The Eczema Company: Manuka Honey Eczema Cream Review

The Eczema Company: Manuka Honey Eczema Cream by Yoro Naturals

About:

creamy balm thick in texture and rich in emollients, the Manuka Honey Skin Cream is our top seller because it moisturizes even the dryest of skin. Organic New Zealand Manuka honey is combined with organic tree nut-free oils and beeswax to create this gentle, nourishing Manuka honey eczema product that will not burn or sting the skin. Our “Manuka cream” is a surprisingly soft and creamy oil based balm, rather than a true water based eczema cream that’s excellent for soothing and calming irritated skin.

What is Manuka honey and Manuka Oil?

Manuka honey is native to New Zealand and is created when bees pollinate the Manuka bush, a relative of the tea tree. Manuka oil is extracted from the leaves of the Manuka bush. Manuka oil is actually 10 times more potent than tea tree oil. Manuka and tea tree oil are ancient remedies used worldwide for a variety of ailments. Unlike the very medicinal odor of tea tree oil, Manuka oil and honey have a lovely delicately sweet scent. What else makes Manuka honey so incredible? It contains 1,000 times more methylglyoxal than other forms of honey. Methylglyoxal is what gives honey it’s anti-bacterial properties and which makes honey so beneficial.

The level of methylglyoxal in manuka honey is 1,000 times greater than most regular honeys

  • Great for soothing dry skin.
  • Active 16+ Manuka honey from New Zealand – 3rd party lab certified.
  • Hand Crafted.

  • Made in Canada.

My Experience:

My facial complexion was been a focus of my self-care since I was a teenager. I battled cystic acne for many years. While that’s a thing of my past and I rarely get breakouts, I do have an uneven complexion due to sunspots and redness (likely related to what I’m eating).

Of course, what I put on my skin also effects how it looks. I use exclusively clean skincare (almost always 100% organic, with the exception of the makeup I wear). Even though my skincare routine is clean and my diet is mostly healthy + nourishing, I’m human and imperfect. There are days I don’t drink enough water, splurge on food here and there and/or drink several rum + club sodas.

While I do my best to not attach any guilt nor shame to those things, I do realize that my skin is a reflection of what’s going on inside my body. I’m always open to experiment with skincare to help reduce my facial puffiness, redness and uneven skin tone.

I was excited to collab again (you can read my thoughts on some of their other products here) with the Eczema Company to try this product and compile my experience in a blog post.

I’ve always been aware and a fan of Manuka honey and the myriad benefits if can provide for many aspects of overall wellness. It’s been a long time since I’ve used it on my skin, and I don’t believe I’ve ever used a Manuka honey based skincare product of this quality. I like that it contains Olive oil (I like to rotate my facial oils and most of them contain a nut-based oil).

I’ve been applying this Manuka Honey Eczema cream to my face (with a focus on my red cheek area) at night on a fresh face after cleansing) for about a week now. I don’t think that the redness on my face is eczema, but I do think it can be helped by a cream that targets inflammation.

So far, I can definitely tell a difference in my skin redness. Very encouraging!

Diet + boozing impacts my skin quite a bit, so i never expect a face product to be a cure all. but when it makes a noticeable difference, it’s so rad. HONEY FTW 🍯

My Thoughts:

I am fortunate that I do not get sick often. It’s been quite a while since something was ailing me so badly that I needed to take cough syrup or apply a vapor rub. Though I don’t find myself needing these products often, I love that there are organic options available for me to look to when needed.

Also, for those with kids, it’s hard to accurately describe the peace of mind it gives you to know that what you’re using with your children is free of crummy ingredients and is actually good for their little growing bodies.

I’m pretty psyched at the ultra clean ingredient list of the cough syrup. The obvious improvement I’d make with the vapor rub is to make the ingredients organic. If you’re going to commit to using natural ingredients like essential oils, I figure you may as well use the best. Know that is my opinion with a very discerning eye. These products are so incredibly far ahead of what you typically find in the drug store, there is truly no comparison.

Other drug store products for treating the same symptoms are potentially doing more harm than good, while these Maty’s products are healing effectively by means of organic, plant-derived ingredients.

I tried these products not needing them. In other words, I was sick and needing relief–so I cannot fully comment on the effectiveness of them alleviating discomfort and pain. But, I did find the cough syrup to be very calming & soothing after drinking it. It also has good stay power as far as keeping your throat coated. The honey flavor really tastes nice and isn’t hard to palate.

I love what the vapor rub does. I could see myself using this just to feel revived, awakened and rejuvenated. The minty, fresh aroma and experience of the eucalyptus, peppermint and wintergreen trio is absolutely intoxicating. It really opens up your airways and even livens up your eyes and makes you look more awake.

The Diva Cup: Menstrual Cup Review

IMG_7355.JPG

Diva Cup

Overall Rating: 4 Stars

About Diva Cup:

“The Diva story began in the heart of a young girl named Francine. Over time Francine’s entrepreneurial spirit and passion for better menstrual care led her to discover menstrual cups. Today, in partnership with her daughter Carinne, Francine is changing the way women view period care.

