ChristinasStory

Christina’s Story:

“My journey began when I was in the prime of my life, finishing years of university, getting married and starting my career. Suddenly, my vision blurred and I was seeing double. One eye went wall-eyed and I couldn’t see. If I tried to open my eyes I would fall over with dizziness. This introduced me to the medical system, and ultimately was sent to a “specialist” who diagnosed me with multiple sclerosis. Six months later, 4 ½ months pregnant, and still reeling from my last diagnosis, I was dealt another blow, I had thyroid cancer. In my fifth month of pregnancy, I underwent major surgery to completely remove my thyroid, and soon after, I was radiated. That’s when I found out that the cancer had spread to my lungs. Another radiation treatment, six months later made me very ill, but the results were the same. The cancer tumors were still the same size, at stage 4 and I was sent home to “wait it out” with cancer and MS.

I began taking an immune suppressant drug to help decrease the effects of the MS. After struggling a month to inject myself, and suffering with side effects, I was informed that the drug company would not allow me to take this drug because I had cancer too. What a waste of time, money, and added stress.

At age 26, I had been poked and prodded long enough. It became apparent that something was clearly wrong with the chemistry of my body. I decided to take my health into my own hands! I attended a health seminar about enzymes, probiotics, and raw foods, and I decided that I would try to heal myself. I made up my mind that I would heal and then I would use my story to inspire others too. My husband and I, and baby Antonio committed to changing our lifestyles and eating habits. We discarded every food from our cupboards, and replaced all of it with only raw organics foods. Then, our diet consisted of fresh fruit and vegetables, nuts, seeds, oils, and top quality enzymes, probiotics, and other raw supplements.

The first few days and weeks of our new lifestyle proved very challenging. While my body detoxified, I experienced severe migraines, fever, and blurred vision. Twenty six years of processed and chemically laden foods finally came out of my body. I shed a pound a day and within 3 weeks of adapting to this new lifestyle, scar tissue began healing. Amazingly, I no longer required my prescription glasses.

For the last ten years, I have not required any subsequent medical procedures for either disease. Against all odds, I am still thriving. We even had another healthy child Giulia, who is now 7 years old. I attribute my recovery to my new lifestyle, food choices, and pro-active care. Today, my diet consists of at least 50% raw food, with all else as a secondary. drinkmeTM Beverages are an integral part of my day. I visit an endocrinologist yearly and thankfully, everything is normal. I have never felt better in my life, and I am committed to helping others.

A quote that influenced me, is…. “The only thing I drank was a cup of reality, with a shot of appreciation.”– Kermit the Frog.

The truth is, sometimes one has to hit rock bottom before one can bounce back. I am truly grateful for the life journey that I have been through the past ten years. When I hear people say, “I’m sorry for all that you have been through”, I respond, “don’t be sorry…it’s the best thing that has ever happened to me!”

My Thoughts:

If you’re on the hunt for a raw, organic, cold-pressed juice, you’re likely to come across a handful of brands that are accessible at your local health food store. Many of them are great options and are highly nutritious.

What sets DrinkMe beverages apart from the world of juices is that these drinks are BLENDED, not JUICED. Thus, the naturally occurring fiber in the fruits and veggies used is intact in every bottle of DrinkMe. This makes each bottle more satisfying, more detoxifying and more in line with how nature intended us to consume it.

On top of the fact that these drinks are fiber rich, they are also entirely organic, raw and nutritionally rich. There are fewer ways to ingest such a hearty dose of healing nutrients in a short amount of time. A bottle of DrinkMe is ideal to grab on your way to work, with lunch or for a quick energy boost.

The frozen smoothie packs are an excellent way to store a healthy meal in your work’s freezer, or simply keep at home for a quick whip-up. The flavor of them is so fresh and delicious that I didn’t need to mix them with anything. I just let them thaw a bit before I drank them. Refreshing and delicious!

My experience with DrinkMe has been nothing short of spectacular. Christina is so generous, passionate, kind–and I absolutely believe in the products that she has created. My local Whole Foods has these products, making it easy for me to re-stock on them. For you guys and gals, DrinkMe makes it easy to find a store near you that carries DrinkMe. I’d recommend these to anyone looking to make a great, daily investment in your health. These drinks can help take your nutrition to the next level!

Forager Project

This is a review of the Forager Project Organic Drinks.

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

About Forager Project:

Having spent more than 20 years making juice and building Odwalla, we present to you Forager Project — a logical progression from fruits to vegetables.

We press organic roots and greens and, where sweetness is needed, we add fruit.

