Raw Generation Juice Cleanse Review

IMG_7406.JPG

Raw Generation

Overall Rating: 2 Stars

About Raw Generation:

“Never Heated, Pasteurized, or Pressurized (HPP)

Raw Generation Juices NEVER  heated, Pasteurized, or Pressurized (HPP). Our juices are NEVER exposed to heat of any kind…they are truly 100% raw. Flash freezing is the best way to preserve vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and micro flora without effecting taste or nutritional value.

Any form of Pasteurization, including High Pressure Pascallization (HPP), lowers the nutritional value of foods by raising temperature. Don’t be fooled by claims of “Gentle Pasteurization” either… that’s marketing hype to disguise the fact that the product has been heated.

Never Diluted

Our juices are made with 100% fruit and vegetable juices. We never add water so you can be assured you are getting the maximum amount of nutrition in each bottle.

No Harsh Chemicals Used

We use a safe and natural cleaning solution of water and vinegar to wash our fruits and vegetables. No harsh chemicals are used. What would be the point of drinking our juice if it were filled with a chemical residue?

No Preservatives or Additives

That means absolutely no chemicals, additives, preservatives, dyes, flavors, etc, etc. Nothing is added to our juices. Our ingredients are picked out of the ground or off a tree- fruits and vegetables ONLY!

Separation is Natural

Since our juice is freshly made with no fillers, binders, or chemicals it will naturally separate. Just give it a good shake before you are ready to drink it and it’s ready to go. This juice settles. You shouldn’t.

Opaque Bottles

We purposely stopped using clear bottles. Why you ask? Because clear bottles let in sunlight that destroys the nutrients faster than in opaque bottles. The choice was simple! We’re using opaque bottles so our juices stay as fresh as possible so you can get what you are after… high quality nutrition to help you lose weight and feel great!

BPA-Free Plastic Bottles

We use BPA free plastic bottles. You are drinking our juice because you want the health benefits right? So why would we sell it in a plastic leaching bottle? Plus, you can take these bottles anywhere! Rest assured that you are drinking nothing but juice from fruits and vegetables.”

In regards to the quality of the ingredients, I learned this about Raw Generation’s fruits and veggies:

“We purchase all our fruits and vegetables from a local wholesaler. Are products come from all over some local some not so local. We triple wash everything we produce to insure we remove any residue.”

To get started with Raw Generation, use the code “RUNONORGANIC” for 40% off!

Ginger, a root rich in anti-inflammatory properties, gives the juice a little kick. The carrots are high in B vitamins, beta-carotene, and vitamin A (great for a healthy liver) and vitamin C. Oranges have a long list of nutritional benefits, such as being high in C & B vitamins, phytochemicals (powerful antioxidants).

My Thoughts:

I was really looking forward to trying Raw Generation juices after reading the story of how it all started. Moreover, I thought it was neat that they have a juice called “Jessica”–even though it has one too many “s” 😉

I really enjoyed the juices in regards to their flavor profiles and combinations. I like that “Elizabeth” contains aloe vera juice, “Cecelia” is a bright, orange smack-in-the-face, “Carolyn” gives you the hearty, robust goodness of beet juice, & “Jessica” loads you up with a bunch of leafy greens.

The creativity with the bottling (and using BPA-free bottles) along with the use of ultra-healthy ingredients like kale, ginger and aloe vera make me a fan of these juices. However, it’s hard for me to REALLY get on board with a brand that does not strive to always use organic ingredients.

I understand it is a much more costly route to creating juice. But, I always believe that proper and adequate nutrition is worth every dollar. Thus, I’d really be happy to continually support Raw Generation if they started using all organic ingredients. For that matter, indicating that the juices contain non-gmo ingredients would be a good first step in the right direction. For me, it’s hard to justify buying these cleanses when there are several other brands who make organic juice cleanses for about the same price.

I also get that it may be shocking to see such an unfavorable review for juice that is entirely made of fruits and vegetables. What can I say, my standards are very high. I aim for organic juice whenever possible (it’s always possible) 🙂

Balanced Scalp Detox

About:

“Even your scalp needs a break from time to time. Give your tired roots the rest they need with this detoxifying scalp treatment. Our astringent blend of Oregano, Tea Tree Oil and Rosemary essential oils will help begin the detox process, while Algae, sea Kelp and Brahmi help to rejuvenate tired roots. For best results, give your hair a break from styling products as well.