My vision for a healthy, more sustainable feminine hygiene product began when I was just a teenager. Each month I would go through the motions of “dealing” with my menstrual cycle. Yet, I quickly grew tired (and frustrated) with the unsanitary, uncomfortable and impersonal feel of disposable tampons and pads. As I grew older, and began researching alternative menstrual care products, I was excited to learn I was not alone in my passion.

The day I discovered menstrual cups, was the day my dream turned into reality.

For ten years, I pioneered the menstrual cup industry, selling and promoting these innovative products around the world. In 2001, the best part about my vision came to life as my daughter Carinne and I began experimenting with our own designs and ideas. After years of experience and research we designed The DivaCup, a reusable menstrual cup that encourages a more positive period experience. I wake up every day excited to share The DivaCup concept with young women, and those a little older, who are not only looking for a better product but also a new relationship with their menstrual cycle!”

“It goes where? I have to do what? Yes, you wear The DivaCup in “there”, in your vagina… but we promise, it is not as scary as it sounds. In fact, your body will thank you for giving it the period care it deserves.

The DivaCup is a reusable, bell-shaped menstrual cup that is worn internally and sits low in the vaginal canal, collecting rather than absorbing your menstrual flow. Menstrual cups have existed since the 1930s when women were searching for an alternative to the choices of the time. Yet, its breakthrough into the feminine hygiene industry is much more recent.

Many women feel uneasy about changing their menstrual care routine. Years of dealing with the sights and odors of disposable tampons and pads cause the familiar reaction: “ick!”. The DivaCup empowers women to connect with their bodies and menstrual cycles like never before. Perfect for all activities (on air, land or sea), its easy care and use make for a better period experience. Wear The DivaCup for up to 12 hours without leaks or worry.

The DivaCup Features:

  • 12 hour leak-free protection!
  • Made from the highest quality healthcare grade silicone to assure comfort and durability.
  • Does not contain any of the following: latex, plastic, PVC, acrylic, acrylate, BPA, phthalate, elastomer, polyethylene, and free of colors and dyes.
  • Reusable and eco-friendly – no waste, no chemicals.
  • Features extra grip ridges for easier removal.
  • Cleared for marketing by the US FDA and the Australian TGA and the only reusable menstrual cup allowed to be sold in Canada by Health Canada.
  • Diva International Inc. is the only ISO 13485:2003 certified menstrual cup manufacturer and head office in the world!

Discover the healthy, “non-ick” alternative to traditional feminine hygiene products. Join women worldwide by switching to The DivaCup today!”

My Thoughts:

Oh. My. Periods. My menstrual cycle is the only speakable health “ailment” that I struggle with controlling the pain of. Because of my debilitating menstrual cramps, I am always eager to find new products that make my time of the month a little less painstaking, inconvenient, healthy and more tolerable.

Diva Cup was of interest for me for several reasons:

-The fear of “toxic shock syndrome” which can be caused by leaving a tampon in for too long, allegedly.

-Making my monthly period less of an expense. The Diva Cup is reusable, so there’s no more endless boxes of tampons that I have to go through.

-The material that Diva Cup is made of appears and seems to be one of the safest that you can use: BPA free and free of many harsh materials that have been found to leach into the body and cause health issues (however big or small they are)

-The ease of use. I think the idea is brilliant–and there’s no waste like there is with pads and tampons.

So, here’s where it simply has to get really real! 🙂

My experience with the Diva Cup has been pretty good. The capacity of the cup itself is sufficient enough to allow me to leave it in for several hours on end even on my heaviest days. They offer instructions on how to insert the cup (like you read above, yes, you wear it inside your woman part!) and following those worked well for me.

This may be a bit graphic, but there’s truly no way around it if I’m being frank. I have had a few issues with the cup leaking while I’m wearing it. It doesn’t appear to be because it is overflowing. Rather, it seems to be a matter of the internal “seal” that it’s supposed to form not being intact. The instructions do suggest that you insert the cup halfway, then rotate it–I’m thinking this is supposed to insure that the seal is solid. However, sometimes I have a hard time mastering that and the result seems to be leakage. Not much leakage, but still.

That said, I will take responsibility for the fact that it may be operator error. They supply adequate instructions–I just haven’t mastered my “technique”, so to speak.

The other issue I’ve had is that when I take the cup out to empty it, its kind of a messy ordeal. At home, it’s perfectly fine because I have privacy to deal with it. However, in public restrooms, it’s kind of an ordeal. I am a heavy bleeder, so when I take it out, it’s just not always a clean and tidy ordeal! I end up having blood on my hands and use a lot of toilet paper to not have it be a complete disaster. Finding a way around that mess is another aspect of the Diva Cup use that I’ve yet to get down pat.

