Veo Active Probiotic Surface Cleaner Review

This is a review of Veo Probiotic Surface Cleaner.

We have been home owners for about 9 months now and we love having friends + family over for parties + get togethers. Also, we don’t have a dishwasher in our home, so I spend a good chunk of time cleaning!

My Belief in Non-Toxic Cleaners

Keeping the ingredients in our household cleaners, detergents & soaps non-toxic is vital to me. It’s just another extension of health and self-care. And you guys know I’m big time proponent of gut-health & probiotics. You already know probiotics are good for you when taken internally, but what about for our household? I didn’t even realize that probiotics in home cleaning formulas were a thing until recently. That’s why I love Veo Cleaner and how they harness the good bacteria-promoting characteristics of probiotics to keep your digs fresh!

What makes VEO Cleaner different?

-VEO works at the microscopic level for a deep hygienic clean in the cracks of your surfaces
-VEO keeps biodegrading hidden dirt & grime in cracks, grooves, and crevices for up to 3 days
-99% Biodegradable Formula
-VEO is free from Chlorine Bleach, Formaldehyde, Phosphates, Quats
-VEO is made from 100% Post-Consumer Recycled Plastic

My Experience with Veo Cleaner:

The most important thing to be is that our household cleaners don’t introduce an abundance of chemicals into our home. The second most important thing is that, of course, the product works. Third would likely be the smell.

It’s been so enjoyable using Veo Cleaner this first week because not only does it perform great (an effortless clean), but it smells sublime. The Apple & Jasmine scent is so refreshing and fruity. And–as their name suggests, the formula brings active probiotics onto all surfaces we use it on–which is such a neat perk.

I see us using this on almost any surface in our home, from the kitchen countertops, to our kitchen & coffee tables, and also our bathroom. Overall, very impressed with this brand, what they stand for, how they’ve changing how consumers view household cleaners and their passion for & belief in probiotics.

Seed Probiotic Review + Coupon Code

This post is sponsored by Seed Probiotic and contains a coupon code for you to save 15% on your first subscription with them.

My first month of Seed’s Daily Synbiotic (Probiotic + Prebiotic) just arrived! Love that they’re as committed to planetary health as they are to human health. #ad #accountable

Case in point: a Sustainable Refill System that starts with a beautiful glass jar and continues with monthly refills—no single-use plastic in sight. Major bonus: mushrooms grew this biodegradable packaging and it decomposes in soil within 30 days.

Daily Synbiotic

Two strains in their Daily Synbiotic formulation were examined in a study for their beneficial effects in relieving intestinal discomfort, bloating, and pain. Healthy pooping means healthy bacteria means healthy body!

Daily Synbiotic is a proprietary formulation of 20+ clinically-studied probiotic strains and probiotic compounds, developed for whole-body health (not just digestive health!) including heart, skin, immune, and metabolic health.

I love SO MUCH that it came with a glass travel case. It’s perfect for commuting, roadtrips, flying, etc. I’m excited to use it and reuse it for months to come.

Seed uses a 2-in-1 capsule to protect against stomach acid and ensure that the probiotic makes it to your colon. (The outer capsule is the prebiotic, the inner capsule is the probiotic.)

This is the probiotic that ironman phenom, 50-something-year-old Rich Roll has discussed 4+ times on his podcast. If it’s good enough for him, that means something to me for sureeee. There is some serious behind these products. If you’re interested in seeing what I mean, head over to their website for all the sciencey details.

Use code FEELMOREGOODER to get 15% off of your first subscription with Seed!

You guys will see more from this brand as I continue to use it and document my experience. Feel free to follow me along on Instagram, where I cover more of the day-to-day fitnessing, healthing and nutritioning. I would love to connect with all of you and share this common enthusiasm for living a healthy, vital life. See you over there!

Garden of Life Summit Rundown: Probiotics + Protein + Organic Farming

11265569_10105128153201759_8856359909073650562_n

The notion of possibly summarizing my entire weekend at the Garden of Life headquarters is an incredibly overwhelming task. There are SO many ideals that were brought to my attention, many that were even more cemented in my thinking, and a ton of new ideals that I’ve been inspired to ponder. To sum up my general emotion triggered by being a part of this summit, I left Palm Beach feeling:

Inspired. Driven. Hyped on supporting organic. Enthusiastic. Invigorated. Energized. Healthy.

I ate so much good (both good tasting and good for me!) foods while I was there, I truly did leave feeling superpowered. I drank my weight in local, green juice, ate a plentiful amount of locally-caught seafood and even dined at a farm-to-table restaurant.

In regards to the information, knowledge and inspiration that I acquired, here are the main take-aways that I grasped from this weekend that I am applying and taking into my everyday life.

