My Thoughts:

This quad of products by Sun & Moon are probably my favorite nutritional product that I’ve ever tried. Let me explain:

I concoct all kinds of potions in the kitchen in a regular basis; always aiming to harness the goodness of nature in easy to ingest, quick ways. Even before discovering Gabrielle and her brand, I had experimented with superfood powders (cacao, cayenne, ginger, cinnamon, maca, turmeric) by adding small amounts of each to a blender bottle, then drinking. I love this part of my routine as a way to quickly get the benefits of all these powerful, antioxidant & nutrient rich powders.

That said, I felt so immediately connected with this brand when I read the ingredients. Not only does Gabrielle use some of my favorites, but she adds other unique ingredients like lucuma, baobab and mesquite. I get so amped up to try new superfoods. It’s like christmas in the kitchen with these Sun & Moon powders.

The amazing thing about these blends is that there’s no added flavoring, nothing artificial at all (only organic ingredients), yet the flavors are surreal. The taste of each blend is unique, incredibly delicious, earthy and unexpectedly good. If I had to choose one, my favorite would be Resonance; the flavor combination is beautifully done, with so much yumminess from the cacao and vanilla bean. I enjoy the flavors so much that I simply mix them (using a blender bottle) with water. However, you can add these mixes by the spoonful to a smoothie as well. I’m sure they would work in baking, however, I advocate keeping these superfoods raw so that you retain all of the benefits they offer.

I can’t say enough good things about Sun & Moon Organics. The quality is top notch, ingredients are as clean as can be, and it’s a whole lot more convenient than shopping for all of these spices and foods individually. I HIGHLY recommend this brand to take your health to the next level. (tastefully!)

We even enlist wind and solar power energy in the making of products, use recyclable packaging, vegetable-based inks in printing, FSC certified post-consumer recycled paper and our Beyond Organic line is created with Biodynamic® farming practices. We think Mother Nature would be proud!

If you’ve been keeping track you will notice that Éminence holds certifications for several national and international organic certifying bodies. My Thoughts:

Eminence is a big breath of fresh air. It’s actually really enjoyable to read the mission of a brand that clearly values using organic ingredients and what goes into their skin care products. Besides that, these products have been a real joy to use.

I LOVE the pear & poppy seed microderm polisher. It smells divine (I could just sit and smell it like I would a candle) and the consistency of the scrub is perfect. It acts as the perfect clarifier for the post-workout grime that accumulates on my face (I almost always am outside–and this time of year its warm!).

I am a huge fan of incorporating greens into your diet, thus I really enjoyed applying the Eight Greens Youth Serum to my face. It applied a little bit differently than the serums I’m used to. It seems that the content is more watery substances, rather than oily (not a bad thing, just different). It left a replenished and fresh feeling on my face. Sometimes my skin seems to need mainly moisture, but other days it just appears to need a nutrient boost. This serum is great for those lighter days.

Wearing an SPF moisturizer is not something I’m accustomed to doing, mainly because many of them contain chemical sunscreens. I like that this one uses a physical sunscreen, zinc oxide–which is not readily absorbed by your skin. It sits atop skin and forms a barrier against the sun. I’ve applied it before going off to run in the sun and had no red, sun kissed cheeks. I’d say it worked well.

I know that probiotics are good for my stomach, so I love the idea of putting a probiotic moisturizer on my face. This one is a light moisturizer, is cooling on my skin and I found it perfect as a day cream.

Overall, this is a great selection of products, stellar ingredients and I can’t wait to try more of their unique skin care items!

Aubrey Organics Skin & Hair Care Product Review

These are 5 Aubrey Organics products

that were new for me to try. I am excited to share each one of them with you! They are truly outstanding products.

After Sun Face & Body Moisturizer

Aubrey Organics’ Description:

Newly reformulated with powerful anti-aging ingredients, this rich, all-over lotion soothes thirsty, sun-exposed skin on contact. CoQ10 supports your skin’s collagen, organic pomegranate protects with antioxidant action, and baobab oil nourishes and rehydrates with essential fatty acids and plant sterols. (Note: After Sun is not a sunscreen.)

My Description and Thoughts:

Whether I’m out running, or occasionally on the beach, I am frequently exposed to the sun. I had never before used a lotion that was formulated specifically for after a day in the sun–what a fabulous idea. This moisturizer smells fruity and tropical, has a rich consistency (a little goes a long way), and counteracts the effects of the sun (dryness, irritation, mild sun burn). It does an excellent job of replenishing the moisture that is lost due to sun exposure. This product will be a staple in my cabinet because of it’s effectiveness and uniqueness.

Natural Lips Sheer Tint- Sheer Pink

Aubrey Organics’ Description:

Sheer lip tint adds gloss and soft, translucent color to your lips and smoothes and conditions with organic shea butter and other rich emollients. Try all eight natural shades for different looks and a fabulous smile.

My Description and Thoughts:

I go most days without make-up, but when I do wear it, I do my best to use mainly natural options. I have been using Aubrey’s Silken Earth Translucent Base for a while now and am so pleased. Thus, I was eager to try their lip products. This sheer tint is a great addition to the base. It provides such a pretty color to my lips. It’s not as thick and globby as lipstick can be, yet the color is still rich enough to complement your lips. It isn’t as dramatic as lip-stick, which I like. Also, this color, Sheer Pink, was a nice match for me. I’m not a fan of browns on my lips, nor deep reds–this one has a nice rich pink/magenta hue to it.

Green Tea & Green Clay Rejuvenating Mask

Aubrey Organics’ Description:

Invigorating antioxidant mask helps draw out impurities with green clay and natural fruit acids to leave dull, dehydrated skin renewed and refreshed.