No side ingredient panel necessary – everything you need to know is always front and center.

Our blends are arranged to bring a fresh approach to your daily drink.

It is everyday juice.

Made in our kitchen.

Organic Ingredients

Kale, Celery, Cucumbers, Beets, Spinach, Sprouted Broccoli, Collard Greens, Romaine, Red Bell Pepper, Fennel, Parsley, Sprouted Quinoa, Basil, Sea Salt, Apples, Lemons, Balsamic Vinegar, Carrots, Oranges, Sprouted Ground Flax, Apple Cider Vinegar, Mint, Ginger, Cayenne, Lemongrass, Limes, Apple Cider Vinegar, Turmeric, Spearmint, Ginger, Sweet Potatoes, Cold-brewed Coffee, Cacao, Matcha Green Tea, Pineapple, Parsnips, Cinnamon, Vanilla Bean, Oats, Dates, Almonds, Cashews.”

My Thoughts:

An instant add to my “Brands I Love” page. This is one of those brands that I can’t say enough good things about. First and foremost, they value transparency–as they provide the list of (entirely organic) ingredients on the front of every bottle. So, each bottle you drink is high-quality, nutrient dense, organic splendor. I also adore the name, “Forager”.

One of my favorite things about these drinks is that they included a drink comprised of healthy fats from nuts and seeds. That is something that is rare for a juice cleanse line. Often times, it’s just the fruit and vegetable juice, sans nuts. For satisfaction and overall satiability, I loved having the two nut-heavy drinks on hand. They are rich, milky and delicious. As for the rest of the blends–I truly love that they do not taste like a sugary, fake, junky juice. They taste like plants, as they should! You really feel and taste the goodness in each gulp. Taste-wise, the “roots” and “nuts” blends are my favorite. The greens are necessary staple and are robust with greenness (but might not have the same appeal (taste-wise) as the other blends.

Drinking these blends made me feel phenomenal. Also, my skin LOVES drinks like this. My skin tends to really glow when my consumption of fruits, veggies is high. It’s an amazing feeling!

I wish I could have a refrigerator stocked full of Forager Project drinks everyday. There is something to be said about ready-made, organic, raw fresh drinks. They are incredibly good for you and are as convenient as can be. I recommend these drinks to every last person on the planet. Seriously.

My Thoughts:

This post will be brief and to the point, as I’ve review Amazing Grass products several times before and believe they are one of the highest quality lines of plant-based supplements and whole food sourced products available.

These greens packets (the Tangerine Immunity and Watermelon Energy) are my favorite flavors that Amazing Grass has come out with yet. The tangerine and watermelon flavors, respectively, do such a great job of masking the robust, greeny flavor. As always, these greens are loaded with organic ingredients and are incredibly nutrient rich. I love to mix them with water in a blender bottle and consume them pre or post workout. They’re not too heavy in your stomach like some protein shakes can be. I like that the Watermelon Energy contains a small amount of caffeine, which provides you with a little boost if you choose to consume it like I do, around workout time. It’s always a great idea to eat foods that boost and maintain a strong wall of immunity. Thus, I love that the Tangerine Immunity contains immune boosting antioxidants from plant sources.

As of late, I have been incorporating more organic whey protein than any other kind. But, I understand that whey is not comparable with vegan diets, hence Amazing Grass has smartly created a product (using plant based proteins) that will satisfying vegans and most meat eaters, alike. I really love the idea of getting a serving of greens and protein in one healthful, good-tasting packet–it’s a very unique product. In these Greens and Protein blends, Amazing Grass uses brown rice protein, hemp protein, quinoa protein and pumpkin seed protein. My assumption is that this combination is used to form a complete amino acid profile, making these proteins more digestible and bioavailable to the body. The only one of these four that I take issue with is the brown rice protein, as I aim to steer clear of grains (most of the time) and grain-derived proteins. But, I love the use of hemp, quinoa and pumpkin seed proteins. The Vanilla Spice is my favorite flavor of the two and I like it best with a half & half mixture of water and coconut milk in the bottle that’s pictured–it does a great job of breaking up the clumps. Any blender bottle will work. The Chocolate flavor is enjoyable, too, and boasts a similar nutritional profile to the Vanilla Spice blend.

Source Organic Whey Protein Review

Source Organic Whey Protein

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

About Source Organic:

“Convenient, wholesome protein is one the most difficult things to incorporate into a busy and active lifestyle, but is also one the most important.

Where your food comes from is important, and what goes into making the purest whey protein available is just as important as what does not. Source Organic Whey Protein starts with the finest raw ingredients and does as little to them as possible.

