My Thoughts:

I try to maintain a balance of putting a large amount of nutrient-rich, alkaline foods into my body along with indulging occasionally on my favorite foods. Brands that make that “splurging” and sweet-tooth-satisfying healthy, mindful and power packed don’t go unseen by me. I so much appreciate what Hail Merry is doing here. To sum it up, right off the bat, I can’t think of a sweet, healthy treat I’d rather reach for than these Hail Merry Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Macaroons. Words don’t do them justice. They are an EXPERIENCE. Despite the fact that they are a “treat”, they are pretty macro balanced. These macaroons have 10g of fat, 9g of carbs (6g of sugar) and 2 g of protein per 2 macaroons (1 serving). They are dense little bundles of pure goodness. They’re also rife with organic & raw ingredients. Organic & Raw are king in my world! Low in sugar is also something that I search for and am pretty mindful of. I don’t consciously count calories or sugar grams, but I know how my body feels with I overload it with sugar–so I stay tuned into that. I see these macaroons as the best option I’ve seen out there for a satisfying, alive (not packed with highly-processed, heated crud), healthy treats. I can grab a bag of these and feel really good about the ingredients. If I were making these at home to snack on, I would cut the sugar content in half and add some protein powder (Hey Hail Merry, next product?!) 🙂 For the dessert use, though, they are healthful, tasty perfection.

Natural Sins Dried Fruit & Veggie Snacks Review

Natural Sins

Overall Rating: 3 Stars

Sample Description from the Crispy Apple Thins:

“Crispy Thins is a delicious crispy fruit thin that is carefully sliced and baked to preserve the fruit’s original shape and flavor. Our thins are rich in fiber and taste. Fat-free and low in calories to make it the perfect snack. Natural Sins is the NEW Generation of HEALTHY Snacks!

  • The perfect anytime snack, healthy & delicious.
  • 100% natural, baked dried fruit!
  • NO Preservatives, Fat-free, sodium-free, gluten-free, GMO-free, Dye-free, low calorie and rich in fiber.
  • 100% Crispy fruit-thins! (Approximately 1 mm thick, not gummy, foamy, or sticky slices).
  • Vegan
  • Made from Apple and Cane Sugar.”

My Thoughts:

At first glance at these products, I thought that the convenience of them is nice and the variety of fruits and the veggie (beet) they offer is appealing. As with any food product, I strive for organic and raw as much as I can. Learning that these dried snacks are non-gmo is a big step in the right direction, but I’m looking for more than that. I do see air-dried fruit and veggie strips & chips to be a great, on the go option. That said, I also think that bringing a baggie of fresh fruits and/or veggies can be just as simple.

These Natural Sins snacks are delicious in regards to taste. Even the beet chips have the slightest zip of sweetness, making them delicious and satisfying in their own right.

I’d recommend them to someone looking for a healthier swap for the typically genetically modified potato chips. I’d love to see them made organically–I’d be more “on board” with them in that case.

Eat Well Embrace Life Hummus Review

Eat Well Embrace Life Hummus

Overall Rating: 3 Stars

About Eat Well Embrace Life:

“Eat Well Embrace Life Hummus was founded in 2011 with a simple mission: to create premium products that celebrate the idea that good taste and eating well go hand in hand.

The parent company, Tryst Gourmet, was founded in 2007.

Made from the finest ingredients and with the greatest attention to detail, Eat Well Embrace Life has Americanized the hummus category by creating hummus from Other Beans. What makes us different and better is our commitment to product innovation, resulting in new, exciting flavors with the Wow! taste and healthy attributes you’ve come to expect.

Thanks to the groundswell of support we get from foodies like you, we’re the nation’s fastest growing hummus company today.

Greater than 90% of our product line is non-GMO, including our beans, tahini and oil. We do not make the claim for non-GMO status because some of the spices used in our toppings have not yet been certified non-GMO. We expect our products to qualify for non-GMO status in the near term and following the formal non-GMO certification process.”

These are the flavors I tried:

Black Bean

Spicy Red Lentil Chipotle

Wasabi Edamame

Tuscan White Bean

Spicy Yellow Lentil

Zesty Sriracha Carrot

Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

Sample ingredient list from the Roasted Red Pepper Hummus:

Non-GMO Edamame, Canola and Extra Virgin Olive Oil Blend, Water, Sesame Tahini, Roasted Red Peppers, Salt, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Garlic, Toasted Sesame Seeds, Citric Acid, Onion, Spices, Potassium Sorbate To Maintain Freshness. Contains: Milk.”

My Thoughts:

All other details aside, this hummus selection was delectable. I loved trying each new flavor each deciphering the unique flavor profiles in each of them. There are many snack options out there, and I like how hummus is a healthy, convenient option amongst them. If I had to pick one, I’d say the Wasabi Edamame hummus was my favorite of the bunch. I am a sucker for that wasabi punch–I couldn’t gobble that one up quick enough. Instead of chips, I like to eat hummus with carrots. That way, I’m truly making it a healthy, nutrient packed snack/meal.

In regards to quality, I was hoping to see a bit more of an encouraging ingredient list. As you can read above, above 90% of the ingredients are non-gmo. While that sounds good, that’s the “best” part of the ingredients. None of them are organic. Such a bummer. I know of an organic hummus brand (that’s in my local store) that I can look to thus, this brand would not be my first choice if I’m looking for a healthy, great quality hummus.

Ingredients are tops to me. Regardless of how good something tastes, I won’t go back to it if I don’t believe in the ingredients. I look forward to when Eat Well Embrace Life starts using organic ingredients. At that point, I’d be on board with them.
