Financial Business Coaching with Emily Bordner

At the Biz Babe Symposium this year, I had the privilege of meeting and listening to Emily Bordner. Emily is the beautiful mind behind her empowering + educational + inspiring Financial Coaching Biz (and well as her super-lovely leather goods, jewelry and glassware designs). Um, how wonderfully multi-faceted and talented she is!

Luke and I were lucky enough to snag an hour of her time at the Starbucks on the Plaza here in Kansas City. I loved the set up of talking about our finances (potentially a stressful, tense subject) in a calming, good-vibe coffee shop with great company. Emily was so great and easy to talk to. We were so impressed with how carefree the meeting felt while also being SO full of helpful information that we can apply to our income and planning smart for the future so that we can aim to live as happily and free as possible.

Here are some of the topics from our meeting:

-Creating a separate bank account for ROO income for easy tracking

-Why to file a DBA + getting an EIN # for business banking

-Getting a grasp on business expenses

-What to write off as tax time (office space, work computer, etc.)

-Becoming an LLC (protects you from unhappy clients + accidents, gives you a tax advantage on business purchases)

-The concept of “Freedom of Commitment” from the book “The Art of Not Giving A F*ck)

-Profit First Stradegy

-Assess where majority of business income comes from and use that to plan your time spent

-Dream Clients!

-Expensify app to track business expenses, mileage, etc….

….and so many more gold nuggets! We could have talked to her for SO much longer, but she jam packed our session with digestible, helpful starting points.

Here’s Luke & I feeling adulty after our session with Emily!

Luke and I already feel like we have a better plan to be more organized with our income and begin planning smarter for our future ventures. This experience was so helpful to us and I just know there are so many (9-5 workhorses and entrepreneurial spirits alike) out there that could benefit from this guidance.

How to Detox Heavy Metals + Parasites + Mold & Boost Liver Health

Curious about how to detox heavy metals, mold, parasites and how it can effect every facet of your health? In this post I share my experience with supplements and the protocol I followed.

Before Photo (11/30/17)

-Taken before starting this protocol (feeling moderately healthy + but painful menstrual cycles + not feeling 100%)

before.jpg

Heads up–this post will talk frankly about periods and woman stuff! (you’re welcome)

Backstory on my Health + Acne

For as long as I can remember (approximately age 12), I have had debilitating menstrual cramps. Along with the cramps was hormonal (cystic) acne. I was able to balance + heal my skin through use of an awesome supplement called Estroblock. (you can read that full post here).

photo-3

I only took the product for about 8 months and it did it’s job in that time. It works by helping your body get rid of “bad” estrogens in your body. These can disrupt your endocrine system, which is the system responsible for dispersing those little chemical messengers telling your body how to operate.

While my acne cleared up and I felt encouraged by that, my periods were still heavy and painful. I tried every natural pain remedy and solution I could think of:

-Drinking only green juice the days leading up to my period

-Experimenting with eliminating certain foods (coffee, dairy, gluten, etc.)

-Changing up my exercise routine

Nothing took the pain away.

Seeing a Naturopath (Integrative Natural Medicine Doctor)

Since I failed so many times at trying to help myself, I felt like it was time to seek the help of a natural medicine doctor. I went to Cura Integrative in Overland Park, Kansas (HIGHLY recommend them).

To start, they performed a biofeedback test on me which revealed:

-Very high levels of blood toxicity (heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, mold, environmental toxins)

-Parasitic infection (people with high levels of heavy metals are more susceptible to this)

-Food sensitivities (often linked to and caused by heavy metal toxicity)

-Egg, Nuts (including coconut + peanut), Gluten, Dairy, Corn, Soy, Rice

Third Phase: Emotional Healing + Liver Support

-I had a check up biofeedback test at this point which revealed that I was making a TON of progress. My food sensitivities to gluten, dairy, almonds and rice went away. Because of the intense detoxing I had been doing, though, my liver was overwhelmed (stagnation) and it needed some help + support.

-Though I didn’t hold it in my conscious mind, I was dealing with a lot of emotional trauma + sadness, which was manifesting itself throughout my body. I had forgotten how your emotional and mental state can impact your physical health! Amazing. Great reminder. I downloaded several meditation apps and have made it a daily ritual to calm my mind.

Products Used (pictured below):

Livaplex

Immuplex

Viral-fuge

-Quicksilver Scientific:

I still have a few weeks left of this last wave of this detox protocol and you can expect me to come back to this post and update it with where I’m at + how I’m feeling.

Thank you for journeying with me and listening to my experience. I sincerely hope it helps guide you if you feel less than your best and gives you hope to keep exploring what tools your body needs to thrive. This trek has been paramount in the big scheme of my life. If you have any specific questions, I’d love to chat! Just comment below.

Make Good Use of Your Pulse,

Recipe: How to Make Bulletproof Coffee

Bulletproof Coffee

Have you heard of this? Bulletproof coffee is becoming increasingly more prevalent–as it should. Without diving-head-first into the boat loads of science behind these ingredients and the synergy that exists between them, I’ll give you the…

Semi-basic run down for why bulletproof coffee can take your coffee routine to the next level & a few tips on making your own:

  • Improves your mental clarity
  • Slows the assimilation of caffeine and fats in your body, making them more filling & giving you sustained energy versus just a quick boost.
  • Coupling the coffee with fats like grass fed butter, MCT oil (you can also use palm oil or coconut oil) improves the satiating effect of the drink and the natural caffeine content of the coffee bean helps make the fatty acids more readily available for absorption and energy use in the body.
  • Laird describes this robust drink as one that will give you “a whole new focus.”
  • The presence of omega-3 fatty acids in the butter and oils help reduce inflammation in the body by decreasing triglyceride levels.
  • Make sure to choose a coffee blend that is organic (preferably a dark or espresso roast, as those often contain less acid.
  • You can make this completely vegan and dairy free just by using the MCT oil, coconut oil and/or palm oil.

My interest in bulletproof coffee has existed for a while now–initially prompted by this video by one of my main professional-athlete-inspirers (surfing legend, fitness & nutrition guru), Laird Hamilton.

My Recipe for Bulletproof Coffee:

(created with inspiration from many!)

No exact measuring here! Everything is approximate.

Instructions here are minimal:

  • Simply combine all ingredients (sans coffee) in your coffee cup.
  • Brew your coffee as usual, separately.
  • When finished, pour the hot coffee into your cup to combine all of the ingredients.
  • The heat from the coffee will liquify the oils and help everything to combine.
  • Stir & ENJOY!

I’ve loaded up that list with the links to all of the products that I used.

Also, it’s just worth mentioning that I drink this is the morning in place of a breakfast. Lately, I’ve been practicing intermittent fasting (only liquids until 11amish, then eating from about 11am-7pm) paired with a ketogenic approach to eating. I’m not counting macros right now, but I mindfully to good sources of fat for energy and then an adequate (filling) amount of protein.

Have you ever made your own bulletproof coffee? I’d love to hear about it. Happy Brewing!
