorious for waking up in the middle of the night to grab a snack or make a meal in the kitchen. I often do not even remember doing this, until I wake up with peanut butter on the edge of my lip (no joke). I had contemplated several things: Do I not eat enough during the day? Do I have a “disorder”? What can I do to stop this from happening?

I started feeling disappointed in myself because I felt I was taking a few step backwards with these “sleep eating” episodes, after eating so remarkably well during the day. I got to a certain point where I just accepted that maybe it’s just a funny thing about me…until it occurred to me that eliminating coffee was something I hadn’t tried yet.

Cutting out coffee was something that I was not excited about. The tough thing to realize was that I just might need to try this in order to tackle this issue. In my mind, I figured that since caffeine can affect sleep, it could be playing a part in this problem.

So, I bit the bullet and started weaning myself off of coffee. Over a week’s time, I gradually decreased the amount I was drinking, starting at one full cup and drinking a bit less each day until I only had one gulp. As you can imagine, I had a noticeable headache for the next 2 days. I noticed I was a little cranky and lacking my normal motivation. Thankfully, after the full week of weaning, I felt like myself again. I felt like I didn’t need the coffee to get going.

Since ending the weaning process (it’s been almost a week), I haven’t had one incident in which I found myself in the kitchen in the middle of the night. This has been incredibly encouraging to me!

Quitting coffee for the time being has also been dual purposed. In doing this, I hoped to also get an idea if detoxing the caffeine out of my system would help my facial skin to be clearer. I have always struggled with acne and have also drank coffee since I was a teenager. I thought that the acne could perhaps be triggered or worsened by the excessive caffeine.

In summation, here’s what I have experienced thus far with the measures I’ve taken:

1. Quitting coffee to prevent “sleep eating” and encourage my body to sleep soundly throughout the night:

-I found that this, so far, has helped solve my problem completely! Perhaps, sleeping optimally throughout the night has helped my body to truly rest and not go after food.

2. Quitting coffee to help clear up acne and blemishes:

-I have certainly seen a difference in how certain problem areas on my face are less inflamed. They haven’t gone away over night, but my skin appears to be less red and stressed looking. Along with a few herbs that I have learned about recently that target hormonal acne (I will do a post on this soon!), I am finding that eliminating the coffee intake has helped my skin in a slightly noticable way.
