My Thoughts:

I’ve been able to review and experience the Seaweed Bath Company before, and it’s neat for my journey through the world of natural products to circle back around to this brand again. They’re a company that is pretty conscientious about their ingredients (above average) and their products perform very well.

In my dreams, my very own product line would be chock full of peppermint–in every single product. So needless to say, I love the refreshing effect of this shampoo + conditioner combo. The shampoo is perfectly clarifying while still leaving a nice shine throughout my hair. Performance-wise, the conditioner is pretty darn perfect. It’s creamy and rich & a little goes a long way, even in my tangly, often sweaty hair.

This body cream consists of the same eucalyptus + peppermint scents that the hair products do, and I just love it. It wakes up your senses to rub this cream all over your body. It absorbs into the skin well, provides a good amount of moisture and leaves skin smelling clean and minty.

If I could improve anything with these products, I would clean up the ingredient list just a bit. The ingredients are pretty good, but they are not all organic and some of them are clearly added for texture, consistency & shelf stability. My experience with hair products is that it is VERY hard to find the perfect marriage of performance and top-notch ingredients. The Seaweed Bath company does a good job of creating some above average products whose ingredients are plant derived and cleaner than most hair products you’ll find.

This brand is very accessible; I’ve seen them at Sprout’s Farmers Market, Whole Foods, Natural Grocers and other smaller health food retailers. You can also find them online on numerous healthy product meccas like Iherb.com, Vitacost.com and even Amazon.com.

Beyond Meat: 100% Plant Protein Meat Alternatives Review

Beyond Meat

Overall Rating: 3.5 STARS

About Beyond Meat:

“We believe there is a better way to feed the planet. Our mission is to create mass-market solutions that perfectly replace animal protein with plant protein. We are dedicated to improving human health, positively impacting climate change, conserving natural resources and respecting animal welfare. At Beyond Meat, we want to make the world a better place and we’re starting one delicious meal at a time.”

Here are a few ways I’ve used the Beyond Meat products:

My Thoughts:

I don’t believe I’ve ever given a product a rating of more than 3 stars without a single organic ingredient. Let me explain.

I believe that what Beyond Meat is doing here with these products is pretty profound. They are not the first brand to introduce meat-free alternatives, but they are one of the first to make several 100% plant based meat alternatives that taste excellent. Even my husband says that he could eat the Beyond Meat “Beef” Crumble for the foreseeable future without missing beef.

I can wrap my mind around the idea that perhaps organic ingredients are not used in this case because Beyond Meat has even stated that their GOAL is to “create mass-market solutions.” To me, this means that they are wishing to be very far reaching from the very beginning. Organic sourcing is more difficult (and often more expensive) to nail down, so, it doesn’t surprise me that I don’t see a boat load of organic ingredients in their products. I did, however, try them and enjoy them because they are non-gmo (which is a must).

I am in no way making excuses for why it’s acceptable to not boast a single organic ingredient–simply trying to paint the whole picture. I very much wish I could rave about these products, say how great the organic ingredients are and recommend them in a screaming voice from the rooftops. I can’t do that, though, However, I can applaud them for the flavor of what they’ve created and their commendable efforts: ” improving human health, positively impacting climate change, conserving natural resources and respecting animal welfare.” I have to say, though, I do believe that a true dedication to that mission includes sourcing organic ingredients and making that have the utmost priority (over profit and expansion).

I was lucky enough to meet the enthusiastic dude behind these products, Brian Kincaid, at Expo West this year. (Pictured below). His passion was infectious. I know he is on the right track and I’m sure that Beyond Meat will only continue to grow, improve and nourish bodies.

I see these products as a good non-gmo, more-alkaline option of plant-based protein that satisfies the taste buds.

Conscious Box: Plant-Based Sample Box Review

Conscious Box: Plant Based

Overall Rating: 3 Stars

Pick up full-size favorites at deep discounts. It’s that simple. Conscious Box makes living healthy easier than ever.”

______________________________

My Thoughts:

I discovered Conscious Box when I was still a college student, finishing up my bachelor’s degree in North Texas. At the time, Consciouc Box provides an excellent means for me to become acquainted with a big range of natural and organic beauty, skin and nutrition products. I have always been happy with & impressed by the variety in their boxes. In one box, you may get a deodorant sample and a seaweed bar. Heck, you could really go crazy and apply your deodorant while eating the seaweed bar! 🙂 The only thing I’ve noticed that I’d improve is that not all products inclosed are organic. They seem to be varying in quality as far as ingredients used.

