EZC Pak Immune Support Supplement Review

This is a review of the EZC Pak immune support supplement.

EZC Pak

Overall Rating: 2 Stars

About EZC Pak:

“The EZC Pak is a 5-day tapered immune support pack designed by Sarath Malepati, MD, a California physician and Medical Director of the PPC Group, a health product design team.

Over the past decade, Dr. Malepati has come to manage an increasingly larger number of patients requiring hospitalization from ‘superbug’ infections such as MRSA and Clostridium difficile (C. diff) colitis. In the case of C. diff colitis, C. diff is a normal bacteria in the gut that can overgrow and cause serious, aggressive colon infections when the normal gut flora environment is compromised. This generally occurs during antibiotic exposure for unrelated infections. C. diff colitis is what is termed an iatrogenic disease—illness caused by medical examination or treatment. There are now 29,000 deaths a year in the US from C. diff infections, a disease that’s incidence can be significantly reduced by improved hand hygiene measures and more conservative antibiotic use.”

My Thoughts:

Antibiotics, like many pharmaceutical “fixes” for ailments, are far too often looked to in order to treat the body. Prevention should be the first focus and then natural, holistic treatments should be used as needed. By the way, isn’t that a pretty alarming bit of info that EZC pack provides (shown above)?

Before trying, I liked that it seemed the ECZ Pak is a little bit of prevention and a little bit of natural treatment in one. It contains vitamin C, zinc and organic echinacea as the ingredients to help boost immune function.

I’ve gotten away from vitamin and mineral powders that are not whole-food based, because I believe them to be harder for the body to recognize and actually utilize. Because I’m mindful of that, I wonder just how much of these vitamin C & zinc doses by body is able to assimilate and use to boost immune capacity. I’d much rather see whole-food based supplements that have naturally occurring levels of vitamins and minerals, rather than isolated powders.

Here’s one of the biggest hold-ups I have here. This product is made by a pharmaceutical company. That brings on flashing lights and red flags for me. I am all about natural healing, so it puzzles me that this would be made by a drug company. It makes me doubt the absorbability, purity & quality of the vitamins & minerals used.

As far as usage, I found that I struggled with some stomach discomfort after taking these supplements. I am familiar enough with how my body reacts to food that I eventually figured out that the discomfort was caused by this supplement. That was a bummer! I was hoping to feel healthier. I do things every day to help my body facilitate detox, but haven’t experienced a pain like that from a natural healing method.

Upon first label reading, I really liked seeing the organic echinacea in the product. Also, it doesn’t appear to contain any outlandish, crazy ingredients that I don’t recognize. Thus, I would say that this supplement is superior to other treatment methods that are artificial and drug-based.

All-in-all, I would much rather take an organic echinacea supplement along with my daily whole-food based multivitamin to help prepare my body to tell with whatever may ail me. I’m always interested in the most natural way to do that, and I try to stay far away from the pharmaceutical companies.

My Description & Thoughts about the different witch hazel scents:

I’m always looking for new ways to change up my skin routine for the better. I love trying new skin care products. I had heard of witch hazel before but was unaware of how to use it with my daily regimen Luckily, Thayer’s contacted me about giving their products a try. I love that a lot of the ingredients are organic and all of them are plant-derived and natural. I’ve been genuinely excited about all of the uses I’ve come up with so far–it makes witch hazel a useful, versatile product, as it replaces several bathroom products.

1. Mid-Day Facial Spray

Sometimes after a workout, half way through the day, my skin needs a refresh. I’ve found that what works perfectly for this is a mixture (1 part filtered water and 2 parts Thayer’s Witch Hazel) sprayed onto my skin with a small spray bottle. I dab the excess witch hazel off of my skin with a clean towel. Doing this helps my skin feel fresh without stripping away all of my skin’s moisture. My favorite for this is the lemon witch hazel.