My Description and Thoughts:

As an avid user of Aubrey’s Green Tea Facial Cleansing Lotion, I jumped at the chance to try the mask. These green tea products that Aubrey makes have changed my skin and have let it be its most vibrant, glowing self. This is no exaggeration. I used to have blemished, acne-prone skin and tried so many different products with no success. I have used this mask so far after workouts or at the end of the day when my skin is its oiliest/dirtiest. It does a fantastic job of clarifying your skin without stripping it of the moisture, like some masks tend to do. It restores your skin to its natural moisture balance and makes it feel clear, soft, clean, and refreshed.

E PLus High C Roll-on Deodorant

Aubrey Organics’ Description:

For total protection that lasts, this herbal roll-on formula reduces odor and keeps you feeling clean all day. With natural vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant, organic aloe and other skin soothers.

My Description and Thoughts:

Aubrey deodorants are my favorite natural deodorants thus far in my search. They do the job. This is coming from a girl who does lots of running, working out, sweating, and perspiring. This particular deodorant has a light flowery scent and would satisfy a wide range to scent preferences.

One thing I hear often about natural deodorants is that they lack effectiveness and longevity. I’ve found it is possible to wear a safe AND effective deodorant, you just need to pick the right one.

I am currently using another Aubrey deodorant called “Calendula Blossom Natural Deodorant Spray,” which is a staple for me. This E Plus High Roll-on Deodorant will be an excellent addition. Some prefer spray-on deodorants, some prefer roll-on deodorants. To each his own! You have both choices 🙂

Creme de la Shave- Pomegranate

Aubrey Organics’ Description:

Made with rich emollients and fruit extracts, this moisturizing shave cream pampers and protects your skin for a luxurious, ultra-smooth shave and legs so soft, you may not need a lotion after shaving. You’ll love its silky feel and exotic tropical scent.

My Description and Thoughts:

In making the switch to organic beauty products, I had a hard time finding a shave cream to replace what I was currently using. This was a great product to come across. The pomegranate scent is so refreshing and lovely and will leave such a pleasant scent on your skin. The consistency of the cream is just right–not too runny, not too cake-y. This cream provides great coverage (a little goes a long way), and also replenishes the moisture in your skin that shaving takes out. Using a shave cream packed full of natural and nourishing components will provide all the goodness to your skin without the toxic chemicals found in your typical drug store shaving cream.

Sunscreen – Something To Note, Laird Hamilton

I’ll preface this post by saying that I am hoping to provide some good information here, and maybe help open a few minds–not to rant or force my thoughts on anyone. I just believe it is worth mentioning! 🙂

During a conversation with my mother today on the phone, she planted a seed of an idea in my mind that I instantly realized was very important and worth addressing and discussing in my blog: Sunscreen.

Being a Florida native, participating in outdoor activities where sun exposure is frequent, the topic/necessity of sunscreen is mentioned often. My ideas and beliefs pertaining to sunscreen have changed quite a bit since becoming more aware of the ingredients in my beauty products.

Just like any other beauty product you can pick up at the drug store, sunscreen contains a laundry list of harmful chemicals that you should not ignore. Many people immediately are in disbelief when they hear that.

“What do you mean? Sunscreen PROTECTS my skin!” Well, unfortunately, that’s not completely true.

If you care about the toxins that enter your body via the largest system in your body: the integumentary system (which includes your skin) then this is important.

It is good to remember that if you would not eat it, you might want to consider why you are putting it onto your skin (substances are absorbed through skin and go DIRECTLY into your bloodstream, unlike food that gets the benefit of kidneys and a liver to filter out impurities).

To put it simply, just because you can buy it at the store, does not mean it is good for you. One way to be more aware of what you apply to your body is to read the ingredients! Don’t blindly use products. If you pick up a bottle of sunscreen, it is likely that you do not know what most of those ingredients are, and you probably can’t pronounce them either–that’s because they are not made to go into your body.

If you need to hear this from a more credible source,

take Laird Hamilton for example. Laird is a professional surfer, health and fitness genius, son of surf legend Bill Hamilton, husband of health and fitness guru Gabrielle Reece, and has been deemed the “best athlete in the world” by many renowned athletes.

He is also lives in Kauai, Hawaii part of the year, and Malibu, California the rest. I believe it is safe two say two things about him: His knowledge is respected and virtually always right on the money, and he knows a thing or two about being in the sun.

Here is a direct Laird Hamilton quote:

“I hate sunscreen, it has a lot of toxins in it….Have you ever really looked at the labels on processed foods & products? The list of ingredients is surreal. Here’s one: perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). Sounds like something you’d find in battery acid, not in food and products that go into and onto your body.”

He goes on to discuss that a large portion of skin damage due to sun is the result of skin temperature getting too high. He suggests that submerging yourself constantly in water to keep your skin cool does a lot to minimize damages of extensive sun exposure. A good rule of thumb to always keep in mind in regards to your health is moderation; it’s never a great idea to over-do it, especially when talking about being in the sun.

In all of this, I am not suggesting that precautions should not be taken to avoid over exposure, rather, which precautions?

We are so quick to reach for the sunscreen when we should be reaching for a t-shirt, hat, shorts, sunglasses, or umbrella. Lots of sun protection & no toxins.

In the advancing market of natural and organic substitutes for everyday items containing harsh and harmful substances, companies like Aubrey Organics are changing sunscreen. They are creating sunscreens with lots of organic ingredients and virtually no toxins.

Awesome right? So, if you must, you can use sunscreen in moderation and feel more assured that you aren’t harming yourself as you are covering up with sunblock.

Wouldn’t you think twice about sunscreen after hearing that? I sure did.

These words from Laird came from a sit down interview titled “As It Lays” (you can watch it on youtube.com) and also from his book: “Force of Nature: Mind, Body, Soul, and, Of Course, Surfing.”
