Nuzest Clean Lean Protein + Supplements Review + Coupon Code!

This post is about my experience with Nuzest and how i’ve incorporated these protein and superfood powders into my routine.

In the vast array of protein brands on the market nowadays, it’s becoming increasingly hard to decipher the good from the bad, the real from the fake and the nourishing from the depleted. I tend to look to some of the top Crossfit Games athletes for supplement ideas when I’m curious to try a new brand. Jamie Greene is a top female Crossfit Athlete competing out of the UAE. I was scrolling through her Instagram feed when I discovered the brand Nuzest. I briefly checked out their website, some of their ingredient lists, and I quickly realized that this brand is doing things right.

Nuzest’s products are vegan, non-gmo, gluten free, soy free, nut free and nut free. The ingredients in their protein powders are intentional and clean. Perhaps the TASTIEST part of this review is that these have got to be some of the best-tasting protein powders I’ve ever tried. They are truly delicious; you feel like you’re drinking a yummy, satisfying shake, not a healthy meal replacement. I stumbled on the insane combination of combining a serving the Rich Chocolate Clean Lean Protein and the Cacao Banana Quick Vita Kick–my goodness. It was so unexpectedly good. It shakes up and combines easily in a blender bottle, giving it a creamy texture without any powdery clumps.

Here’s a snapshot of the products I got to sample! I tried three of the their products in a range of flavors. The products include their Clean Lean Protein, Just Fruit & Veg, and their Quick Vita Kick.

It’s hard to choose a favorite flavor of each product because they are all really stellar in their own regard. However, I will say that I normally tend to reach for vanilla, and their Vanilla Clean Lean Protein did not disappoint.

Here’s a glimpse of the ingredient list of each product along with their macronutrient breakdowns:

Helio Today: Ketogenic Meal Replacement + Greens Powder Review

This post is a review + my experience with Helio Today ketogenic friendly protein & greens powder.

In 5 years of living in Kansas City, I’ve met some neat, healthy-minded brand owners coming out of this seemingly low-key midwest town. Helio Today is one of the cooler ones! I like this brand a lot because these products fit into my approach to eating quite well.

I tend to dial up my plant based fats and dial down my carb consumption when I’m looking to get leaner without sacrificing optimum performance in the Crossfit gym. I’ve learned that an adequate amount of good fats give me sustained energy that keeps me going all day.

About Helio Today

The Brand

Our name is an homage to Galileo. For nearly a century, the people of the time neglected Copernicus’ Heliocentric model. Galileo knew it to be true, and with the invention of his telescope, he was able to prove that we, Earth, do in fact go around the sun, by showing the revolutions of Venus’ moons around it.

This is not only a story of perseverance and belief, but also of wit and progression.

Once the Heliocentric model was proven, everything began to shift. We started to question our place in the heavens like we never had.

Similarly, we are on a quest to flip the assumptions, choices, and options in the food and nutrition world.

Health is simpler than you probably think. Three square meals and shiny spoons are both symptoms of a system that has created an unbelievable amount of dis-ease, illness, and obesity.

By shrinking your eating windows, by becoming a qualitarian, by making wise macro decisions, and by flooding your body with a ridiculous amount of nutrition, it is absolutely possible to live vibrantly.

Join us in our quest to be alive and bright; like the sun.

The Lab

Before we started this company, all of us are coming from within the nutrition industry. We all knew that the holy grail of nutrition quality and control comes with manufacturing in-house.

Our ability to test, touch, taste, and tweak our products has allowed for exponential progress that we pass on to you, the consumer; flavor, texture, quality.

We started formulating in 2016, and by now, 2 years later, we are so proud of what we are making for you, and shipping to you.

My Experience

As I mentioned at the beginning of the post, My biological make-up and specific body type really thrives off of a higher plant based fat diet. I’m learning that more and more individuals are finding their bodies so as well. Keto is turning into a buzz work of sorts, but for good reason. Low fat diets are becoming a thing of the past.

I REALLY enjoyed the flavor of both the greens powder and the Dawn shake mix. I like drinking my greens powder mid day in place of a caffeine fix right before an afternoon workout. I was impressed with how good it tasted and how rad the ingredients are (milk thistle for liver health? CHECK) and that’s just naming one ingredient. There are many more energizing superfoods in this blend, not just greens.

The satiability of the Dawn mix is awesome–I love how full and replenished I feel after a meal higher in plant based fats. It provides me with sustained energy to tackle anything and everything I have ahead that day. With a bazillion ways to prepare this mix, I don’t think you could ever get bored with it. I personally prefer just throwing it into a blender bottle with some hemp or almond milk. But, as you can see in one of the above photos from the Helio site, it would be excellent as a smoothie bowl base, especially because of it’s thickness.

