Erbaviva

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

About Erbaviva:

“Erbaviva was born to bring the world a luxurious collection of the purest organic skincare products available.

OURSTORY

With a passion for pure ingredients and their own children as inspiration, Robin Brown and Anna Cirronis created Erbaviva, a beautiful line of authentically organic skincare products for baby, mothers-to-be and everyone else.  The exclusive, handmade collection is Certified USDA Organic and Demeter Biodynamic.

In the defining spirit of voyagers, Robin and Anna were among the very first to seek out and source the highest quality organic ingredients possible for their original organic baby skincare line in 1996.  Desiring the healthiest, safest and most natural products for their newborn, the couple developed distinctively pure products, consciously crafted with ultimately nourishing living herbs and botanicals and free from harsh detergents, chemical fragrances and other unhealthy additives. Erbaviva was born.

Dedicated to bringing equally effective and synergistic organic skincare products to more than only the babies of the world, Erbaviva soon after created a line of premium pregnancy products, a luxuriant bath and body collection and superior, organic and wild crafted essential oils.  Organic luxury for everyone.

Erbaviva remains ever true to its originating philosophy of authenticity and enduring commitment to people and the environment with its products, manufacturing and global community service.  Erbaviva is a proud financial supporter of The Blink Now Foundation and its invaluable work to sustain and care for the lives of impoverished children in Nepal.  Since the founding of the company, Erbaviva has also been an integral part of an artisan project fund that provides direct financial benefit to the Pwo Karen hill tribe of Northern Thailand and Burma.  All of Erbaviva’s products are compassionately made by hand at the company’s own renewable energy powered facility in Southern California.  A Certified B Corporation, Erbaviva consistently implements and supports sustainable and environmentally responsible principles with every practice and partnership as possible.”

My Thoughts:

Zowwweeee! I love Erbaviva. That’s the simplest way I can put it. The integrity, quality, thought and beauty that goes into these products is not lost on me. Never, ever do I have to worry about anything-distantly-related-to-junk making its way onto my skin with Erbaviva. Knowing that there’s a brand like this out there (it’s one of few that really commit to incredible, organic ingredients–not just non-toxic ingredients) is refreshing, comforting and it something I’m driven to support.

The idea of “shaping” products was a new one to me. As usual with Erbaviva, the ingredients in the shaping salts and oil are stellar.

In the winter months, I try to reel in the frequency with which I exfoliate because my skin tends to dry out quicker. That said, I still feel a need to take care of the grime and build up on my skin that accrues after lots of sweaty workouts. That’s where the salts come in. I love that they help achieve glowing and minimize skin imperfections, but I would use it for the refreshing feeling alone. I make sure to follow up every shower (when I use the salts) with the shaping oil–this helps nourish and replenish my skin’s moisture. The use of ginger and pepper in the mixture is invigorating. Plus, pure organic oil just makes your skin glow! That is my single-favorite organic skin care item: body oil. It’s just such dense nourishment & I don’t ever have to worry about my skin reacting to it. Erbaviva oil blends are excellent in that you can tell they’ve concocted their products with thought and care–and it shows–my skin LOVES these products. The salt + oil routine is a must to get your skin (head-to-toe) summer ready!

As expected, I love the lip balm as well. It’s the perfect thickness–it provides sheen and moisture to your lips but also has some great staying power. I don’t find myself needing to reapply it many times throughout the day. The vanilla + grapefruit combination is genius–it’s a decadent piece of zesty heaven. It rocks!

You need some Erbaviva in your life if you believe in taking great care of your skin. They have an incredible thing going! (They also have products specifically formulated for babies and mommies!) 🙂

TastyFace Organics Skin Care Review: Part Deux

TastyFace Organics

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

I have been supremely lucky to have gained an organic beauty sister in Kelly, the founder of TastyFace. She’s a vibrant soul and a passionate woman–infectiously so. She also just so happens to make one of my very favorite lines of skin care (in my top 2!). Here are a couple other posts I’ve written on TastyFace products:

“This is a a powerful butter.  Thick, rich, dense with moisture.  We combine organic shea, cocoa butter, coconut and sweet almond combine to create a powerfully moisturizing and nourishing all over body treat.  Finished with vanilla and blood orange essential oil to create a scent that’s quite simply a combo of creamiscle and chocolate.  Delicious. Your skin will soak it up!

(Please note:  Product consistency can vary depending on temperature.  Colder temps will lend to a hardened consistency – will soften at room temp.  Likewise, try to keep below 78 degrees to avoid melting!  *Just like butter.)

Lighter in texture than moisturizer, but filled with nothing but the highest quality organic oils and essentials.  The healing serum is specifically formulated with tamanu oil – which is known for its ability to quickly heal cuts, abrasions, acne, and help reduce the appearance of redness and scarring. This is a lovely light moisturizing serum and can also be layered with other TastyFace products. (We recommend cleanser, toner, serum, then moisturizer!)