2. Make-Up Brush Cleaner

It makes sense to clean your makeup brushes with a natural, gentle cleaner if you are already making an effort to use natural skin products.  That said, Thayers Witch Hazel makes the perfect brush cleaner. I simply fill a small bowl with witch hazel and place the end of the brushes into the liquid.  I let them sit there for a few minutes, swish them around and then rinse them. Let them air dry before using them again. Pick the witch hazel scent that you like best, as your brushes will not have remnants of that fresh scent. I like using the cucumber for this purpose.

3. Quick “Shower”

Because I am breaking a sweat at least once a day during my workout, I often find the need to clean up but don’t want to take several showers a day. A great solution that has worked well for me is dabbing Thayer’s Witch Hazel on a wet wash cloth. Wipe down at the necessary spots and you’re good to know! It will help eliminate body and odor and will leave a fresh scent behind. My favorite for this is using the peach witch hazel!

About the MSM Ingredient:

“·Obviously, one of its best and most well-known uses involves pain management. Research has shown MSM to be effective against joint and muscle pain, stiffness, and soreness – helping conditions such as bursitis, tendonitis and gout. Since sulfur is critical for the health and strength of joint tissues (e.g. cartilage), this component of MSM is of primary interest in conditions and stresses effecting those areas.Research has also shown MSM to be useful with various forms of arthritis – not only for pain management but as an anti-inflammatory agent as well, helping to reduce arthritic swelling.

· Many users of both internal and external MSM have reported softer, smoother, and more “elastic” skin resulting from its use.

My Description & Thoughts on the Magnesium Topical Products:

I was REALLY excited about these products because they were such a new concept to me: getting minerals into the body purposefully through the skin instead of ingesting it in pill form. I liked the idea and was excited to try it in my daily skin routine.

The way I decided to use it was applying it to my legs, arms, and stomach before a run. After application, the oil, gel and lotion all leave skin a bit tingly with a slightly itchy sensation. I didn’t enjoy that after showering so that’s what I decided to apply it before getting sweaty. I let my skin absorb the magnesium (gel or oil) first, then I apply my homemade “Icy Hot” mixture. Since the magnesium gel & oil is not very moisturizing to skin like you might think, following with a lotion or real oil (as the magnesium oil is not truly oil) helps skin to stay moist & supple.

In regards to effectiveness, it hard to tell how and in what way this magnesium absorption has effected my body. It reminds me of taking a multivitamin: it doesn’t give you a sudden jolt of vitality, but it helps you feel your best. I can say this about the magnesium oil:

-On days when I neglect to apply it before running, I have a more noticeable achiness in my knees–making me think that the magnesium really helps my post workout achiness.

-I have also had better sleep since using it–I sleep more soundly throughout the night without waking up hungry (which I have struggled with in the past).

I found that I like the oil the most. It happens to be the most dense with magnesium out of the three products. I like being able to apply it beneath my lotion or moisturizer. If you like combining the two and applying it at once, then I’d recommend the lotion. I did really like the Melatonin infused lotion. I applied it before bed and felt a noticeable grogginess that helped me fall asleep with more ease.

The ingredients in the lotion aren’t all the best–though some of them are organic. I’d give the oil and gel my highest rating, though, because they are simple and pure.

The gel is less fluid than the oil and makes it a little easier to apply by hand. I would recommend this to athletes and those than go for ease of application. The oil is merely like water in regards to texture and it best applied with the spray feature that comes with the bottle. Regardless of which consistency you prefer, you get the same great benefits of magnesium in using it on skin.

If you are looking for something different in your supplement routine, I’d recommend that you give one of these magnesium products a try. I see them being especially helpful to athletes and those who struggle with aches and pains.

nascent-iodine-supplement-1

Nascent Iodine

LL Magnetic Clay’s Description:

“Traditionally, the importance of iodine to the biological function of the body was focused on iodine’s role in the nourishment of the thyroid gland, particularly for the production of T3 and T4 hormones and the regulation of metabolism. However, as the understanding of this nutrient has progressed, we come to understand that the role of iodine in the body far surpasses what most thought, and is not only necessary for overall health, but a crucial component of the detoxification process.