Ingredients:

Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice*, Alcohol Denat*, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract*, Aqua (Water), Cymbopogan Flexuosus (Lemongrass) Oil*, Ascophyllum Nodosum (Kelp) Extract*, Spirulina Platensis (Spirulina) Extract*, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Oil*, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Oil*, Bacopa Monnieri (Brahmi) Powder*, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Oil*, Origanum Vulgare (Oregano) Oil*.

* Certified Organic Ingredients.”

My Thoughts:

My first thought before trying this detoxifying scalp concoction was: I could make this myself, but it would be expensive. I usually begin to make things myself when I believe the ingredients are subpar. In this case, the ingredients are sublime!

Besides the fact that I am completely in love with the Balanced Guru’s mission and mindset; this is a fantastic, high-quality & organic product. I couldn’t ask for anything better in regards to the ingredient list.

The scent of this blend is very herbaceous and multi-faceted. I’ve been applying it to my scalp about 30 minutes before showering. I use a very clarifying, organic shampoo (which I would recommend in this case) to wash my hair and it rinses out this oil beautifully. I would imagine it’s easy to rinse out since the base of this treatment is aloe vera and the other ingredients are essential oils (which are not fatty oils–what are more like water in regards to consistency).

I don’t have issues with a lack of hair growth nor flaky skin on my scalp, but I’d recommend this to someone that does. If you’re looking for a natural remedy to help stimulate hair growth, this product is a good choice. It’s also perfect for a girl like me who exercises frequently, gets sweaty and needs a healthy hair boost from time to time. For me, once a week has been sufficient. I’d imagine you could use this treatment more often if your hair is extremely dull and lacks liveliness.

Besides leaving the roots of your hair lifted and revitalized, it helps detoxify the skin on your scalp–and who doesn’t want that? Healthier skin on your head means healthier hair.

This is an excellent, unique product and I highly recommend it to those looking to achieve their healthiest hair and scalp.

Skin Mind Body Essentials: Lotus Moon, Detox RX Review

Skin Mind Body Essentials Brands: Lotus Moon & Detox Rx

Skin Mind Body essentials is a company that is comprised of three brands: Lotus Moon, Detox Rx, Plain Jane Beauty and Son (for men). I was eager to get my hands on these products because their website descriptions immediately impressed me. Lisa of SMB was lovely to connect with–she sent over some great, deluxe sized samples of Lotus Moon & Detox Rx items for me to try, evaluate and write about. I am also loving the tote and Lotus Moon glass bottle that Lisa sent me! I have been using more glass containers versus plastic to avoid BPA, so this bottle came at the perfect time.

Here is a bit of background about Lotus Moon:

“This is our active, natural and organic skin care line that uses therapeutic blends of essential oils and extracts along with concentrated levels of active ingredients to address various imbalances in the skin.”

And a bit of background about Detox Rx:

“To emphasize the important of internal wellness and detoxification and its connection to beautiful skin we offer DetoxRx. A line of supplements, bath and body products that support and improve the body’s natural internal cleansing process. These formulation are gently, yet effective, and only contain the highest quality natural and organic ingredients.”

Unscented Conditioner

Lotus Moon’s Description:

“Hair types: All

pH: 3.5 – 4

Clean and simple. Just how you like it.

HEALTHY conditioner goes back to the basics. When all your hair needs is gentle conditioning then this is your go-to treatment. A low pH balanced conditioner helps to restore hair elasticity, reduce dryness and breakage, maximize color retention and boost shine.

Aloe vera juice, lavender and chamomile hydrosols help to soften your tresses while rosehip seed oil and wheat protein help to nourish and repair.

Although this is an unscented conditioner, meaning we did not add any essential oils to it, you will still notice that is has an inherent scent that is simply from the ingredients themselves. We do not add other chemicals in order to create a “neutral” scent. Many people want an unscented or fragrance-free product but do not realize that often times chemicals are added to remove whatever scent remains. We do not do that, so what you will smell is the natural scent of the ingredients themselves.