We start by working with farmers who believe in the welfare and humane treatment of their animals. Our farmers’ cows are a heritage breed called Jersey cows. These cows graze year-round on fresh pasture of clover, rye, and other native grasses.

The milk they produce is naturally high in conjugated linoleic acid (CLA’s), lactoferrin and immunoglobulins. Our USDA Organic Certification is our guarantee to you that our cows have never been given hormones, antibiotics, steroids, or genetically modified feed (GMO).

For the process to convert liquid whey to a powdered form, we use industry leading techniques of cold-processed microfiltration and small batch drying to ensure the most nutrient dense protein.

Each bag is hand packed under the direction of a certified organic processor. Our packaging is done in an environmentally conscious facility. Once packed, our bags are shipped directly to you.

To meet the request of our customers who use our Source Organic Whey Instant protein, we add less than 1% organic sunflower lecithin (not soy lecithin) to allow for the protein to mix instantly in any liquid. Our Source Organic Whey Classic protein contains no lecithin and mixes best when blended in a blender.

Process

We start with organic milk from four family owned local dairies, all within 90 miles of our whey processing facility.

Climate
The temperate climate allows cows to graze year-round on fresh pasture of clover, rye, and other native grasses.

Sustainability
With 100% of our milk coming from local dairies within a 90-mile radius, we greatly reduce the energy costs of transporting milk. The whey plant itself employs energy recovery systems, saving 43% on the energy required to dry the protein. Millions gallons of water per year and electricity are saved through water recirculation and electrical updates at our facilities.

Jersey Cows
Our farmers raise a heritage breed of cow know as a Jersey cow. Jersey cows have a 20% lower carbon footprint than the Holstein cow, the mostly widely used breed by dairy cow.1

(1) (J. L. Capper and R. A. Cady. A comparison of the environmental impact of Jersey compared with Holstein milk for cheese production J. Dairy Sci.95:165–176. (2012))

A2 Milk
Jersey cows produce A2 milk, whereas Holstein cows produce A1 milk. Recent research suggests that the protein structure found in A1 milk may play a negative role in certain health issues.

Filtration and Processing
Liquid organic whey undergoes cold-processed, ultra-filtration and a short-duration, low temperature drying process, to produce a powdered organic whey protein.

Acid- and Bleach-free processing. Independent testing for impurities, including heavy metals.

Did you know?
For every 1000 lbs of whey, 10 lbs. of our organic whey protein are produced.

Packaging
Our resealable packaging is free of phthalates, heavy metals, and genetically modified (GM) components.”

My Thoughts:

This brand of whey protein is one of a few different whey protein powders that I’ve been trying out and implementing into my marathon training routine. This protein by Source Organic is delicious and tastes real (because it is) unlike many other protein brands that taste chalky and fake.

I love how thorough the information on the Source website is regarding the process of making whey protein. They really give you a full picture of how they approach packaging organic whey protein. Other that some slight taste nuances between the various organic whey proteins that I’ve tried, I essentially the same overarching thoughts about all of them. All of them appear to be driven by creating a pure, healthy, organic product.

It’s hard to find protein powder that you look forward to using because it tastes so good. I am loving that I can mix this protein with anything I want–the vanilla has gone very well with any concoction I’ve come up with thus far. I like it best blended with almond milk and a few strawberries.

This is not the only whey protein on the market, obviously, but it is absolutely one of the highest quality. There are a few other lines of organic whey protein out there–I am finding that amongst those brands, most of them are comparable. These top organic whey protein brands appear passionate about producing whey protein that you can trust, which is more than what your typical store-bought protein can say for itself. By trust, I mean know that the protein is free of pesticides, GMOs, hormones and artificial junk.

Though I do not include other dairy products, I digest whey protein fine (in high-quality whey proteins, 100% of the lactose has been eliminated, thus it’s resemblance to milk is gone). Performance wise, I am on the top of the game in regards to running, lifting and requiring little recovery time. I believe that including organic whey protein in my diet has been a large part of that.

I also feel good about a brand that voices a concern for how the cows are taken care of and is against artificial hormone injection. The cows and us individuals ingesting the protein both benefit from that.

This protein is best put into a blender or a bpa-free plastic blender bottle. Stirring it with a spoon will not sufficiently break up the clumps. The higher quality whey proteins seem to be that way. The whey flavor goes well with merely any combination you can dream up. Anything that you would typically pair with milk would be a good choice.

I’d recommend this Source Organic whey protein to anyone looking for an organic, high quality whey protein powder to aid in muscle growth, maintaining lean body mass and improved recovery.