Conscious Box sent me this plant-based version of their box for me to take a look at and try. My favorites in the bundle are the Chickpeas made by Saffron Road, Green Superfood Bar made by Amazing Grass &  the Bamboo Towels made by NaturezWay. I loved the idea of the Tiny Tea, but couldnt dive deeper ingredient-wise on their website because the info was hard to locate (that’s a instant turn-off for me! I dig transparency). The Back to Nature juice would be more appealing if it was not from concentrate, unpasteurized (requiring refridgetation) and contained organic ingredients. I really wanted to love the Vaska detergent–I checked out their website and saw this:

“Made from plant based surfactants and essential oils. NO nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs), NO chlorine, NO phosphates, NO optical brighteners, NO animal products, NO EPA priority pollutants, NO dyes, and NO chemical thickeners.

Water/Aqua, Alcohols C9-11 Ethoxylated, Alkyl Polyglucoside, Surfactant Copolymer, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Potassium Cocoate, Fragrance/Parfum, Methylchlorisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone.”

While I appreciate that they do not use several harsh chemicals, I am apprehensive about the hard-to0-pronounce ingredients. Since I make my own very simple deterent at home with three ingredients, reading that ingredient list was not appealing to me. the lavender provided my clothes a pleasant aroma, though!

As I predicted, I was impressed with the variety in this Conscious Box, but would just ask for better in regards to quality of the products. I strive for the best of the best!

ClifBar Organic Energy Food Fuel Packs Review

Clif Bar Organic Energy Food Fuel Packs

Overall Rating: 4 Stars

__________________________

My Thoughts:

Clif Bar is a brand that I continually work with & have always had gratitude for–as they’re committed to using organic ingredients. Our little blondie adores the kid’s clif bars and we see them as a go-to to satisfy her need for quick fuel and replenishment on the go.

I was so intriued by these fuel packs when they came out! Having healthy fuel that I can take with me was important in the last several months as I was traveling frequently coaching volleyball–and has continued to be important as I commute to and from work everyday & always bring my own snacks & shakes to supplement the green juice or salad I buy for lunch at a local spot. I don’t believe you have to give up healthy & sensible eating altogether when you’re traveling–it just requires a little bit of preparation.

The idea of these packs is excellent–as they truly taste like real mini-meals. All of them taste delectable in their own right. The pizza margherita was particularly interesting, & I enjoyed having the pizza flavor in baby food form (surprisingly).

I love the organic ingredients, the portability and the flavor of Clif Bar’s new Organic Energy Food Fuel Packs. My only scrutiny is that they’re not raw. Raw food doesn’t have as long of a shelf life–I get it from a profit standpoint. However, I’m exponentially more interested in supporting and buying products that put the nutrition aspect as top priority. Fueling my body the best way I know how will always be the major focus of my self-care. To me, that means as much organic & raw food as possible.

They’re off to a fantastic start by using non-gmo, organic ingredients. But, my enthusiasm will be elevated if Clif Bar comes out with some raw fuel. Maybe organic, raw, plant based protein? I’d do a cartwheel for sure 🙂

Oh! & I thought it was major cool that they included organic oregano, basil & tomato seeds from High Mowing seeds–just in time for the start of spring gardening!

 My Thoughts:

I just cannot possibly, ever (ever) say enough good things about Sprout Living, the crew behind the brand & their protein. I am absolutely enthralled with the quality of their products, the nutrition in them and how they stack up against other protein brands. They pretty much blow most everyone else out of the water. Plant based protein has been done before–but Sprout Living’s protein is unique in that contains health boosting superfoods & the protein sources they use (Brown Rice + Sacha Inch + Cranberry Seed + Jerusalem Artichoke) are unique and aren’t often found in that combination often (from my experience).

The taste is excellent–I find that I can mix any of these proteins with just water and they are satisfying, yummy and have a pleasant aftertaste. What I do most days, though, is mix a few tablespoons (I don’t measure exactly) into a blender bottle along with some almond or coconut milk, add some hemp oil & chia seeds & then slurp! I also love to make an extra drink and pack it in my work bag.

MOST important of all, this is what they can boast in regards to quality:

-Organic

-Raw

-Vegan

-Non GMO

-Gluten Free

-Nut Free

-Kosher

SO impressive. I’m HOOKED.

I had the pleasure of meeting part of the Sprout Living crew at Natural Products Expo east this year and was impressed at how friendly and knowledgable they are. My experience with this brand has been nothing short of completely outstanding. I just think they are a bunch of rockstars creating an amazing product that I believe in. GO CHECK THEM OUT! They’ve even been gracious enough to feature me on their Experts Page.
