Holiday Immunity Boost GIVEAWAY with Amazing Grass!

Amazing Grass Immunity Boosters: GIVEAWAY!

During this time of year, isn’t it funny how even the healthiest of us may get the sniffles or feel a little under the weather at times? It’s frustrating to get sick. Luckily, there’s a whole lot in your hands as far as what you can do to prepare.

Enter: Amazing Grass.

This wonderful, quality-focused brand has been on my radar & blogging atmosphere for several years now–& for good reason. They produce organic, raw, nutrient-packed green superfoods that are pure, nourishing and very convenient to add to a shaker bottle or blend into a smoothie (just a few of the uses!).

The coolest thing about using these products to help boost that holiday (well, all-year round, really!) immunity is that they are so practical for everyday use. Just one serving a day can give you a sufficient boost to keep your nutrient intake high to fend off sickness & to avoid that winter fog that can come over too many instances of indulgence.

Most of these products are available to purchase in so many local health food stores and can also be found online. They make it really easy for you to reap the benefits.

Here’s a little run down on two of their biggest immunity-targeting blends:

Green SuperFood Tangerine Immunity Defense – consists of six potent ingredients, each individually known for having immunity support benefits, including Organic Proprietary Mushroom Blend, Organic Olive Leaf, Organic Elderberry, Organic Ginger Root, Organic Astragalus and Andrographis.

  • The Vitamin C comes from ascorbic acid and Acerola Cherry Extract. 1000mg of Vitamin C is the same amount found in one serving of Emergen-C. The Vitamin C level in Immunity Tangerine is also equivalent to the amount in approximately 40 whole tangerines.

Green SuperFood Alkalize & Detox – specifically designed to simultaneously help the body achieve ideal pH levels while ridding it of toxins to allow for optimal function and organ restoration.

  • Containing over 20 different alkalizing and detoxifying agents including beet root, parsley, turmeric and apple pectin, each ingredient in Alkalize & Detox is specifically formulated to alkalize by bringing the body to a more natural pH balance, while simultaneously detoxing by cleansing tissues of toxins and pollutants.

Looking for that supplement that can give you that extra pep in your step? Check out Amazing Grass. Here’s how you can find them:

My Thoughts:

Natural Dynamic (NDX) is a brand that reached out to be to try their energy products. At first glance, they seem like a neat, readymade source of energy to have on hand for perhaps some intense training streaks or just everyday life that requires a little extra boost.

I’ll be frank. I’m a REAL supplement snob. I have used what I believe to be the very best organic, raw, non-gmo, whole-food based supplements and I am familiar with what the ingredient lists look like on those products. You’ll see ingredients like “organic beet root powder” and “organic moringa powder.” That’s what I want to see in a product I’m going to keep coming back to. Ingredients that I recognize, that don’t sound scary and that I know my body will digest and assimilate.

That said, these products are better than many–just not quite up to par with where I’m at. I’m not saying they do not “perform” or do not help for the intended purpose (I found that I did experience a pretty good, sustained feeling of energy from the Endure DX and a added boost & replenishment during outdoor, sweaty workouts from the electrolyte chews), but I just demand super-duper-awesome ingredient lists for myself.

A positive about the energy chews is that I think the idea is stellar. I brought a few packs of these to help fuel my 12-year old volleyball team (they’re now national champs! #proudcoach) during a local tournament and all of them liked the way they taste. Needless to say, sometimes getting the youngins to like what they’re eating is a feat in itself. I just wish the ingredients were organic, whole-food based and recognizable.

I appreciate being able to try these products and will keep them on my horizon as I’m sure they will evolve and continue to improve their “formulations.”

Balanced Guru Organic Body Care Farm-A-Ceuticals Review

Balanced Guru Organic Body Care Farm-A-Ceuticals

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

It feels really good when I get the opportunity to meet the faces behind the beautiful products I try. At Expo West this year, I met two of the beautiful people behind Balanced Guru and let me tell you, the kindness and genuine enthusiasm that I perceived from working with them before (via e-mail & social media) was ever-present when I met them in person. You can tell that they are adamant and passionate about putting the very best ingredients into their products.