Before I get into all of the details, I’ll just add that I am a FEELER. By that, I mean that I am largely influenced by how things make me feel–both as a result of the information I hear and how I feel when using a product. Thus, a lot of these tidbits from the summit really resonated with me, or I related strongly to because I have experienced the protein for myself. Scientific backup is great (many desire solely that), and Garden of Life has that to back up their products, but, I am an advocate for these products because I have witnessed first hand the impact that they have had on my health. I feel like the best version of Jesica when I am eating loads of organic, raw, plant based foods. This kind of supplementation is a gigantic part of that. I consider each of the Garden of Life products to be beyond “just a supplement,” because the quality is supreme and they are whole food-based, they are in a league of their own.

I have bolded some of my favorite parts!

1. “Probiotics” is not JUST a buzz word. Your body NEEDS them to function optimally.

-The standard American diet, pharmaceutical drugs, etc. have diminished our bodies’ good bacteria population in the gut. The effect on human health is profound.

-Supplementing the diet with probiotics is key is returning this good bacteria population back to a point where the digestive system can assimilate, absorb and process nutrients as it’s supposed to.

-“At Garden of Life, we are greens, we are probiotics. It’s who are are.” -Sherri Gunn, Garden of Life.

-“So much more can be done with health & prevention.” -Dawn Jarvis, Garden of Life.

-There are trillions of microbial organisms in your body. You help the good microbes thrive by eating a rich, whole food based diet that limits processed foods.

-A natural, whole food diet without pesticides, GMOs helps heal the gut.

-Good bacteria in the gut helps protect against the bad bacteria. So, we need the good bacteria.

-Digestive health is responsible for absorption of all of the food we eat, which contributes to our overall vitality. That’s why gut health is such a focus.

2. Supporting organic is, indeed, so very important.

-“I do this because it means a lot.” -Jeff Brams, Garden of Life

-Traceability, sourcing, transparency and sustainability are so important in acquiring raw materials  ingredients.

-Supporting organic, family farms drives economic change. “This is the mission.” – Jeff Brams, Garden of Life

-GoL elevates the success of villages in Africa by sourcing from them.

-Biodynamic farming is utilized and valued. You must farm the soil, not the plants. It’s about the “symphony of the soil.”

3. Protein. Why so important?

-Your entire body requires protein to maintain itself, rebuild, repair and build.

-Whole food supplements are faster and more effective because they are assimilated like real food.

-Protein helps build muscle–then muscle helps clean sugar out of your system.

-Protein lowers ghrelin, a hormone that stimulates hunger.

-Branch Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) don’t have to go thru the liver. They go straight to the muscle. This reduces lactic acid, aids recovery.

-Protein isolates are not the same as whole food based proteins because they cause the blood sugar to rise.

-“High quality protein has a satiating effect on the body.”-Jeff Brams, Garden of Life.

-“Protein is the original energy drink–it just provides energy through a different mechanism.” -Jeff Brams, Garden of Life

-Assaults to digestive tract causes inability to absorb protein (processed foods, pharmaceutical drugs, gluten, excess sugar, lack of good bacteria in the gut)

4. Tidbits on Garden of Life Proteins

Organic Plant Protein (OPP) created because of “grain free” demand, because customers want taste & texture. Contains more fermented ingredients (& nutrients due to superfood content), whereas GoL’s Raw Protein contains more sprouted. Fermented & sprouted ingredients are more easily digested than an unprepped seed.

-Unprepped seeds do not want to be digested. They want to be transported and deposited in a new home. Nature’s example: squirrels plant acorns, let them sprout and then eat them.

-Variety of proteins in one blend makes it work–gives you a complete amino acid chain.

Organic Plant Protein contains the superfoods baobab (acts as a prebiotic) & moringa (combats malnutrition).

Raw Meal has more protein & acts as a meal replacement, with significant amounts of fat, carbs and protein. Contains high nutrient content, thus less cravings and helps you feel fuller longer.

Raw Fit contains Fucothin (green coffee bean extract) which regulates and balances blood sugar.

-Adding power packed protein & superfood blends like these to your diet helps proliferate good microbes in your body.

5. Inflammation

-“The cornerstone of all disease is inflammation.” -Dawn Jarvis, Garden of Life

-Sugar encourages inflammation.

-Keep out artificial sweeteners that are causing oxidative stress.

6. Ingredients

-“We are fanatical about ingredients.” -Dawn Jarvis, Garden of Life

-14 strains of probiotics makeup GoL probiotics products

-Made cold, shipped cold

-Dawn Jarvis has an incredible resume with experience being a nutritionist for Wimbledon, yet one of my favorite quotes of her lecture is: “We use the organic stuff.”

-A little “did you know” from this weekend…”Flamingos are pink because of the large amount of antioxidants that they consume.”

Health Ade Kombucha Review

This is a review of Health Ade Kombucha.

20140417-140009.jpg

Health Ade

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

About Health Ade:

“Health-Ade was formed by 3 very close friends, all looking to bring a BETTER kombucha to the Southern California market. Founded in Los Angeles, Health-Ade is made the “old-fashioned” way–as nature intended–dedicated to offering the highest quality and best tasting kombucha one can buy. They do this by committing to things like: pulling out all the stops to ensure the culture is healthy and strong, using only local and seasonal farmers’ market fruit for flavor, and keeping harmful plastic and UVs away from the entire fermentation and bottling process.