What is Nascent Iodine?

Nascent Iodine is a consumable iodine in its atomic form rather than its molecular form. It is an iodine atom that has an incomplete number of electrons. It is paramagnetic. What does that mean? Well, it means that the iodine atoms can hold an electromagnetic charge. While this all might sound a little like a flashback to chemistry class, the most important thing to understand is that Nascent Iodine has a huge energy release when consumed. This “charged” state is held by the atom until diluted in water and consumed, whereby it gradually loses energy over a 2-3 hour time span. During this time, Nascent Iodine is recognized by the body as the same iodine that is produced by the thyroid and is absorbed effortlessly by the body.

Where is Iodine Used in the Body?

All the cells in your body contain and make use of iodine. It is concentrated in the glandular system of your body, with your thyroid containing the highest amount compared to any other organ. Significant amounts are also stockpiled in numerous other areas of the body including the salivary glands, cerebrospinal fluid and the brain, gastric mucosa, choroid plexus, breasts, and ovaries.

How soon will I feel the effects of Nascent Iodine?

Some of our clients have noticed additional energy on the first day after taking Nascent Iodine. If you already suffer from an iodine deficiency, you are most likely to notice the effect sooner.

Ingredients

Nascent Iodine in a base of Demeter certified Biodynamic grape alcohol. (2% Iodine by weight / 400mcg of nascent iodine per drop).”

My Description & Thoughts:

I have been drinking Kelp in powder form for several months now because of its iodine content. This product provides me with another option to ingest enough iodine. Hypothyroidism is a condition that runs in my family and I am vehemently trying to “break that mold” within my own body, making this product even more significant than most to me. Here is what I have come to know, in my own words, about iodine:

-Sufficient iodine is needed for optimum thyroid function. All of our endocrine system needs iodine, but the thyroid needs the most.

-Our bodies need very little iodine per day, but it needs it, since our bodies do not make it.

-Hypo and Hyperthyroidism can be a result of inadequate or improper (too much) intake of iodine.

I read with this Nascent Iodine that those with very low iodine levels might feel a boost from taking this iodine right away. I think my iodine levels have been adequate, thus I did not feel a drastic effect after taking it. I do use it daily, interchangeably with the kelp and have noticed a difference in my overall energy level. I used to wake up every morning having a very hard time waking up and feeling energetic. I now wake up every morning and require very little to get going. I take a few drops of iodine in my mouth and gulp it down with a glass of water and I’m set.

I’ve been very happy with this product, overall and would recommend it to:

-those who have a hard time waking up

-those with low energy levels

-those who believe to have or have been diagnosed with a thyroid problem

Needless to say, I am not a doctor, however I found this product to be helpful for my overall energy level and ability to get up and go in the mornings.

Prescript-Assist Probiotic

LL Magnetic Clay’s Description:

“What is Prescript Assist?

Prescript-Assist® (P-A) is a next-generation combination of 29 probiotic microflora “Soil-Based-Organisms (SBOs)” uniquely combined with a humic/fulvic acid prebiotic that enhances SBO proliferation. Prescript-Assist’s® microflora are Class-1 micro ecological units that are typical of those progressively found resident along the healthy human GI Tract. And, with more than 5 years in clinical development and testing*, Prescript-Assist remains one of the most effective probiotic supplements for restoring levels of gastrointestinal micro-flora compromised from antibiotics, medication, poor diet, stress, and digestive abnormalities.

*Prescript-Assist Probiotic was the subject of a randomized, placebo controlled, double-blind clinical study (Clinical Therapeutics 2005; Vol 27, No. 6, Pgs.755-761.)