Ingredients:

Aloe barbadensis (Aloe) Juice*, Lavendula angustifolia (Lavender) Distillate*, Anthemis nobilis (Roman Chamomile) Distillate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ricinus communis (Castor) Oil, Stearalkonium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, dl-Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5), Vegetable Glycerin, Rosa mosqueta (Rosehip) Seed Oil, Salix nigra (Black Willow Bark) Extract *NOP certified organic.”

My Description & Thoughts:

The two most important things to me in looking for a conditioner that I will keep in my shower are: great, organic ingredients and the conditioner’s ability to detangle the ends of my hair. This conditioner has both of those qualities.

The fact that it is unscented is nice for a couple reasons. First, because it makes it more friendly for male & female usage and second, because it enables you to add whatever essential oil to it that you’d like. Having that creative ability is nice.

It is hard to find a conditioner that meets my two specs, so I’m happy to have come across this great Lotus Moon conditioner!

My Description & Thoughts:

Like cleansing lotions that I’ve tried, this cleansing milk does not have much lather to it, as you’d imagine. It is more of a soothing, cleansing, hydrating way of cleansing skin.

For a more thorough, yet nourishing clean, I combine this milk with my favorite organic bar soap to clarify my skin more entirely.

Wonderful ingredients are to be expected with any Lotus Moon product–how refreshing. This cleansing milk is no exception.

I appreciate this milk in that it mixes up my showering routine a bit, which is nice at times. The green tea  & lavender scents together make for quite a therapeutic experience when combined with warm shower water–just lovely!

Clean Sweep – Natural Psyllium Fiber Cleanse

Detox Rx’s Description:

“After extensive research and testing we concluded that the best thing to do when it comes to cleaning out the system was to keep it simple. That’s just what we did.

CleanSweep® blends USDA certified organic psyllium husk and seed powders. That’s it! That’s all! While the husk has more fiber than the seed, the seed has more nutrients, and we wanted the best of both worlds.

Psyllium is the strongest natural dietary fiber for promoting regularity and supporting heart health. It is most effective when used everyday, and can be used as long as desired.

Each teaspoon provides 4 grams of dietary fiber. The average person needs about 25 grams of fiber per day. This is an easy way to get the fiber that you need. It can be added to your morning protein shake or simply added to water and stirred vigorously.

What are the benefits of Clean Sweep?

  • Promotes regularity and easy elimination
  • Removes toxins for better health
  • Improves digestion
  • Helps lower elevated cholesterol levels for heart health
  • Helps balance blood sugar levels
  • Reduces problems with diarrhea or loose stools
  • Protects the health of the colon.”

My Description & Thoughts:

I’m all about detoxing using organic, natural methods. This fiber gives my daily routine an added boost. I have been adding it to my smoothies and elixirs that I make–it has a very mild, earthy flavor the mainly just makes any concoction more robust and thick.

It helps keep the bloat out of my stomach and regulates my digestions. For me, a healthy tummy often means a healthy overall feeling and mindset. Adding this powder to smoothies also makes for a more satisfying drink. Sometimes, I just mix it with water and throw it back down the hatch for a more direct and speedy way to drink it.

This is a great detox product that I highly recommend. I love seeing the organic label on a supplement like this!

*These complimentary products have been generously provided to me for the purpose of trying them in order to write a review on my experience.

Phenomenal Read: Laird Hamilton’s Book: Force of Nature

I am no bookworm. I dedicate a lot of my time to fitness and nutrition, but rarely sit down and read a book.

However, when a book like this comes along (at the risk of sounding too dramatic), you HAVE to read it. I say this because I consider this book a “gold nugget.” The information in this book has been exponentially helpful and useful to me in my journey in becoming my healthiest and fittest self.

I could rave about this book all day long–but instead, I will share some tidbits, quotes, stories, and ideas from this book that might help and/or inspire you as well.

The author of this book, “Force of Nature: Mind, Body, Soul (and, of course, Surfing)” is professional surfer, fitness & nutrition genius, innovative waterman (he has been given credit for being the pioneer of tow-in surfing), family man (married to professional volleyball player Gabrielle Reece), Laird Hamilton.

His knowledge and wisdom are expansive, motivating, and captivating.

Laird’s interviews are on YouTube and are excellent pieces of inspiration for me. The man is a machine.