I’ve tried one of their products and reviewed it in the past, their scalp detox treatment; you can read that review here.

______________________________

My Thoughts:

Their body care line is so sublime, it really only requires a few words to accurately capture the gist of their brand. Here are the important things I’d like to point out about Balanced Guru:

  • Their ingredient lists are organic, top to bottom. No kidding. No messing around.
  • The products perform incredibly well because of that fact. Nature is healing.
  • You won’t find many other lines that are THIS clean & THIS pure.

Balanced Guru is one of the few body care brands that gets carte blanche from me. They could hand me any product, and as long as I know they’ve created it, I trust it. That’s because they have garnered such a great reputation with me for only using the best ingredients. They provided me with a handful of goodies at Expo to try (scrub, energy mists, hair oil) and I was amped. I’m excited to try anything that they make beautifully with their ingredient-conscious minds.

The energy mists I see as an uplifting, energizing alternative to junky perfumes (most perfumes don’t even list the ingredients on them–how scary is that?). I love closing my eyes and spraying it over my face and upper body before a workout. They lift my mood and help me stay fresh-smelling amidst the sweaty grind.

With all the grime that builds up on my skin after a week’s worth of challenging workouts, I really enjoy my time exfoliating because it leaves my skin feeling so fresh and rejuvenated. I try to limit my exfoliating to once a week because I do believe you can do it too much–there’s something to be said about leaving your skin alone sometimes. That said, when I do exfoliate, it’s so nice to be able to reach for a gritty scrub like this one that’s chock full of organic goodness like sugar, coffee and spearmint.

I have a semi-oily scalp but the ends of my hair tend to dry out with frequent shampoos. That’s where a pure hair oil comes in. All it takes is a tiny amount rubbed in between my hands and then through the ends of your tresses to give your hair a quenched look.

I urge you to check out their range of products–they make SO many excellent organic products and their purity is really impressive. Balanced Guru’s line also makes for great gifts!

Garden of Life Summit Rundown: Probiotics + Protein + Organic Farming

11265569_10105128153201759_8856359909073650562_n

The notion of possibly summarizing my entire weekend at the Garden of Life headquarters is an incredibly overwhelming task. There are SO many ideals that were brought to my attention, many that were even more cemented in my thinking, and a ton of new ideals that I’ve been inspired to ponder. To sum up my general emotion triggered by being a part of this summit, I left Palm Beach feeling:

Inspired. Driven. Hyped on supporting organic. Enthusiastic. Invigorated. Energized. Healthy.

I ate so much good (both good tasting and good for me!) foods while I was there, I truly did leave feeling superpowered. I drank my weight in local, green juice, ate a plentiful amount of locally-caught seafood and even dined at a farm-to-table restaurant.

In regards to the information, knowledge and inspiration that I acquired, here are the main take-aways that I grasped from this weekend that I am applying and taking into my everyday life.

Before I get into all of the details, I’ll just add that I am a FEELER. By that, I mean that I am largely influenced by how things make me feel–both as a result of the information I hear and how I feel when using a product. Thus, a lot of these tidbits from the summit really resonated with me, or I related strongly to because I have experienced the protein for myself. Scientific backup is great (many desire solely that), and Garden of Life has that to back up their products, but, I am an advocate for these products because I have witnessed first hand the impact that they have had on my health. I feel like the best version of Jesica when I am eating loads of organic, raw, plant based foods. This kind of supplementation is a gigantic part of that. I consider each of the Garden of Life products to be beyond “just a supplement,” because the quality is supreme and they are whole food-based, they are in a league of their own.

I have bolded some of my favorite parts!

1. “Probiotics” is not JUST a buzz word. Your body NEEDS them to function optimally.