Clinical Applications

– Maintains Healthy GI-Tract MicroFloral Ecologies
– Promotes Normal Bowel Function
– Supports Gut Immune-System
– Assists in Stabilizing the Gut Mucosal Barrier
– Supports Normal Absorption and Assimilation of Nutrients in the Gut

Details

A primary objective of probiotic therapy is to provide therapeutic resistance against pathogen colonization in the GI tract. Prescript-Assist® is unique in this regard as its constituent microflora are representative of those found resident along the healthy human GI tract (vs. most common probiotic products). Its beneficial/healthy microflora, coupled with a proprietary prebiotic, provide for robust maintenance/enhancement of gut microflora and resistance to pathogenesis. Prescript-Assist’s® microflora arguably contribute to better health in their in-vitro and in-vivo demonstrated abilities to produce vital nutritional components (antioxidants, enzymes, amino acids, vitamins, etc). Quite unlike most probiotics that incorporate easily degradable lactic acid based microorganisms, the utilization of SBO’s in Prescript-Assist® provides for a pH resistant (able to survive trip through the stomach) and shelf stable (does not need refrigeration) product.

Suggested Use

Take 2 per capsules of Prescript-Assist per day for the first 30 days, followed by 1 to 2 capsules per day thereafter, or as recommended by your healthcare professional. A minimum full 30 day cycle of 2 caps per day should be used to reconstitute beneficial gut flora following any antibiotic regimen.

Ingredients

Each 600mg capsule of Prescript-Assist® contains a proprietary blend of Leonardite, and the following microorganisms: Arthrobacter agilis, Arthrobacter citreus, Arthrobacter globiformis, Arthrobacter luteus, Arthrobacter simplex, Acinetobacter calcoaceticus, Azotobacter chroococcum, Azotobacter paspali, Azospirillum brasiliense, Azospirillum lipoferum, Bacillus brevis, Bacillus marcerans, Bacillus pumilus, Bacillus polymyxa, Bacillus subtilis, Bacteroides lipolyticum, Bacteriodes succinogenes, Brevibacterium lipolyticum, Brevibacterium stationis, Kurthia zopfii, Myrothecium verrucaria, Pseudomonas calcis, Pseudomonas dentrificans, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Pseudomonas glathei, Phanerochaete chrysosporium, Streptomyces fradiae, Streptomyces cellulosae, Streptomyces griseoflavus.

Why is Prescript-Assist a better choice?

  • No need for refrigeration.
  • Backed by Sound Science: Supported by peer-reviewed, published clinical studies.
  • Inherent Viability: A matrix of superior, highly-resilient microflora whose organic, seed-like structures survive the early GI tract to thrive in the intestines.
  • Contains Bacillus subtilis:  A proven probiotic species found in traditional foods.12
  • 29 Symbiotic Strains: A balanced formulation specially selected to mimic the natural flora found in traditional and Paleolithic diets.
  • Proven Shelf Stable:  With variations of less than 5% over 2 years from date of manufacture when stored at 98°F / 37°C .
  • Supported By Prebiotics.
  • Gluten-Free, Dairy Free, and Vegan.”

My Description & Thoughts:

Though I only had about a two day’s worth of this product to sample, I believe it to be an above average probiotic supplement. If your diet does not already consist of several probiotic rich fermented foods, like kombucha, sauerkraut, or kefir–then this product is great way to get an adequate amount of probiotics so that your digestive system’s performance can be optimized.

Taking care of your digestive system is important because when it is damaged or disrupted, then the foods you eat will not be as readily absorbed as they could be if your digestive system was in tip top shape. This makes the organic food you eat less effective at keeping you healthy. It’s like putting great food into a blender that will only operate on a low speed. Our digestive systems can process a lot of goodness and assimilate the nutrients when it is working well. Taking a probiotic supplement will help it work it’s best.

In taking this supplement for two days, I didn’t notice an immediate difference–as expected. Taking this supplement for several weeks until evaluating it is the best way to give your digestive system time to heal and thrive.

Because I believe this probiotic supplement to be of great quality, I’d recommend it to anyone searching for a probiotic that they can feel good about. Taking care of your digestive system is something that will make a big difference in your overall health.

