The Eczema Company: Manuka Honey Eczema Cream Review

The Eczema Company: Manuka Honey Eczema Cream by Yoro Naturals

About:

creamy balm thick in texture and rich in emollients, the Manuka Honey Skin Cream is our top seller because it moisturizes even the dryest of skin. Organic New Zealand Manuka honey is combined with organic tree nut-free oils and beeswax to create this gentle, nourishing Manuka honey eczema product that will not burn or sting the skin. Our “Manuka cream” is a surprisingly soft and creamy oil based balm, rather than a true water based eczema cream that’s excellent for soothing and calming irritated skin.

What is Manuka honey and Manuka Oil?

Manuka honey is native to New Zealand and is created when bees pollinate the Manuka bush, a relative of the tea tree. Manuka oil is extracted from the leaves of the Manuka bush. Manuka oil is actually 10 times more potent than tea tree oil. Manuka and tea tree oil are ancient remedies used worldwide for a variety of ailments. Unlike the very medicinal odor of tea tree oil, Manuka oil and honey have a lovely delicately sweet scent. What else makes Manuka honey so incredible? It contains 1,000 times more methylglyoxal than other forms of honey. Methylglyoxal is what gives honey it’s anti-bacterial properties and which makes honey so beneficial.

The level of methylglyoxal in manuka honey is 1,000 times greater than most regular honeys

My Experience:

My facial complexion was been a focus of my self-care since I was a teenager. I battled cystic acne for many years. While that’s a thing of my past and I rarely get breakouts, I do have an uneven complexion due to sunspots and redness (likely related to what I’m eating).

Of course, what I put on my skin also effects how it looks. I use exclusively clean skincare (almost always 100% organic, with the exception of the makeup I wear). Even though my skincare routine is clean and my diet is mostly healthy + nourishing, I’m human and imperfect. There are days I don’t drink enough water, splurge on food here and there and/or drink several rum + club sodas.

While I do my best to not attach any guilt nor shame to those things, I do realize that my skin is a reflection of what’s going on inside my body. I’m always open to experiment with skincare to help reduce my facial puffiness, redness and uneven skin tone.

I was excited to collab again (you can read my thoughts on some of their other products here) with the Eczema Company to try this product and compile my experience in a blog post.

I’ve always been aware and a fan of Manuka honey and the myriad benefits if can provide for many aspects of overall wellness. It’s been a long time since I’ve used it on my skin, and I don’t believe I’ve ever used a Manuka honey based skincare product of this quality. I like that it contains Olive oil (I like to rotate my facial oils and most of them contain a nut-based oil).

I’ve been applying this Manuka Honey Eczema cream to my face (with a focus on my red cheek area) at night on a fresh face after cleansing) for about a week now. I don’t think that the redness on my face is eczema, but I do think it can be helped by a cream that targets inflammation.

So far, I can definitely tell a difference in my skin redness. Very encouraging!

Diet + boozing impacts my skin quite a bit, so i never expect a face product to be a cure all. but when it makes a noticeable difference, it’s so rad. HONEY FTW 🍯

The Eczema Company Sunscreen Review

The Eczema Company

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

About The Eczema Company:

“The Eczema Company was created by our family to help others dealing with the daily challenges of managing eczema. We know all about the intense itching, the sleepless nights (for the whole family!) and the desperation to find something to make the discomfort even the tiniest bit better. Our son developed a baby rash and was diagnosed with eczema at three months old. His skin continued to worsen and at age three his body was 90% covered in what looked like severe burns. Around that time we discovered he has many food allergies and sensitivities, some lead to eczema flare-ups and some lead to immediate itching. Now that we’ve found his triggers, our son’s skin is much better.

You can follow our son, Tristan’s story on our blog, It’s an Itchy Little World.

We have tried countless eczema creams, eczema clothing, etc. and have made our favorites available to you in this eczema store. As you know, what works for one person’s eczema may not work for another. We realized this after seeing our closet full of partially used eczema creams that were recommended for Tristan, but just didn’t help his itchy skin. While all eczema is different, we want to provide you with products try that we believe in because they work. We hope they bring you and your family some much-deserved relief.

Our hope is that through this website and our blog we can help bring relief to your itchy little world.”

My Thoughts:

Though I don’t suffer from eczema on my body, I am always eager to try a new, organically based sunscreen. This sunscreen is one of only a few that I would recommend using. The vast majority of sunscreens that you’ll find at your local drug store are jam packed with questionable ingredients that are doing your skin more harm than good.

Within this ingredient list, you’ll notice a bunch of organic ingredients, preceded by Zinc Oxide. My knowledge about zinc oxide is this: smaller zinc particles (nano-sized) are more able to penetrate skin than non-nano particles. This means that non-nano zinc particles are able to create a barrier on your skin without being readily absorbed. So, your skin will absorb only the goodness in this sunscreen–all of the organic oils and substances. Non-nano sized is what you want to look for in a sunscreen, when shopping around. Zinc oxide is one of many “drug” ingredients found in sunscreens, and is considered the safest. To be the most mindful of protecting yourself, aim to use sunscreen when needed, but rely on hats, shirts and cover-ups to protect your skin for more extended, intense portions of time in the sun.

Thru June 30th, The Eczema Company is offering you 15% off of your first purchase, using the code “RUNON2014.” So go get your hands on this awesome sunscreen as summer approaches!