Origins

Made 100% in Los Angeles, Health-Ade also works hard to support the local community, as demonstrated by their efforts in growing Farmers’ Markets, their collaboration with regional non-profits such as Home-Boy Industries, and their drive to increase understanding and importance of health and wellness.

Health-Ade kombucha comes in our original formula, as well as 4 other tasty seasonal flavors. Remember, for the highest quality, we only use local seasonal, and organic produce for flavoring. Take your pick and make it a habit!

Why Drink Health-Ade?

Though different brands of kombucha are somewhat prevalent in health food stores today, most of these interpretations have a compromised quality due to efforts in mass production and hastening fermentation. Unfortunately, this has resulted in many products falling short of the real deal, often higher in sugar than ever intended.

Health-Ade Is

  • made using only organic and whole ingredients
  • produced by using the original recipe
  • 100% naturally fermented
  • flavored with local and seasonal farmers’ market fruit
  • made in small batches right here in LA
  • fermented and produced only in glass
  • manufactured and bottled in UV-sensitive environments
  • 100% raw, vegan, natural, and gluten-free
  • made, down to the bottle, in the USA

Health-Ade Is Not

  • made with genetically engineered sugars or powdered teas
  • made using concentrates, dilutions, dyes, or powders
  • hastening fermentation with added chemicals and powders
  • mass-produced and / or outsourced
  • fermented in plastic, potentially causing leaching
  • exposed to harmful UV light, potentially depleting its probiotic count
  • pasteurized (kills 50%+ of the probiotic) or unnatural
  • made and bottled overseas, impacting our Earth and economy.”

My Thoughts:

Ahhhh… Kombucha. Bubbly, delicious, a bit sweet, satisfying. I can’t get enough. I love the ritual of opening a new bottle and taking the first gulp of effervescent splendor. I’ve found this drink can also help you to curb cravings and feel fill, as this bubbly drink temporarily creates the illusion that your stomach is full.

At this point, I’ve tried several brands of Kombucha–some great and some not quite as great. I have a few specs that I look for when I try a new kind.

My Preferred Kombucha Specs

-Bubbly, packs a punch

-Delicious and unique flavors

-Organic ingredients

Health Ade Kombucha meets all three of those qualifications, AND to top it off–the icing on the cake; they use and support local ingredients. To me, that is huge and it sets them apart from the other brands. Not only do they value organic, pure ingredients but they also see the importance of supporting local farmers and harvests. I just love that.

These flavors are all very tasty, interesting and unique in their own right. The newest kombucha flavor (to my palate) was the Cayenne Cleanse. As you can imagine, this one is zippy and heats up your mouth right away. It has just the right amount of heat–any more and it might be a bit too much for me.

But, I love that they use cayenne, as this pepper offers metabolism boosting benefits! If I had to pick one flavor as my favorite, it would have to be Pomegranate. It’s tart and fruity with a kick of sweetness. It’s delicious. I’d pick the California Grape as my runner up.

New to Kombucha?

If you have yet to try Kombucha, dive in! Especially if you are still a soda drinker, Kombucha is a MUCH healthier alternative to other carbonated beverages. I’d recommend these to anyone who is looking to enhance their digestion and overall health.

My Thoughts:

Kevita drinks are a unique division of health drinks, as they focus on boosting digestive health via a low-calorie mixture that is packed with organic ingredients and probiotics. Digestion is an important aspect of your health because without digestive efficacy, our bodies cannot absorb all of the nutrients that we take in. Ingesting probiotics helps to keep your stomach’s healthy bacteria in balance–which in turn helps keep the lining healthy and ready to do it’s job (absorb).

Similar to kombucha (but not quite as effervescent as kombucha), Kevita offers an expansive range of flavors, each of which is interesting, refreshing and tasty in its own right.

These drinks are suitable for individuals who abide by a plethora of diets, as they are vegan, dairy free, lactose free, gluten free and free of added sugar. Those facts make it easy for me to recommend to a wide range of individuals with specific dietary needs.

Quality wise, you can see on their labeling that Kevita drinks are certified organic and non-gmo–two important specs that I look for in all products that I buy frequently. On top of quality, these drinks are easy to find if you have a health food store like Natural Grocers or Whole Foods close to you. You can locate them in close proximity to kombucha and coconut water in most stores that carry it.

Taste wise, these drinks are tasty and light–not as heavy as fruit juice. The “sparkling” characteristic of the drink makes it refreshing and satisfying, though it only contains about 10 calories per serving. I’d urge soda drinkers to give this drink a try. These drinks provide nutrients via organic ingredients, whereas sodas can’t claim anything close to that. My favorites of the bunch are the Mango Coconut and the Tangerine. They are the perfect drinks to pair with your summer activities.

Though the low-calorie feature is nice, I don’t focus on it–especially if the ingredients are organic and nutritionally robust. That said, my suggested improvement with these drinks is for them to contain a few more ingredients that make them closer to a meal in regards to how filling they are. I also wish the flavors were a little bit stronger and more intense (they likely are not because of the low calorie content).