Just the Goods Skin Care

Overall Rating: 4 Stars/5 Stars (4.5 Stars)

About Just The Goods:

“Just the Goods seeks to offer affordable vegan products to help them become more widely available, therefore facilitating healthier living as part of increased consciousness about kind living, environment protection, and consumerism in general.

Just the Goods does not test any of its products on animals, nor does it commission such testing, because I believe it both unnecessary and unproven to make cosmetics safer for human consumers. Instead of testing Just the Goods on animals, I test all products on myself, and I am joined in this process by many great friends eager to try out my recipes. I am very concerned with how my products rank at http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com, so the spectrum of ingredients I use have known safety records. The Compact for Safe Cosmetics has acknowledged my choices by granting Just the Goods Champion Status. Beyond that, be assured that I would never include in a product something I wouldn’t consider putting on my own body, or giving to people I care about =-).”

Vegan Face Wash for Acne Prone Skin

Just the Good’s Description:

“Just the Goods’ face wash for acne prone skin begins with a gentle organic castille soap base plus kaolin clay to help absorb impurities. Tea tree, eucalyptus, and lavender essential oils provide a deep, antibacterial clean.

This product is available with our without exfoliating jojoba beads.

This product is handcrafted without the use of artificial preservatives. Please store in a cool, dark place for maximum longevity.

Ingredients:

Distilled water, saponified organic sunflower oil + organic coconut oil, vegetable glycerine, salt, citric acid, kaolin clay, tea tree oil, eucalyptus and lavender essential oil,  jojoba beads (where applicable)
Note:

Not recommended for highly sensitive skin.”

My Description & Thoughts:

This cleanser worked great on my acne prone skin. You can feel this wash thoroughly cleansing and purifying skin. The consistency is a bit watery and suds up as you lather it into the skin. The use of the tea tree, eucalyptus and lavender have a calming and clarifying affect on skin. The only improvement would be if these essential oils were organic–along with the other organic ingredients.

Overall, I am very impressed with this face wash. It’s not easy to come across a product with good ingredients that targets blemishes without drying out skin.

I would recommend this face wash to anyone, regardless of gender, who struggles with acne. It will help clear your skin and will act as a catalyst in helping blemishes go away.

facial-moisturizer-acne-prone-smaller-400x380

Vegan Facial Moisturizer for Acne Prone Skin

Just the Good’s Description:

“A quick look at the ingredients in conventional moisturizing lotion can be disconcerting. Petroleum is problematic enough without a whole bunch of other chemicals such as parabens and carbomers, not to mention artificial fragrances and colours, added to the mix. Yet, those elements constitute the basis of most widely available products and we simply can’t understand why.

It seems the sky is the limit when it comes to selecting oils for use in cosmetics, so our goal when creating a moisturizing lotion was to balance healthier choices and affordability. This is what we came up with:

Ingredient highlights:

Avocado oil is rich in vitamins A, D and E, as well as potassium, proteins, beta-carotene and numerous essential unsaturated fatty acids. It also contains a high quantity of sterolins, which is reported to help reduce age spots, help heal sun damage and scars. Avocado oil is furthermore said to increase the amount of collagen in the skin, which facilitates regeneration, particularly in the case of skin that is dehydrated or otherwise affected by difficult climates (i.e. Winnipeg’s dry winters). Some claim that avocado oil can even help to relieve the dryness and itching of psoriasis and eczema.

Apricot kernel oil has a high content of vitamins A, C, and E, as well as fatty acids such as oleic and linoleic acid. It is considered gentle enough to be used in products for babies, and is thus also suitable for mature and sensitive skin. It is well absorbed without leaving a greasy feeling, and can be helpful in calming the discomfort associated with conditions such as eczema and dermatitis.

Aloe vera gel is a powerful moisturizer that simultaneously helps to remove dead skin. It also stimulates the synthesis of collagen and elastin and is known to have a healing effect on burns and other wounds, all of which translates into assisting regeneration.