Here are a few exerpts from this book that I found particularly outstanding:

-On the key to happiness:

“I think that the key to happiness is maximizing each day. So, if you’re unhappy, here’s a simple prescription: Live harder.”

-On pursuing dreams:

“…When I was a kid growing up in Kauai, a teacher asked me what I wanted to do with my life. Obviously, she didn’t like my answer (to surf) because I also remember her shaking her head and telling me, ‘You can’t eat your surfboard.’ Well, I’ve been doing that for a while now, and at this point it tastes pretty good. Maybe she was waiting for me to say, ‘Oh, you’re right. I’ll be a lawyer.’ That would have been a very long wait. The point is, your path is yours alone. And if it’s the path less traveled, that’s absolutely fine. The world doesn’t need more conformists. The world needs more people who create and question and search. If you don’t fit in, celebrate that, and then get ready to stand your ground.”

-On treasuring the world around us:

“What we’ve been given here is precious: majestic in its smallest details and its grandest spectacles. Anytime you feel in danger of forgetting that, I recommend you take a good look at a 50 foot wave. Anyone who can be around something that powerful and not feel humbled has some serious analyzing to do.”

-On having a routine:

“I don’t have a set routine. To my mind, thats the quickest route to burnout (and it’s deeply unimaginative besides). To be healthy, to sleep well, to eat well. These things are essential every day…My activities vary daily, weekly, seasonally, geographically, psychologically, depending on who’s in town–you name it. The best way to maximize what a day has to offer is to look outside your window that morning, and then look inside yourself.”

-On enjoying fitness:

“Fitness doesn’t have to be a duty. It doesn’t have to mean charts and graphs and heart rate printouts. It should be a pleasurable part of your life, and it should include things that you do purely because you enjoy them. Fun is an ingredient that people often forget in their fitness program.”

-On enjoying the ride:

“The idea is to become an old wizard; to live a long and fruitful life and have family and be healthy and enjoy the ride. And speaking of the ride, why not let it rip, at least a little bit? Everyone I know who’s really stoked about getting out of bed in the morning does that to some extent.”

-On picturing what you want:

“Whatever you want to achieve, imagine it in every detail. When Michelangelo worked, he said he could see the sculpture in the rock before he began to carve and that his job was merely to remove the excess stone. That’s vision. Don’t be afraid to really use your imagination. Let it run wild. It’s one of the most powerful tools you’ve got.”

-On breaking the mold:

“Conventional wisdom about fitness is an oxymoron. Let’s break the mold instead.”

-On enjoying life:

“Instead of trying to enjoy our lives more, or pursuing the idea of getting into the position someday of being able to enjoy our lives more—maybe we should just start enjoying! Right this moment.”

-On finding passion:

“To find your passion, you have to look inward. If you look outward, all you see is what other people are doing. You are not other people.

-On Eating:

“Have you ever really looked at the labels on processed food? The list of ingredients is surreal. Here’s one: perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). Sounds like something you’d find in battery acid, not food. But it’s in microwave popcorn, added to make the bag less flammable. If PFOA sounds like a toxic chemical, that’s because it is; in fact, it’s been designated a likely carcinogen. And there are countless examples like this. Some chemicals are put into food to make the stuff last for months; some are added for cosmetic reasons–for coloring, flavoring, sweetening, texture, smell, you name it. Most of these additives haven’t been around that long, and their long-term effects on humans are unknown. Which means if you eat them, you’re the guinea pig.”

“Yes, it’s more expensive to buy organic food… But here’s the thing: When you put something into your mouth, you might enjoy it for 5 seconds, but your system will be dealing with its repercussions for a long time. Often people eat what their taste buds want and not what their bodies need. You know that Taco Bell isn’t the best dietary choice, but you go there because it’s easy and you like the taste. When you’re young you might be able to do this and still have a lot of energy. In the end, though, it’ll catch up with you. Potato chips in = potato chips out. That’s the rule.”

“As a culture, we rush through our meals because we think we’ve got far more important things to do. All too often, we take our food for granted. I’m always reminding myself to eat more consciously; to chew slowly and savor what I’m eating. (You can’t bolt down your dinner while watching CSI and then wonder why you have digestive problems).”

This book is available online at lairdhamilton.com or gabbyandlaird.com. It is a great investment, and if you decide to buy it, enjoy! 🙂
