Phytoceramides

About:

“Each one of our premium formulas is created by a team of highly experienced professionals to ensure the greatest benefits are achieved.

Key Health & Beauty Benefits

Our superior Phytoceramides with Biotin act by replacing the skin’s lost Ceramides. They add essential elements into the skin to combat the natural effects of time which, if untreated, eventually results in aged skin. Phytoceramides may also stimulate the body to synthesize collagen – its primary function is to plump up the skin and maintain its natural elasticity for supple, radiant and youthful skin.

Natural and Allergen Free

Using only the latest technologies we are able to develop products free of GMOs, allergens, and other harmful additives.”

Probiotic (40 Billion CFU)

About:

“Schwartz Bioresearch Probiotic 40 Billion CFU’s is a powerful blend of 4 scientifically studied Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus strains and 40 billion colony forming units (CFU’s).

High Quality Strains to Guarantee Potency until Expiration

We guarantee high-quality, shelf stable probiotic strains which maintain at least 10 billions CFU until expiration date and survive harsh stomach acids to reach the intestinal tract where they exert their greatest benefits. Most probiotics have weak strains that don’t survive the shipping and storing processes, let alone stomach acids and bile. Some manufactures are even offering probiotics with a coating full of chemicals so the weak strains won’t die in the stomach. We are some of the very few who can guarantee potency until expiration date, the strength of our probiotic lies in the high quality strains we work with, not in artificial coatings.

Made Only with Natural Ingredients

Schwartz Bioresearch Probiotics are Vegetarian and Gluten-Free. Our supplement is FREE of lactose, soy, wheat, nuts, iron, sugar, chemicals and artificial colors.

Each Lot is Extensively Tested

The potency, purity and content of each batch of probiotics are extensively analyzed by professionals before its release. The ingredients in our products are 100% natural, and we use no binders or fillers of any sort.

Long Shelf Life & No Refrigeration Necessary

Our high-quality probiotic supplement is shelf stable and doesn’t need refrigeration; and it has a guaranteed shelf life of 18 months from the date of manufacture.”

L-Carnitine Tartrate

About:

“Doctor Formulated L-Carnitine Tartrate for Heart and Muscle Health

Schwartz Bioresearch L-Carnitine Tartrate 1000mg is superior from all others. Carnitine burns fat, promotes cardiovascular health, speeds up muscle recovery and boosts physical performance. Our supplement is designed to deliver definite results.

Excellent Results

The use of our L-Carnitine Tartrate will cut down the recovery time between high intensity exercises, boost cellular energy and burn fat, constituting an infallible fat burning combo. High levels of muscle L-Carnitine decrease lactic acid production, aiding in fast muscle recovery.”

My Experience:

I just completely geek out over the entire process of putting good things into my body. Along with that comes a lot of troubleshooting in terms of helping my body become balanced (hormones, sleep patterns, etc.).

Schwartz Bioresearch is a brand I had yet to hear about, but I am intrigued by what they are doing. Here are my general thoughts about supplementing with specific vitamins + minerals + compounds to achieve a desired goal:

  1. There is a space for it.
  2. Nothing makes up for a nutrient dense diet packed with a lot of organic, raw foods.
  3. Long term balance will be achieved through habitual dietary changes, but can be expedited in the short term with supplements that target specific deficits.

Basically, I view the Phytoceramides and L-Carnitine Tartrate products (naturally occurring substances and amino acids in the body) as a way to specifically target the resiliency of my integumentary system (hair + skin + nails) and aid my exercise recovery + optimize cellular metabolism. Short version, I’d look to improve my skin + hair + maximize power output + burn more body fat + perform better by taking these.

I don’t think that taking a supplement like this is something I could get behind all the time, but I think the timing of this post is appropriate.

Let’s be really real. Most of overdid it a bit over the holidays. Even if we made a few paleo desserts + meals and kept it mostly clean, it likely varied from the everyday grind that normally keeps us functioning at a high level. Because of that time we enjoyed, it’s going to take a bit more momentum + more gusto to get that train rolling just as fast.