Give this brand a try and check out all the radness they’re putting out on social media:

Tailwind Nutrition Endurance Fuel + Rebuild Protein Review

This post is a review + my experience with Tailwind Nutrition’s Rebuild Recovery Blend & Endurance Fuel.

unnamed.jpg

Tailwind Nutrition is a pretty seriously dope brand based out of Durango, CO. Their focus is on glycogen + electrolyte + energy replenishment for endurance athletes.

I have a full marathon and several halfs under my belt; and running is still a regular part of my training. However, most of my time is spent in a Crossfit gym.

The first Tailwind product I tried (Endurance Fuel-pictured in the orange bag) is awesome game day fuel. I also see it as a great source of readily-absorbed carbs for right when I wrap up a hard workout. Through my experience with grueling crossfit workouts. I’ve learned that my body + recovery respond really well to carb backloading. In other words, right after a workout my focus is carbs and water. Doing this right after a workout helps you bounce back and hormones in check (also prevents your cortisol levels from staying up).

That said, protein is super important for my sport as well. I’m not someone who advocates a ton of animal protein consumption, in fact I always take vegan protein with the exception of collagen and beef bone broth. I love that this Rebuild blend by Tailwind packs 10g of protein per serving, while also giving your body the carbs it needs to replenish your energy stores.

unnamed (1).jpg

The ingredients are clean, and I like the choice to use rice protein, as it’s vegan and also is one of the most bioavailable proteins (easily absorbed and used by your body). This blend also features several amino acids that aid in recovery. You can tell they thought about this one!

Taste wise, I found both blends to be light and milky tasting, definitely pleasant. Though they have a carb content, they don’t taste super sweet. I would add some almond or hemp milk to it for optimum flavor + thickness + satiety. I’d say definitely drinkable with just water though.

My boyfriend, who is a Crossfit + Track & Field coach, was my second set of taste buds. He said he definitely enjoy it more when mixed with a plant based milk for a little more body and sweetness.

Tailwind is still in Beta with this product, and I’m just stoked that I have had the priviledge to try it first! It will be available SO SUPER SOON THOUGH (March 12th!) through their website.

Endurance athletes who are looking for a dose of protein are in for a treat. It’s the same great Tailwind quality just with more of recovery bang. I’d also recommend it to anyone doing high intensity training who is looking for a carb + protein duo to keep in their gym bag.

ROO Nutrition Whey Protein Review

This post is a review + my experience with ROO Nutrition Whey Protein.

If you guys follow me on instagram, you’ve already seen how much time I spend doing Crossfit and tearing apart my muscles on the daily (gimme. that. protein!).

In addition to that, I’ve recently been learning about the importance of rotating what you’re eating (basically not eating the same thing all the time) to avoid developing food sensitivities. An example of this would be consuming almond everything, everyday (almond milk, almond butter, almond flour), it’s likely that you will then find you become sensitive to almond after a while.

This can be the case for proteins and other foods you eat a lot of. Every body is different, but for me, I’m trying this approach and I’m liking it right now.

On rotating proteins…

Like we just got into, too much of anything isn’t going to be super awesome for you (and may encourage certain food intolerances, meanwhile), so i’m trying a rotation with protein powders to dodge this.

I was STOKED to hear from ROO Nutrition. (we have the same name!!!! sorta). I’ve been adding their whey protein powder into my daily post-workout (sometimes intra workout) shake. It’s super clean + organic: very cool. The texture if fluffy and light. When you shake + combine it with a plant based milk in a blender bottle, it makes such a delicous + filling + smooth + desserty.
I haven’t done whey in while, but after 10 weeks of food elimination, I found that my dairy sensitivity went away along with the heavy metals that I detoxed out of my system (heavy metal toxicity and food sensitivities are often linked). Though whey is free of lactose, i just chose to stay away since it is a derivative of dairy.

That said, I’ve known many professional athletes, namely Laird Hamilton + Gabrielle Reece taut whey as one of the most bioavailable protein powder sources.

That has certainly been my experience with ROO’s protein so far.

I’ve been drinking plant based protein for so long that i forgot how good whey tastes. The other days, I’m rotating the following proteins into the mix: sacha inchi, pea, brown rice, hemp, casein and beef bone broth protein. When it’s whey day in my protein rotation I get excited! It’s so delicious.