Ingredients:  jojoba oil*, tamanu oil*, sunflower oil*, evening primrose oil*, sea buckthorn oil*, calendula essential oil*, grapefruit essential oil*, essential oils*

“Our newest!  HUGE tin of lip love right here. Sweet orange combined with warm, comforting vanilla scent our classic balm recipe… coconut oil, cocoa and shea butters, sweet almond oil and beeswax.  Simple yet so awesomely effective on stubborn chapped lips!  And it just plain tastes amazing.  Having a hard time not licking my lips off over here.  Remember, our lip balms are a giant 1 ounce.  That’s about 4 times the size of normal balms!

Ingredients: coconut oil*, cocoa butter*, shea butter*, sweet almond oil*, beeswax, vitamin e* (from sunflower seed oil), sweet orange essential oil*, vanilla oleoresin, essential oils*

*organic/high quality source

Directions for use:  Apply liberally to lips.  Can also be used as a healing salve for various cuts and scrapes, or a cuticle softener. My Thoughts:

I truly began to laugh to myself in beginning to write another piece on Tastyface. Why am I laughing? Because this could be a 4 word review: “Tastyface Organics freaking rocks!”

Let me just say, I have tried many brands of organic skin care (most of them not actually containing entirely organic ingredients–which in my opinion is an abuse of the word “organic”) and it is rare to find product lines:

1. Made in small batches.

2. Headed by an engaged, warm founder that is eager to help.

3. Is comprised of 100% organic ingredients.

No bull honkey. No tomfoolery. No bogus promises. TastyFace is the REAL deal.

As the name suggests, these products are incredible aromatic, intoxicating and the ingredients are good enough to eat. Kelly truly abides by the idea of “if you wouldn’t eat it, don’t put it onto your skin.”

Now for the these new products I got to try! These two serums are like summer dreams in a bottle. Not only are the ingredients organic and pure (as always, with Tastyface) but they soak into my skin perfectly. If you’re new to facial serums, don’t be afraid! Even if you have oily skin, nature’s oils are and should be your friend. Damaged skin needs moisture; it shouldn’t be deprived of it. Investing in a bottle of Tastyface serum will do so much more good for your skin than ANY bottle of chemical-filled acne-fighting cream. Chemicals don’t solve imbalances, organic skin care & a healthy diet do.

If I had to pick one of the two serums, I’d say the Tamanu + Grapefruit is my favorite. When I was in college a few years ago, Tamanu oil was one of the very first natural remedies I began to use on my blemished skin. I noticed the health of skin improving almost immediately. It felt better, I was more evenly complected and my skin just stopped freaking the bleep out. Tamanu oil might sound foreign, but your skin will love it.

The sweet orange lip balm was a product that our 6 year old was eyeing. She said “Ohhh orange cream!” It gives me so much peace of mind knowing that we have an organic lip balm for her that she loves. So many sticks of lip balm are riddled with junk. No junk here, just pure, sweet orange goodness. I was lucky that she was willing to share it with me so I could try it 🙂 This balm, along with the lemon rosemary balm by Tastyface is a balm recipe perfected. It’s the ideal consistency–soaks into your lips just enough but keeps them moist. It seems like so many lip balms with a cheap base ingredient don’t hang around on your skin for long (same for cheap, junky lotion), you apply it and then your skin is dry again in 10 minutes. I don’t have that problem with these lip balms. They rock!

It’s a good thing that my husband doesn’t regularly use body butter, because blood orange is his favorite! Blood orange kombucha, blood orange sparkling drinks–blood orange everything. This body butter is such a treat. These scent combinations that Kelly has come up with are simply brilliant. Blood Orange + Vanilla is a sublime coupling. Like in using body oils, I like to use this body butter right after showering, when my skin is still a bit damp. The water droplets help the body butter spread onto skin more easily (it also allows you to use less–so it will last longer!). It gives skin the perfect quench and such a pleasant smell. It’s SO redundant, but seriously, with every TastyFace product I try, I think: “Yep, Kelly has done it again–perfectly.”

If you haven’t read any of this review until right now, what I want you to leave with is the notion that you need to check out Tastyface!

Osmia Organics Review: Body Soaps, Facial Soap, Lip Balm, Deodorant, Facial Calibration Serum, Body Oil

Osmia Organics

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

Soaps

20130125-134100.jpg

Vetiver Grey

Osmia Organics’ Description:

“A masculine combination of vetiver and virginia cedar wood, with a hint of lime. Dead sea mud and black clay give a gentle grey color and a deep clean. For: All skin types.”