Tea tree oil helps fight bacteria and keep pores clear.

Distilled water gives this lotion a smooth, fluid texture while ensuring a non-greasy finish, vegetable based emulsifying wax holds everything together, and vegetable glycerine provides staying power.

Complete Ingredient List:

distilled water, persea gratissima (avocado) oil, prunus armeniaca (apricot) kernel oil, exthxylated sorbitan ester (vegetable based emulsifying wax), aloe barbadensis (aloe) leaf gel, vegetable glycerine, melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) oil, tocopherol (vitamin e).”

My Description & Thoughts:

I followed up the wash with this moisturizer and found that it restores the moisture balance on skin nicely. Some might think acne sufferers should shy away from moisturizer, however, this is not founded. I find that the opposite is true–skin needs to have an adequate amount of moisture to heal itself. The only fragrance noticeable is from the essential oils, thus, it smells fresh and herbaceous.

Anyone who tries the wash should get a bottle of this as well, as they work well together to tackle problem areas on skin.

acnespottreatmentsmaller-400x380

Vegan Acne Spot Treatment

Just the Good’s Description:

“After months of testing and many positive reviews, Just the Goods is pleased to finally launch a simple yet effective vegan acne spot treatment.

Combining the clean healing benefits of aloe vera with the antibacterial properties of astringent essential oils, this gel treats blemishes without overdrying skin in the way products filled with petroleum and alcohol are known to do.

To use, add a small dab/thin layer to affected area on freshly washed skin. Allow the gel to dry sightly before applying make-up, if desired. The gel may be re-applied as necessary.

Feel free to combine this product with Just the Good’s other facial care products for oily/combination and/or acne-prone skin, including face wash, toner, and moisturizer.

This product is handcrafted without the use of artificial preservatives. Please store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight for maximum longevity.

Ingredients:

aloe barbadensis (aloe) leaf gel, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil, pelargonium graveolens (geranium bourbon) essential oil, melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) oil, cymbopogon schoenanthus (lemongrass) essential oil.”

My Description & Thoughts:

This stuff is great!! I am happy that I’ve had this on hand through times of the month when my skin breaks out. Like with the wash, my only scrutiny of this spot treatment is that the essential oils are not organic. However, they are naturally derived, which is a good thing. In regards to effectiveness, I can see a noticeable different in my blemishes after applying this treatment a few times–my skin reduces in redness, puffiness, and irritation.

I recommend applying it a few times a day to problem spots, as well as right before going to sleep for optimum effectiveness. This is a product that is great to have in your beauty cabinet for skin “emergencies.”

lipscrubsmaller1-400x380

Vegan Lip Scrub

Just the Good’s Description:

“Beat the effects of dry weather with this gentle lip scrub available in a range of delicious flavours including: cinnamon, peppermint or orange essential oil, vanilla absolute, or unflavoured.

To use, place a small amount on your finger tip and rub gently onto your lips in a circular motion. Rinse off or, if you can’t help yourself, licking is okay, too 😉 Follow with lip balm if desired.

This preservative-free product lasts longer when exposure to the elements (i.e. air, humidity, sunlight) is kept to a minimum. Please store in a cool, dark place and keep tightly sealed between uses.

Ingredients:

sucrose (brown sugar), deodorized simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, vegetable glycerine + essential oil / absolutes where applicable.”

My Description & Thoughts:

This lip scrub tastes good enough to eat. I have not consumed it, but when applied to my lips, I want to lick it off! The brown sugar provides a fantastic grittiness for exfoliation but also makes this concoction amazingly tasty and sweet. Add in the vanilla and this lip scrub is seriously phenomenal stuff.

I recommend this to anyone and everyone–who doesn’t want to make their lips softer, healthier and scrumptious? As a gift, I see this product being perfect as well. I keep my jar in the shower and apply and rinse, making clean up simple.