-The standard American diet, pharmaceutical drugs, etc. have diminished our bodies’ good bacteria population in the gut. The effect on human health is profound.

-Supplementing the diet with probiotics is key is returning this good bacteria population back to a point where the digestive system can assimilate, absorb and process nutrients as it’s supposed to.

-“At Garden of Life, we are greens, we are probiotics. It’s who are are.” -Sherri Gunn, Garden of Life.

-“So much more can be done with health & prevention.” -Dawn Jarvis, Garden of Life.

-There are trillions of microbial organisms in your body. You help the good microbes thrive by eating a rich, whole food based diet that limits processed foods.

-A natural, whole food diet without pesticides, GMOs helps heal the gut.

-Good bacteria in the gut helps protect against the bad bacteria. So, we need the good bacteria.

-Digestive health is responsible for absorption of all of the food we eat, which contributes to our overall vitality. That’s why gut health is such a focus.

2. Supporting organic is, indeed, so very important.

-“I do this because it means a lot.” -Jeff Brams, Garden of Life

-Traceability, sourcing, transparency and sustainability are so important in acquiring raw materials  ingredients.

-Supporting organic, family farms drives economic change. “This is the mission.” – Jeff Brams, Garden of Life

-GoL elevates the success of villages in Africa by sourcing from them.

-Biodynamic farming is utilized and valued. You must farm the soil, not the plants. It’s about the “symphony of the soil.”

3. Protein. Why so important?

-Your entire body requires protein to maintain itself, rebuild, repair and build.

-Whole food supplements are faster and more effective because they are assimilated like real food.

-Protein helps build muscle–then muscle helps clean sugar out of your system.

-Protein lowers ghrelin, a hormone that stimulates hunger.

-Branch Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) don’t have to go thru the liver. They go straight to the muscle. This reduces lactic acid, aids recovery.

-Protein isolates are not the same as whole food based proteins because they cause the blood sugar to rise.

-“High quality protein has a satiating effect on the body.”-Jeff Brams, Garden of Life.

-“Protein is the original energy drink–it just provides energy through a different mechanism.” -Jeff Brams, Garden of Life

-Assaults to digestive tract causes inability to absorb protein (processed foods, pharmaceutical drugs, gluten, excess sugar, lack of good bacteria in the gut)

4. Tidbits on Garden of Life Proteins

Organic Plant Protein (OPP) created because of “grain free” demand, because customers want taste & texture. Contains more fermented ingredients (& nutrients due to superfood content), whereas GoL’s Raw Protein contains more sprouted. Fermented & sprouted ingredients are more easily digested than an unprepped seed.

-Unprepped seeds do not want to be digested. They want to be transported and deposited in a new home. Nature’s example: squirrels plant acorns, let them sprout and then eat them.

-Variety of proteins in one blend makes it work–gives you a complete amino acid chain.

Organic Plant Protein contains the superfoods baobab (acts as a prebiotic) & moringa (combats malnutrition).

Raw Meal has more protein & acts as a meal replacement, with significant amounts of fat, carbs and protein. Contains high nutrient content, thus less cravings and helps you feel fuller longer.

Raw Fit contains Fucothin (green coffee bean extract) which regulates and balances blood sugar.

-Adding power packed protein & superfood blends like these to your diet helps proliferate good microbes in your body.

5. Inflammation

-“The cornerstone of all disease is inflammation.” -Dawn Jarvis, Garden of Life

-Sugar encourages inflammation.

-Keep out artificial sweeteners that are causing oxidative stress.

6. Ingredients

-“We are fanatical about ingredients.” -Dawn Jarvis, Garden of Life

-14 strains of probiotics makeup GoL probiotics products

-Made cold, shipped cold

-Dawn Jarvis has an incredible resume with experience being a nutritionist for Wimbledon, yet one of my favorite quotes of her lecture is: “We use the organic stuff.”

-A little “did you know” from this weekend…”Flamingos are pink because of the large amount of antioxidants that they consume.”