A time like this is when I’d integrate these supplements. L-Carnitine Tartrate to ramp up my workouts and recover faster, the Probiotic to help my gut proliferate good bacteria and Phytoceramides to strengthen my drier-than-usual winter hair and keep my skin vibrant.

I wish the probiotic contained a few more strands in it, making it more of a complete probiotic supplement. Overall, I felt pretty happy with how these products performed, as they’ve helped catapult me into the New Year. My skin and hair both feel noticeably healthy and I’m feeling closer to being my normal self after struggling with an upper back injury for several months now. I know these supplements played a role in that.

A finishing note about the product quality–I’m itching to learn more about the sourcing and development of these products, I’m not completely sure how they are in regards to being non-GMO + organic. It appears that Schwartz Bioresearch is committed to creating products that are “vegetarian and free of gluten, lactose, soy, wheat, nuts, iron, sugar, chemicals and artificial colors.” (at least their probiotic is listed that way), which is encouraging.

I have noticed that delineating and comprehending the quality of a supplement starts to get trickier the further away from whole food based it becomes. The more isolated it becomes, the tougher it is to be sure of the origin. Make sense?

I enjoyed giving these products a try. Feel free to check out the Schwartz Bioresearch website and see if they are a good fit for you.

Garden of Life Dr. Formulated Probiotics Review

This is a review of Garden of Life’s Dr. Formulated Probiotics.

Garden of Life Dr. Formulated Probiotics

If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you’ve likely noticed that I sing the praises of this brand as much as I breathe. Okay, okay……not that much. But, I am a believer in what this brand does. I use their products daily and have been a lucky beneficiary of the health benefits they provide.

I was lucky enough to tour & hang out in their headquarters earlier this year in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and was blown away by the people, the passionate minds behind these products, and their commitment to quality.

Garden of Life teamed up with renowned Dr. David Perlmutter to create this line of products health that hone in on the mothership of all absorption: your digestive system. These probiotic supplements are unparalleled in the world of probies. They even ship them cold so that they retain their longevity.

Blah, blah, blah, right? Maybe some of you just want to hear the answer to: “Why do I need to take these and what are they going to do for my body?”

The short answer:

Probiotics will help you become healthier, get leaner, have clearer skin, sustain more energy and absorb more of the good food you’re eating. Better absorption means more health. I’ve lived it.

The longer answer: (I’ll offer this up because it left a lasting impression on me (something I learned from one of many lectures at the Garden of Life headquarters):

“Probiotics” is not JUST a buzz word. Your body NEEDS them to function optimally.

-The standard American diet, pharmaceutical drugs, etc. have diminished our bodies’ good bacteria population in the gut. The effect on human health is profound.

-Supplementing the diet with probiotics is key is returning this good bacteria population back to a point where the digestive system can assimilate, absorb and process nutrients as it’s supposed to.

-“At Garden of Life, we are greens, we are probiotics. It’s who are are.” -Sherri Gunn, Garden of Life.

-“So much more can be done with health & prevention.” -Dawn Jarvis, Garden of Life.

-There are trillions of microbial organisms in your body. You help the good microbes thrive by eating a rich, whole food based diet that limits processed foods.

-A natural, whole food diet without pesticides, GMOs helps heal the gut.

-Good bacteria in the gut helps protect against the bad bacteria. So, we need the good bacteria.

-Digestive health is responsible for absorption of all of the food we eat, which contributes to our overall vitality. That’s why gut health is such a focus.

If you made it this far reading this post, I am here giving you a virtual hug. Thank you. I know it’s a lot.

But, I say all of this to say: probiotics can REALLY help you in myriad of ways. I am a huge proponent of them. I use them and I feel a difference when I do.

Thanks for supporting ROO! Here’s to our health–cheers!

SCD Essential Probiotics® combines state-of-the art probiotic science with artisanal manufacturing. This proprietary consortia technology delivers a probiotic unmatched in type and activity. It supports healthy digestion and immune health.