The capacity of the diva cup is enough, in my opinion, that I could probably always be able to avoid having to empty it in a public restroom, assuming you are home mornings and evenings. It’s just been a matter of getting used to how quickly it fills up. It’s proving to last a long time, unlike tampons. I just had a few public restroom experiences that were messy. In hindsight, they weren’t even necessary because the cup wasn’t full. It’s just hard to tell when it’s inserted when it’s full.

All of that said, I still see it as a better alternative to tampons, because of what it’s made of, because it saves money, and because it is reusable. I’d recommend it! It just will take a little bit of getting used to.

Have any of you tried the Diva Cup? I am eager to hear your thoughts, if you’ve had similar struggles and how you’ve remedied them. Please, don’t be afraid to be candid in sharing your thoughts and experiences!

Nature’s Fusions Essential Oils Review: Rosemary, Peppermint, Thyme, Ginger

Nature’s Fusions Essential Oils

This is a review of Nature’ Fusions essential oils.

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

About Nature’s Fusions:

The Highest Quality in the World, Guaranteed.

We have worked for years with the best international suppliers, chemists, and laboratories around the world to get the highest quality certified therapeutic grade essential oils in the world. All of our oils are certified to be 100% pure and free of pesticides or other chemical residues. They have undergone rigorous testing to insure they meet or exceed all international standards on Purity and Safety. All of our oils have been cross tested using mass spectrometry, and gas chromatography to ensure both extract purity and composition potency of each batch. Would you like to see the data charts from the tests?  Just ask! We understand that these graphs and charts may be difficult to read or understand and would be happy to discuss the scientific details with you if you’re so inclined.

Ultimately, unless you can read somewhat complicated data charts, are familiar with current medical research, and can determine the impact of hundreds of individual components in essential oils, knowing which oils are not only ‘pure’ but also good enough to be ‘therapeutic’ is a question of trust.

Here at Nature’s Fusions, we value your trust more than anything else – we have put in the time, effort and money to bring you the best essential oils in the world, just as you would expect a doctor would do with a prescribed medication – and this is shown by our 100% satisfaction guarantee and our commitment to honesty in communication. Essential oils are awesome for the uses in which they work. But there are plenty of times they don’t – and while there are plenty of articles that claim essential oils will cure every malady known to man, here we try to cut through the misinformation and pseudo-science that surrounds the essential oil field.  For that reason, we are an ‘open book’ – ask us anything and we’ll be happy to answer.

So give it a try. Try us out, and we guarantee that you will be impressed – not only with the quality and utility of our products, but with our prices, our honesty, and our dedication to you as a person.

If you are currently using an essential company that tries to hide information or won’t divulge their secrets and ‘proprietary’ items, then I wouldn’t trust them.  This is your health – what is there to hide?  Would you trust a doctor that wouldn’t tell you what was in the medicine he/she prescribed?”

I’ve reviewed a few of Nature’s Fusions’ oils before and had a fantastic experience with them. You can read that review here.

My Thoughts:

Essential oils are an major health booster in my everyday routine. I use them in a multitude of ways and I always get excited to try them differently as I learn more about them. I was eager to incorporate these four into my daily routine in these ways:

Rosemary: added to my shampoo to stimulate hair follicles– it acts as a catalyst for hair growth, added to my green drinks to alleviate headaches

Peppermint: in homemade toothpaste, for acne spot treatments, added to tea.

Thyme: taken orally (in water) for menstrual cramp relief

Ginger: taken orally (in water) for stomach discomfort, or after I’ve eaten some not-so-healthy food–as it rebalances my stomach’s pH.

The most useful essential oil in my house is definitely the peppermint. I use it every day (you can read my homemade recipe here) to brush my teeth, treat a sudden acne breakout and to sooth an irritated stomach and reduce inflammation in my body. Besides the benefits, the best part is that it leaves your breath smelling fresh and minty.

Using thyme for menstrual cramps seemed to work okay–but not completely alleviate my cramps. However, I have always had very intense menstrual cramps. Perhaps, I need to start taking the thyme a few days in advance before my time of the month comes to combat the inflammation and cramping.

I don’t have any issues with thinning hair on my head, but do like adding a drop of this essential oil to my night eye cream to help stimulate more brow growth. Along with tweezing less, it seems as though my brows have filled out a bit more. I also believe you can get the hair boosting benefits of this oil by ingesting it–which is why I sometimes add it to my blended, homemade green drinks.

I seldom have issues with a sour stomach, since I eat lots of plants every day–but it happens on occasion. To prevent and treat stomach and digestion issues, I like taking this ginger essential oil in water–and it works well. Also, it’s completely organic & natural (much better than the junk-filled stomach medication you will find at the drug store).

In regards to quality, Nature’s Fusions is amongst the very best. This brand also creates many different essential oil blends that are geared towards certain things like motion sickness or muscle aches. I look to them for many of my essential oil needs.