My Description & Thoughts:

I had no idea what to expect with this soap. I knew the soap would do incredible things for my skin (as ALL Osmia products do) but I was not familiar with the smell of Vetiver. The first things that came to mind upon smelling this soap were: earthy, musky, clay, clean, and fresh. This scent I found very nice, mild and enjoyable. To me, it is indeed masculine smelling–making it a perfect bar of soap to have in the shower to share with your significant other. 🙂

20130125-134053.jpg

Lavender Pine

Osmia Organics’ Description:

Lavender and pine in a beautiful purple bar. The scent is wonderful – the lavender and pine essential oils combine perfectly.  Mildly exfoliating due to the sandalwood powder, this soap also has a great feel on the skin. For: All skin types.”

My Description & Thoughts:

I currently am using this bar of soap as hand soap next to the sink in my bathroom. The scent of this soap is wonderfully earthy with the subtle flowery lavender aroma. I have used this soap in the shower too–the smell takes over the shower and it turns into a lavender & pine aromatherapy session. Just like every other Osmia soap I’ve used, the soap leaves my skin so incredibly nourished, soft, and healthy feeling.

20130125-134048.jpg

Rose Clay Facial Soap

Osmia Organics’ Description:

Australian pink clay and white kaolin clay hydrate and heal the skin, and essential oils of geranium and palma rosa give a rose-like scent. For: Dry, mature, or sensitive skin. How: Use one to two times daily.  Rinse skin well and gently pat dry.

My Description & Thoughts:

I purchased this soap after using the other clay facial bar (black clay) that Osmia makes. I love that soap, so I was eager to try the rose clay soap as my facial cleanser. This soap is just as wonderful, yet It is slightly more gentle on the skin. The black clay did its best job when my skin was very oily (at the end of the day or after a workout). This rose clay seems to do its best job when my skin needs a mild cleanse/rinse. Both of these bar soaps are incredibly cleansing, yet nourishing, never drying–things that I would not expect from a bar. Osmia has shattered any previous aversions I had to bar soap. Great product–I will certainly keep these clay facial soaps as staples in my routine.

20130125-134657.jpg

Lip Balm

Osmia Organics’ Description:

“For: chapped lips. Why: luxurious oils and lanolin heal and protect lips. How: apply as needed.”

My Description & Thoughts:

This lip balm is absolute perfection. Even though it has various essential oils in it, subtle peppermint is the scent & flavor that stands out the most to me. I apply it right after getting out of the shower so that my lips stay moisturized. I find that applying it right after a shower never gives them a chance to get chapped (in combination with reapplying it throughout the day).

20130125-134652.jpg

20130125-134646.jpg

Deodorant

Osmia Organics’ Description:

Osmia doesn’t yet distribute this item through their website, so I feel like I got a little sample of something great!

My Description & Thoughts:

This deodorant is earthy, pleasant, and effective. It is a great go-to organic deodorant for me. I’ve found that many organic deodorants do not absorb all of the body odor, whereas this deodorant masks odor wholly. The scent is an excellent choice for deodorant (earthy and clay-like) as it makes it a versatile, unisex deodorant.

20130211-181120.jpg

Facial Calibration Serum

Osmia Organics’ Description:

A select combination of oils, chosen for their balancing qualities, helps skin become more even and smooth, and assists in regulating sebum production.  Absorbs quickly, and does not leave the skin oily.  In fact, used regularly, this serum can help oily skin behave itself, and combination skin become less confused. For: Normal, combination, oily skin. How: One pump over the face and neck after cleansing, while skin is still quite damp.

My Description & Thoughts:

I have just recently started using a moisturizer/serum on my face after washing it. For the longest time, I would just use a cleanser and pat my face dry–even though I would be left with some dry spots on my face. Since I have oily skin, it never occured to me that using a moisturizer or serum after washing would be the best choice for my skin to keep it balanced. This calibration serum is just what I have needed. Not only is it packed full of powerful, high quality essential oils, but it moisturizes perfectly without leaving my skin dirty and oily.

Forest Body Oil

Osmia Organics’ Description:

“Precious ambrette seed oil and invigorating evergreen oils provide a clean, green scent – excellent for use when you are completely run down and need a little boost.  Excellent when used with Lavender Pine Soap. For: All skin types. How: Apply to clean, wet skin.”

My Description & Thoughts:

This body oil is like taking a trip to the mountains. The aroma is so intoxicating, earthy, woodsy, and pleasant. I apply it (as Sarah of Osmia Organics suggests to) after getting out of the shower to damp skin. This application is ideal because the oil spreads on skin much easier when in combination with water droplets left on the skin after showering. Another wonderful thing about this oil is that my skin absorbs it, is left nourishes & moisturized, and is not sticky or oily. That is what these wonderful essential oils and organic carrier oils do for the skin. Well done, Osmia. 🙂