Advanced Liquid Delivery
Most microbial technologies today are based on “pure culture” methods of manufacturing. This means the microorganisms are grown as individual strains in a sterile environment. If a finished product contains more than a strain, each strain is typically grown in pure culture then blended at time of packaging. SCD Essential Probiotics® is fundamentally different because the selected strains are grown in “consortia,” a process of co-growth that combines multiple strains during production. Therefore, each strain develops while interacting with other strains.

Through our proprietary manufacturing process, the microorganisms become a small eco system – much more resilient and capable of working together synergistically. This methodology is similar to how microorganisms survive in the natural environment. In nature, strains never exist in isolation or pure culture. They are always interacting with other strains.

How SCD Essential Probiotics® Consortia Technology Works
We all have a digestive tract populated by a microbial ecology. We are not born with many intestinal ‘helpers’ or good bacteria. Instead they must be introduced into our system via the food we eat and drink.

Try as we might, we don’t always make the healthiest food choices and that can be lead to an imbalance in our ecology – more bad bacteria than good – which can lead to a number of digestive issues. The use of antibiotics and certain medical conditions can also cause a reduction of healthy digestive microflora. The repetitive introduction of beneficial probiotics found in SCD Essential Probiotics® will ensure that healthy microbes dominate the harmful ones.

Usage Directions:
Adults and Children 12 and up: Mix 1 Tbsp. with smoothie, juice or water daily.

Children 2 to 12: Mix 1 tsp. with smoothie, juice or water daily.

My Thoughts:

I am such a huge proponent of probiotics because I have felt first hand what probiotics can do for my body, my gut and my overall livelihood. They really help keep my digestion regulated, my body feeling balanced and my abdominal bloating down.

When comparing SCD probiotics to other brands, I find myself really appreciating the fact that they use organic ingredients in addition to the probiotic cultures. You’re getting healthy, clean ingredients AND gut-pampering bacteria: awesome!

I take a gulp out of the bottle every morning on an empty stomach and find that works for me–as I won’t forget to take it and my tummy starts the day off on the right foot, so to speak. The flavor of the drink itself is a bit robust–but I’m used to consuming all kinds of vinegar-rich-tasting drinks so it was no big deal for me. I can see some people may want to amp up the flavor or sweetness by mixing it into a smoothie or boosting a shot of it with some stevia.

Probiotics are an absolute must for me these days. When I am trying to achieve optimum healthy, they are a facet of my diet that I do not overlook. I highly recommend this brand (They are also local to me–from Kansas city!) Their customer service has been nothing short of knowedgable, helpful & attentive as well. All good things with SCD Probiotics!

My Thoughts:

I am totally into the notion that our digestive systems are big-time important for overall health for two main reasons:

-Digestion directly effects the immune system

-Efficiency of digestion is vital in helping you retain the nutrients in what you eat

I feel good about the habits I’ve formed that help contribute to my healthy gut. Fermented foods and raw food containing probiotics are two great routes to pamper your digestion.

I can’t tell you how excited I was to see a cold-pressed, raw, organic juice line that harnesses the digestive health-boosting benefits of probiotics in addition to hearty & robust fruits and vegetables. Hello drink wonderment!

I fell in love with Garden of Flavor after reading their mantra: “Nature. We have nothing more to add.” It’s perfect–& it tells me that they have a good head on their shoulders, so to speak, in regards to healthy nutrition. No bogus ingredients, just the good stuff.

Along with my belief in fruits and vegetables, I am a firm proponent that herbs and spices can really have a massive & positive effect on your wellbeing and livelihood. Garden of Flavor includes cinnamon, turmeric, parsley, mint and ginger in their drinks. The Turmeric Tonic they sent me to try had a zippy, light zing to it. What a combination of flavors! The lemon, ginger, mint, turmeric, agave & cayenne made for a complex yet really enjoyable drink.

Whenever I need that extra boost of pep in my stem, or just an overall lively, refreshed feeling, I look to greens. I drink at least one huge jar of homemade, blended green drink every day, but I also value the convenience of having a bottle in the fridge ready to drink. Also, Garden of Flavor adds more goodies to their green drinks that make it an even more power-packed drink. I found the Mean Green to be a big green punch in the face (the best kind) with a zesty lightness from the lemon. The apples and cucumber in the Green Harmony take a little bit of the green edge off, if you find that a big much if you’re new to raw, green juice. Sometimes I just want the greens, no sugary taste, just earthy goodness. In that case, I’d pick the Mean Green. Otherwise, the Green Harmony does the trick. That’s not to say that the Green Harmony is loaded with sugar since it contains the apples–it’s not. You can just tell a tiny bit of difference in the sweet aftertaste.

Garden of Flavor juices offer all of the specs that I look for at this point in my life when I consider nutrition. They’re organic, raw, living, cold-pressed. Basically, they GET IT! They get what the body needs. They’ve bottled it–and they’ve done it well.

Kudos to Garden of Flavor for creating a fresh, health-serving take on the increasingly more common cold-pressed juice. I will be coming back for more! I can’t wait to try all of the other juice combinations.

Perfect Nutrients

Mushrooms are an important source vegetarian protein and fiber. Most mushrooms are low calorie, low carbohydrate, and fat free. Mushrooms provide vitamin D as well as many of the B vitamins. Mushrooms are also an important source of mineral such as copper, selenium, potassium, phosphorus, zinc, and magnesium.

Hemp is the only known source of edestin, a plant protein that is nearly identical to the protein found in human blood. Edestin aids in DNA repair at a cellular level. Hemp is considered a complete protein meaning that it contains all essential and non-essential amino acids. Hemp also contains an ideal 3:1 ratio of omega 6 to omega 3. Hemp is also one of few vegan sources of the fatty acid GLA. This super food protein is also rich with vitamins B, D, and E.

__________________________________________________

My Thoughts:

I’ve been lucky enough to try a vast range of protein powders in recent years. Normally it goes something like this:

-if it’s a vegan protein, it normally has brown rice protein as the foundation

-if it’s a non-vegan, it normally has whey as the main component

While I welcome and use both plant-based and whey proteins in my diet, I’ve found this “Perfect Plant Protein” to be one of the highest quality and most unique of them all. This blend is comprised of hemp protein and mushroom protein (in addition to brown rice protein). There aren’t many protein blends that utilize the powers contained in mushrooms, so I was intrigued by this trio even before trying it.

Taste-wise, this powder is a little bit chalky (actually, not in a bad way). It’s just very dense, with a slight vanilla flavor. For those that love a thick smoothie, this powder is perfect. If you like your smoothie to be more liquid-y, I’d recommend adding more than the recommended amount of milk (almond or coconut milk). You can also crack an egg into your smoothie to improve the texture of the concoction (I’m not here to debate eating raw eggs, just simply stating that I consume an organic, raw egg almost every day. A raw egg’s nutritional value far surpasses a cooked egg).

As it’s evident, I’m someone who believes strongly in the healing powers of plants, but am not a “vegan.” I just want to focus on the caliber of the food I’m eating. I aim for minimally processed, organic, raw food as much as I can–and this protein fits in that regime.

I also love that the labeling mentions “enzymes and probiotics for optimal digestive health.” I am aware that many foods naturally contain levels of probiotics and enzymes that contribute to a healthy gut. I’m not sure if these benefits are especially true for mushrooms, but it doesn’t seem like many protein brands state that on their label. It certainly peaks my interest knowing that my body is receiving more than just a hefty dose of protein.

I see this protein as a fantastic option for anyone–regardless of dietary restrictions. It’s very satisfying & filling, tasteful and comprised of excellent ingredients. It boasts a certified organic label (if you seek that) and is just one amongst a wide range of organic products that Perfect Supplements makes. I encourage you to give this protein a try.
